Have you tried dropping him into a Fire Imp turret?

If you get it right, put that in a closed room and drop elves in. Fun times ensue.

IDE/Theory: Jack tries to kill horrorterrors, fails.
IDE/Theory: Jack works for Lord English.
Okay, MY theory fails. But, still. Lord English versus the horrorterrors, I see it happening.

If your miners are less than legendary, it's going to take a while.
That, is why I'm accepting all the migrants I can, and giving them mining.
..Then hacking them with runesmith, to get the job done that little bit faster.

On a related note, does anyone know the fastest rendering mode for a low Graphics system? I get the feeling I can push it above 20 (10) fps. (Yeah, that's marginally faster than it was before.)

Are you sure it won't be destroyed like a floor?
I'm hoping that it works like that, personally.

Unfortunately though, even running this on my server (the /currently/ fastest working computer in the house), using DFTerm 2 etc, I'm suffering a horrible FPS death here. It's running currently at 12 (7).
I'm hoping it should speed up as the mountain becomes less and less. Hehe.

But, I can't help but get the feeling we're being watched... This embark is creeping me out.

I think that's an Elven Facepalm.

Also, the software rendering is SO slow, I really can't describe it. That post wasn't half an hour late for no reason, it really did take that long.
I'm playing with the idea of having a combined rendering system, though even to me it sounds hideously complex, but I'm just wishing for a faster system I guess.

It may be slow, but at least it should work. That's the important bit.

..Whoa, slow was an understatement. Anyhow, despite it's complete obscurity there...
Personally, I'd probably run the screenshot in segments, so that you can save it to a buffer (AKA: Temporary) file, while it saves. Should go easier on both RAM and Video RAM, and make it possible for even the oldest Video cards to save screenshots.

But it looks like I finally have that one screenshot. Just another two more to go.

Dunno if this goes here or not, but, I'm having trouble taking full fortress screenshots...
I press CTRL+F5, it comes up with the message "Saving Large Screenshot..." which promptly dissapears (way before it should do.), leaving me without a massive screenshot of everything in the world.
It used to work on my faster computer, but then I was using version 2.1 on that. Then the computer broke - so I no longer have 2.1 to test to see if it's just this version.

Anyone got any ideas on this?

Actually, seeing these two posts may well have given me an answer.
I'm going to backup the save the long way around here, but once that's done, I'll asign the whole mountain to be stairs, then dig out the bottom layer. Then using one support on the bottom, I'll collapse the whole thing.

Theoretically, since the walls will have been dug out, that should mean that they'll collapse with the bottom floor. If that doesn't work, it's back to square one!

I'll update this thread tomorrow with the results.

PS: I'll try getting some good before / after shots of it in Stonesense.

i still never really dig that far down.
Neither do I really.
Try embarking with no caverns. Plenty of !!FUN!! ensues when you've got the magma sea just a few layers under your feet.

DF Gameplay Questions / 60 Z Levels, and not much patience!
« on: November 09, 2010, 09:45:11 pm »
Okay guys. I'm in something of a rush because I've found an interesting embark, and I want to get around to some interesting architecture.
Long story short (seeing as I'm in a hurry here):
There's a mountain on this embark. It's 60z-levels high, and I don't think it touches the edge of the map.
What's the fastest way to get rid of it? I'll take !!SCIENTIFIC!! answers, but speed would be appreciated too.

Clarification. Are we talking people who murder babies, or are we suggesting an increase in Lil' Murderin' Axe manufacturing?
If there's anything the world needs more of, it's Lil' Murderin' Axe toys!

Does that make elven arrows some kind of sprouts, with fresh, sometimes even living, flesh being the only place fit for them to put down their roots?
You mean like, they embed roots on contact, to establish a tree later, even if the arrow is removed?
That'd be like the Aliens from Alien, only.. In tree form.

Put them in a stockpile. And lock it.

I hear coins rolling around fortresses are bad for stockpiles.

Elves don't like to harm the earth, that includes cutting into it.
Besides, have you never broken a branch from a tree? You'd be supprised just how much wood you can get without killing trees you know.

I'd be worried.
...
If only because I wouldn't be listening to the Homestuck albums instead.

Also, I think Bro has set this whole thing up. He's given Jack his sword. He's now off to get himself SORD... Or maybe his own baddass copy.
