Who the hell is Rupert?  Apparently the guy that can take down my well equipped fighter in a couple rounds no problem, d'oh!  Another good character dead midgame.

I was just searching levels of the lair I already cleared before heading over the the Orcish Mines, and BLAM! I'll never mess with Rupert again, at least not without the ability to confuse him.  I guess I should have high tailed it out of there when I had a chance, sheesh.

Damnit, blurry eyes kept me from reading a scroll of blink at the right time.  I just lost my best equipped character yet.

Yeah, one of my best charecters way back when was a Xommite. Got down to the vaults. He's not as terrible as people make him out to be, but why make the game more random then it needs to be? :P

EDIT: Incidentally drkpaladin, I just killed a ghost of yours in the lair, was tossin mephetic clouds everywhere.

haha, its good to know someone ran into him, I didn't expect him to be a threat to anyone though lol.  I'm glad it was someone on bay12 that got the points for the kill though.

I think if you hit search near the hallways ending in the transluscent walls surrounding the temple it'll find doors in at least one of them.

That didn't even cross my mind, lol.

Oh well, I made it out and hit up the lair, killed some player ghost in there with a Xom summoned army in my favor, found the necronomicon and my lucky streak ended with a hydra chasing me down like a dog while I tried to escape with the loot.

I've never beat this game, so a speed run would be totally accidental.

I'm always extra dissapointed when it isn't Xom that kills me.

Edit: In hindsight, I wasn't totally completely unprepared for the Lair, but the venom-mage player ghost I ran into prompted me to use a scroll of tele, and between the activation and the teleport, Xom's army came to beat him down for me, (So a ghost kill for a player more powerful than me I was). and then proceeded to try and regroup on my position while leading the hydra to me.  So I guess in a way I can blame Xom, since he saved my char earlier that just evens the score.

For lulz I made a halfling enchanter and worshipped the first god I came across, Xom.  I planned on betraying him as soon as I got to the temple, except the temple in my dungeon is completely surrounded by translucent walls, therefore inaccessible, and any other altar I would want is similarly inaccessible.

Xom however, even though he made his usual couple attempts on my life, actually saved this char from death at one point, only my second time seeing that despite playing chaos knights about 500 times in a row (prior to this tourney).  I was doing well, I found three handaxes of returning and a poison dagger which I enchanted up.  I neglected my magic since the halfling proficiency is so low, but I found a few spellbooks which I might be able to use, including fulsome's distillation and evaporate and an amulet of clarity.  My character's skills are spread a little thin, a little more fighter than mage definately, but I managed to fight my way to the entrance of the lair on D9.  I figured I could take it nice and slow down there and make something my guy.

Unfortunately as I was making sure that D9 was clear, after storing my gear, I fell down a shaft to d11.  With some difficulty, I was able to take out a couple cyclopsi one at a time on the spot I fell down.  I was searching for the stairs up I saw one set guarded by a unique, I backed off since she didn't see me.  But then a group further north did see me, but it was in a narrow corridor.  Unfortunately Xom decided to holy smite my ass down to 1 HP, doing far less damage to the enemies around me while he was at it.  I started backing up, but the noise woke up the unique in the other room.  So with one HP with a hill giant in my face and a zombie something or other, I did the only thing I could, I popped down a scroll of fog, crossed my fingers, dodged the attacks, popped a scroll of fear to make at least one extra back off, then a scroll of tele and another dodge while moving in the  fog.  I stayed alive long enough for the tele to get off, popped up right in front a a centaur, who actually missed his shot (first time ever for a centaur), I popped another scroll of fog, moved away, he chases me through the fog, I throw some confuse spells at him, takes more than one since my spellcasting sucks pretty hardcore, I charge at him and rip him like a pillowcase.

Where I tele'd was cornered by giants on either side, and not far from the first group, I was forced to run away deeper into the dungeon.

So now I'm at the low end of character level 11, and on d12.  Damn, If I could make it to the surface, I think I'd just escape.

My plan to try and game points by getting the high score for wacky class/species combos that no one wants to try is working, albeit slowly, lol.

127
Bah, I should have lasted longer on that last one. Drew a hostile ugly thing card while fighting killer bee swarm.  I got too aggressive and overestimated how much damage I could take.  I let my vorpal dagger get to my head.  Stabbity Stabbity!!!  But it was fun to have a war between my pack of dogs and random summon cards and a swarm of bees on d8.

Whats the best defense against smite? Is it just mdef?

Edit: nevermind, I looked it up on the wiki, it says no defense against it

129
Dang, I've never gotten as far as getting a rune myself.  Is it best to focus on just one type of defense? EV, AC, or SV?  I was under the impression that they were all three sort of added together the way it was calculated.

I think I was on to something with my minotaur deathknight, I just threw a few characters away in frustration after sigmund wand of disintegrated me.

Xom granting you a kickass piece of equipment is usually followed up by him sending a demon army after you while you are healing.  He's sorta like an abusive spouse.

Hopefully my level 8 chaos knight on level 5 of the dungeon with his +4/+5 falchion of chaos will take someone out.  Couldn't find any armor for him though  ::)

133
Aw, got off to a good start with a dwarven chaos knight, Xom was happy that I found a wand of polymorph other, and changed sigmund into a spider and squashed him, then ixljb into a jelly and squished him, only to be cornered by three gnolls with halberds later on level two.  Unfortunately they just got polymorphed into killer bees and water moccassins while trying to run.

Sign me up please, I'll be plugging in that info

My player name will also me DrkPaladin

Just a question, I guess the Tiles version is not playable online for this tourney?

Edit: Ok, I registered an account through putty, and put in the name of the team 2 captain on my thing.  Then I registered again on the tiles link given below, so hopefully I didn't mess anything up.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: The DF2010 Little Questions Thread
« on: May 12, 2011, 02:26:24 am »
Got a question here.

How long should i let a generated world run while making it, i usually do 100-300 for the convenience, although on some "Lets play" videos people have their worlds in the thousands...

Any ideas?

I usually don't generate much past 100, or 200 if I'm playing around with it.  I haven't genned a world that long in a long time, as I tend to max out the number of megabeast and demon types, this causes worldgen population to barely keep up with death toll.  Genning too long leaves open the possibility of goblins/elves/humans/dwarves dying out.
