For the burrow + custom stockpile method, define a burrow that contains a dwarf, a food pile which allows only booze and the raw plant desired, and a still.

Assign the dwarf to the burrow. Ensure the still and the stockpile are set to obey burrow restrictions.  Turn on "brew drink /R".

No need for burrows anymore. You can order the stockpile to give to a workshop. If a workshop has assigned stockpiles, it will only take from those.

You have to keep your dwarves from collecting the eggs.  Once the eggs get picked up they never hatch.

Best bet is to make a pasture inside a room, throw your birds into the pasture, add a nest box, then lock the door for a year or so.

Alternately, you can set the maturation age lower so babies turn into kids and kids into adults much quicker.

did you change the save raws? or the general raws?

To be clear, there's a separate raw folder in the save folder.  Changes to that set of raws change that save.

I've got a vampire ghost running around my fort that I can't memorialize.

Only eats one or two people per year, but it does get a little annoying sometimes.

FBs were dangerous because of (1) non-organic materials, (2) syndrome-inducing contaminants. Toady nerfed both due to whining on forums, so yeah, they are weak now.

I got a bronze web spitter (seriously, it was like a machine gun) that chewed up one of my forts pretty bad.  I'd gotten overconfident in my military and didn't have any !!FUN!! traps ready.  By the time I realized how screwed I was and tried to wall off, it was too late.

Scrolling through hundreds of names without a search or filter feature can drive you crazy, Toady needs to change that somehow. And that you can engrave memorials for pets, invaders and traders, too, is quite cool but it makes that list even longer.


Yeah, I'd really, really like to see a text filter like the one at the depot.

Actually, this system sounds like a good fit for when/if syndrome cures make it into the game.

So fortress/civ medical knowledge would be the difference between
"That's just Urist's Bone Rot, I've got a tonic for it back in the workshop" vs "Oh Merciful Armok!  Why did his arm just fall off?"

My Dwarf cap is 80, I get all the stuff you seek, megabeasts, snatchers, sieges and skeletal yaks. Though my megalomania means my fort is a bit too big for this population, but it improves FPS and i don't have that much use of the dwarves.
How does having a massive fortress with more space for pathfinding HELP fps?!

I think he means that having fewer dwarves helps the fps, but his preference for large forts means that it's way larger than the population requires.

I could be wrong, though.

I'm not sure if I've already thanked you these past 60 pages, but if I haven't it's long past time.

This is easily my favorite DF mod, and I find that its changes make things a lot more varied and interesting.

I recall a long time ago that you could just do the same by carving a fortification - but I read that they let monsters through now. Are any of the new magma critters building destroyers?

Any source on that?  I had a fortification covering my magma inlet in .31.21 and nothing got through.  Could have been luck, though.

Also, critters can still spawn from magma even with fortifications or grates.

Actually a shield is probably the best, or a dress since sit covers everything i think?

I'm told that shield material only matters when you're hitting things with the shield, it doesn't change block chance.

Designate them for dumping, and make sure you have a dump set up somewhere.

Edit:  And even as I ask this, I notice that there's an xml export option in the game.  I'm looking at the dumped file now.

I am not one to constrain the artistic freedoms of dwarves in my care.  To the contrary, I feel that I've gone out of my way to accommodate the often bizarre material requests made by our crafters.  That said, I need to emphasize that adamantine is a very constrained resource right now.  And no matter how attractive or expensive you make it, a bracelet is absolutely not an appropriate use of our limited supplies.
