DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Danger Room Advanced Questions.
« on: November 20, 2010, 08:27:18 pm »
I have a few questions about more advanced danger room training questions. I am playing a map generated by another player so I don't know if any of the raws have been messed with.

Using Therapist to watch the progress of my military skills and all my fighters quickly made legendary fighters and are quickly becoming legendary shield users. Once these are reached what should I do next?

I have started removing shields from the maxed fighters, I am guessing they use other skills more quickly then by my observations... My two hammerdwarves became hammerlords very quickly after doing so, while the other fighters are experiencing slower weapon gains.

Almost all my military has poor dodging and striking. How can I increase it?

Thanks.

Dear McLeverPuller

I asked you to pull the lever again and again till I told you to stop. Not to pull the lever once and then take a break. Since you were a long way away from the action you failed to notice that Mr McMiner opened a new breach in the caverns to let in the collection of forgotten beasts that were building up. To meet said beasties was a hallway filled with many steel spikes attached to the lever you were pulling. Now instead of said beasts being turned in to hamburger, they walked past a well designed hallway. Luckily my military backup of 30 well trained dwarves cut the first two to bits pretty easy. It was the last critter that breathed deadly dust. After he was dispatched 27 out of the 30 fine soldiers melted quickly. Three remain in a state of good that is something like a plump helmet. A lot of dogs melted too. Everyone is very unhappy about this. If only I remembered your name.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Problems with garbage dumps
« on: November 19, 2010, 11:01:25 am »
You have to set refuse to be gathered outside (o) (r) I think.

I only use one dump at a time to stockpile stuff, too much accidental dumping the logs in the magma thing... You would probably do it with burrows and turning off refuse hauling on most dwarves, but that sounds like too much work.

I'm playing a map I downloaded off the forums that this is occuring on. Goblins show up with humans that are enemies to them, it reveals the ambush, the human get murdered, then my guys want to go pick up the dead body. Since it's someone else's map I have no idea if they pissed with the raws.

Dear Gem Setter,
You know, I was kinda hoping you were going to pimp out the new iron armour a little. Not sure why you didn't, I mean, the metalsmith's forge is closer than the wagon you got the rope from. I mean, I suppose we could sell it to the traders, but... I mean, how does one even encrust a rope? How does that even work? You know what, it's fine, it's my fault for assuming one of you morons would take the very undwarfy option of using logic.

Signed,
Your Tired Overseer,

PS putting menacing spikes on a splint is a fantastic idea.

At least you can build the rope in to a well..

I'm still trying to figure out what I'm going to do with this adamantine thong : /

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: An aquifer is flooding my base.
« on: November 18, 2010, 11:11:12 am »
Another option to do something with the water is dig a separate tunnel to the edge of the map starting close to the source of the flood as possible (don't tap the water yet), but not in the aquifer. At the edge of the map smooth the stone and carve a fortification in to it. Then cut in to the flooded part of the fort. This will give a place for the water to drain, and will slow the flood of the fortress. If you can do this from a z-level below the flooded area and ramp in to it, it will drain pretty quick. Just remember to give yourself enough room to fix the leak too.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Adamantine clothing
« on: November 17, 2010, 03:35:46 pm »
Yes, Adamantine robes are the best under protection you can get.

Also it trades for an insane amount. I have a legendary weaver currently, so I'm making a stack of masterwork adam' cloth. Hoping I get a Legendary clothier soon. Masterwork cloths with masterwork cloth are insanely expensive.

I make mostly wooden cages, they burn nicely in magma.

Can dwarves make artifact adamantine clothing? I thought moody dwarves only took plant cloth and spider silk.

Yes, they can make adamantine clothes. I have a 1.2Mil credit thong that some moody weaver used 6 or so pieces on. At least now he makes masterwork cloth at the loom which makes for some awesomely expensive robes.

If you can find something like a cave blob they should be able to hammer that indefinitely.

Oh god no, the children and dogs are still covered with blisters from those bastards.

I'd suggest something non poisonous.

check out the dfhack thread in the modding forum. At the end of the thread there is enough of a work around to get some of the tools working.

Anyone have a quick answer on how I'd get out of this river I'm swimming in? I've crossed them before, but this time I can't seem to get out.

Build cage traps, catch them, then tame them at a kennel. Never had them attack me, but I'll get a ton of job cancellation spam from them.
