DF Gameplay Questions / Re: strange murder
« on: October 14, 2010, 06:10:57 am »
Extra points for you if you get a noble that used to work (and has those skills) and winds up claiming that they violated their own production order. And subsequently gets pwned by the hammerer. That is true justice: bringing unto yourself what you wish to be done to others.

.... I think I would die laughing if I saw this happen.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Bridges and FBs

Bwahahahaha! *Cackles Madly* Success! I trapped 4 FBs in the maze, and the goblin delivery system worked perfectly!

Yeah, double check that A) They arent in the military, and that noone in the military has that weapon reserved for their use, and
B) Use the in game interface to pause, toggle off Mining/Woodcutting/Hunting on them all. Unpause for a moment so thier stuff resets, then pause and re-enable only the labor you want them to do. That *should* do it, it does sound like you've done everything else right, so its probably a DwarfTherapist interaction. I get cancelation spam from my hunters because of it sometimes when im not paying attention to who im assigning a job to.

Ok, thanks; I wasnt really sure. The wiki said they acted like walls, but the Phoebus tileset shows a tree icon when raised, and it says 'Raised Bridge' instead of 'Wall', so I wanted to doublecheck.

*Crosses Fingers* Here we go!

DF Gameplay Questions / Bridges and FBs
« on: October 14, 2010, 04:24:22 am »
Can FBs destroy raised bridges? I'm about to activate my megaproject - a complex labyrinth with 5 FBs plus traps to drop baddies into from above. I want to make sure my trapping method isnt gonna be hosed.

Unfortunately, I dont really have the option of stopping my butchering, as its whats keeping my animal population down. Despite killing every newborn ever birthed in my fort, every wave of migrants has shown up with about 8 pets each. Im up to about wave 9 now.

DF Gameplay Questions / Dealing With Useless Refuse (Cartilage, Tissue)
« on: October 14, 2010, 03:58:24 am »
Whats an easy way to get rid of all the useless stuff produced by butchering and rotting corpses? I've got HUGE refuse piles, and even though I've set the refuse orders to dump other items, they still shove all the cartilage, hair, and nervous tissue stuff in the refuse pile. Is there a good way to deal with this beyond manually telling them to dump each one into magma or something?

Dear Urist McPossessedChild,

Really now, the subject matter of your latest project, entitled 'The Secretive Culmination', is just inappropriate for a child your age. I mean really, creating masterpiece artworks that are 'relating to the foundation of the Beguiler of Souls by The Enjoyable Bodices of The Long Mine'?

What would your mother think?

DF General Discussion / Re: When did FBs become wild animals?

It *would* be pretty hilarious to suddenly encounter.

I'm actually concerned something like this is about to happen to my fort - I've got about 5 FBs lurking in the caves (I breached them, but never dug stairs down into it), and I'm about to try and trap several in a labyrinth to throw gobbos into. If I screw it up, I'm gonna get hit with a bunch at once.

Well, theres a safe, more complicated method that I thought of - namely, building a retractable bridge room over an open space, with a place to put a cage at the far end. Make the cage and bridge operated by two seperate levels. Open the cage, and when the baddie walks into the room, pull the second switch and drop him in.

I was just hoping someone might have a better suggestion.

I dont think you can build on hatches. I thought they counted as buildings, like doors?

I want to know how to build something that will drop a caged goblin on z level below.

I'm building a Labyrinth to lure several Forgotten Beasts into, and then I want to drop goblins in there and see what happens :D
But I don't know how to rig something that will quickly and safely transport and then drop a goblin into it from above.

Ahh ok; I forgot that sometimes dwarves have animal types they dislike. I've got a worm somewhere (dunno how i caught it), that was probably it.

I saw a strange thought on one of mu dwarves. His said "He saw something unpleasant in a cage recently"

Thats one I've never seen before, and I thought 'zoos' were harmless. What caused it?
