DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Speeding up adventure mode

I just got back into adventure mode recently (after only doing fortress mode for a while), and I'm having some really bad performance problems.  At the moment, it takes nearly 1.5 seconds to update the screen for each move while visiting an abandoned fortress.  Fortress mode never really gave me any performance problems.

Is there something I'm missing here to speed things up, or is adventure mode really that much slower than fortress mode?

I am wondering whether there is a way to store ballista arrows somewhere other than in the seige workshops.  I have several weapon racks set to store them, but they never get moved there.  Is there some way to do this that I am missing, or is this currently bugged?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Unusual pets

Out of curiosity, will dwarves ever actually buy any of the tamed animals you catch?  I have a bunch sitting around that are marked for sale, but no one seems interested.  I have around 160 dwarves, you'd think there would be at least one taker.

DF Gameplay Questions / Demon Fires?

So, I finally dug to the pits, and I was pretty well prepared for the initial engagement.  I lost a couple military dwarves, but I killed all the demons.  At this point, I had somewhere between 120 and 150 dwarves left.  After that, though, I noticed that there was smoke spreading all over the place, and dwarves were dropping dead left and right.  No buildings have been overturned, so I'm pretty sure that it wasn't a demon escaping into the main fort or something.   The best guess I can make is that it must be some sort of fire.  Does anyone have any idea what is causing this and how to contain it?

When I was trading today, I noticed that some items showed up as purple.  I've never seen this before, and I'm wondering what the significance of that color is for these items.

DF Suggestions / Differentiate between used and unused items

In the stocks menu, it would be real useful to have a way of seeing how many unused items there are of every type, so that I know whether I need to produce more.  It would be nice to have a way to switch between viewing all items, unused items, and used items.

DF Suggestions / More forcefull go inside command

Durring seiges, I'm having a hard time getting my dwarves to go inside, even with dwarves stay inside turned on.  It would be really appreciated if there was some sort of command that would temporarily send all the dwarves inside.  

The best way I can think of is to have all outside dwarves head immediately to their rooms, that way you can be sure that they will make it past whatever you have set up at the entrance.  Perhaps then they would wait for a minute or so in their rooms, that way they wouldn't be tempted to come outside.  As it stands, sieges are costing lives that really don't need to be lost.

DF Suggestions / Dealing with foreign items

I'd really like to see some sort of good way to deal with items left behind by sieges and intruders.  Right now, I'm getting swamped under all the items left behind by goblins and having to go searching through stockpiles to chasm them.

Perhaps a good solution would be to have an auto chasm/melt option for any items that can't actually be used by the dwarves.

Apologies is this has been discussed before.  I didn't find it when searching.

Anyways, it would be nice if we had an easy way of knowing how much immediately edible food we have.  At the moment (as far as I know) prepared food is counted under other food along with inedible foods such as seeds.  I think that it would be really useful if there was a quick way to tell how much food my dwarves actually have to eat at any given moment.

It would be nice to be able to choose which furniture to encrust.  As it stands, we're kind of rolling the dice and hoping that what we want is encrusted.  One easy way to do this, I think, would be to allow us to encrust existing furniture after it has been placed.

After creating an order for copper bars in the manager window, it seems that all of my furnaces have bar orders in them.  Even the wood furnaces and kilns.

DF General Discussion / Dwarves not using bedrooms

For some reason, new immigrants seem to have stopped taking bedrooms.  I have quite a few unowned bedrooms, but the dwarves keep sleeping on the barracks floor.  Am I doing something wrong here?
