Dresses cover the body like a ninja suit. Try those woven from bluemetal thread.

since robes are now crafteable again those just do fine too and are coherent with the layer  armor :)

Danger rooms are now dangerous, better to build an arena for your dwarves to fight unarmed prisoners.

i call bull on that ... if you armor the guys just normal theres no more danger than before .. had in fact fewer  injuries than before (having even raised spears from 1 to 6 per trap-tile).. before being mainly those toe and finger stabs ... just dont overdo it with menacing spikes instead of training spears and have the guys wear at least one coherent layer of leather armor (robe/mitten/hood/socks/cap)

to hijack this thread .. is there a good way to produce tropic areas rather then temperates?

i experimented with rainfall/temperature/drainage (all mid high levels) and limit elevations /minimum tile prefs but i allways end up with temperates to tropical variance of like 4:1 where temperate biomes eat up many volcanoes ... but at least allmost only those 2 major biomes
anyone got a specific clue about it?

that applies to all herd animals ... or pack animals .. i had it with wolves and gorillas too .. they seem to avoid the traps by narrow for ages .. but the second  one of them gets caught they all cluster around .. so any trap clusters get filled fast and repeatedly ... this game i just got first year nothing (ok i aimed for alligators but they avoided the traps .. and the first month of the second year i got like 15 gorillas and about 10 elefants just from 6 traps .. they seem to run away when you exchange traps then they return to join their friends :)

is there any way to clear cages of food after taming creatures without having to destroy the cages? got a big wave of gorillas and elefants  and now i got many empty cages with seeds in them :/

nevermind .. a mass dumping session via d-b-d did the trick .. even with many of them not at the first time strangely ..

could there be a hidden parameter for certain biome wildlife occurence or such or is it just kinda light broken

by example .. i usually play in tropical river biomes  cause i once want to catch hippos ... the catch is even in the most longliving forts of 10+ years ...
i always have hippos at the start .. i even can entrap their area despite my dwarfs having fear but after about 6 months they wander of .. instead ...
ELEFANTS... nothing against elefants they are big heavy fighters and give a good meat  + they tend to breed like cats after you got 10 in your fort ...

but nothing else is coming then ... ok occassional a leopard cougar or tiger roams the area .. even gets caught but this is rather seldom .. never hippos again ... ever

do i have to build something specific or sacrifice something or kill off the other river animals(mostly carps or tigerfishes) to get them spawning?

and to the elefants .. its like they are breeding faster than i can catch them .. my record was in my last game with about 20 of em in my first half year .. (if you count 1 month to get traps rdy to those 6 months)

someone able to enlighten me?

short again... what to do to summon hippos back after their initial spawn .. and why only elefants /or sometimes warthogs, ... i thought tropical jungles are supposed to be a meltingpot of wildlife

i usually start out with the main area with just a minimal entrance ...

laying down the farm first one level below so i can channel half of the roof for making it viable for outside crops ..(usually 3*3 squares times 8 for outdoor and indoor plants each) then i design the basic dinnerroom and the food storage that untill all is done will be wood storage+crafting+ stockpile area ...

outside woodcutting the whole area and start collecting plants while the digg only miner work

when farm channel is finished i dig out a channel above the underground section for later irrigation .. roof the channeled part and start planting outside stuff...

when thats done i find a good spot for a well and digg down to riverlevel or straight to cavern/aquifer to setup well asap

depending on area and soil the whole project is done until end of summer record was 3rd month of spring


when all the above is done its time to set up an early dorm with 4 beds somewhere ..start the irigation and setup the main entrance/walloff the makeshift small one .. then step by step dinner area forge area and living quarters are to be set up ..multileveled most time

early cagetraps in the main tunnel + outside area to catch animals and early invaders .. rest then is going depending on ore findings and or abushes .. on high enemy games with fortress defense a large wall-in is due  untill first winter ends

Woodcutters don't care if there is any wood stockpile space. They will clear cut the map if you designate the map for cutting--- so long as they have the woodcutting labor turned on/enabled, have an axe, can reach all the trees, and they don't get sidetracked with other work, like hauling stone to the dump activity area or hauling items to take to the trade depot.
that is correct ...as long they dont have wood hauling enabled .. that causes them to do nothing if there's no space .. just check it ingame .. you will be surprised
