Y'just need iron ore and fuel to make iron. We've got a vein of bituminous coal and a couple of hematite lying around. Not hard.

Well, barons are appointed from within the fort, they don't immigrate. The Queen, though, I'm not sure.

Yeah, it's on page 1. To repeat:

-Build us some defenses.
-20 cages
-30 mechanisms
-50 iron bars
-A squad of 5 dwarves
-A danger room for them
-100 bags.
-300 booze
-500 prepared meals (use easy meals, trade them. Buy stuff from the elves, humans and dwarves.)
-Get some real bedrooms, one for each dwarf/couple, made.
I don't actually give a damn whether you make all this stuff or buy some of it, because you'll never be able to buy all the stuff you need for a quota.

Over a year it shouldn't be that hard. I hope. You always get a good migration in the second spring and usually another one that fall or winter, you'll have lots of spare labor.

I'm trying to look into a design that's interestingly made, but efficient. Anybody have any pointers?

Still no Antisthenes...if he hasn't responded by the end of tomorrow, let's skip him and go right on to Deviled's turn.

They won't. Crutches are bugged; a dwarf without a leg will just tax your water supply and food stockpiles until he dies.

I mean, I think the offspring of tame animals are also tame, and tame animals don't hurt dwarves.

OK, done. The dwarves are in the process of digging out a chamber across from the gulag. We could use it as either a dining room or a meeting area. I haven't hit the caverns yet, by the way.

Here it is:

I've just about wrapped up, only a month to go.

Antisthenes, your quota is:
-Build us some defenses.
-20 cages
-30 mechanisms
-50 iron bars
-A squad of 5 dwarves
-A danger room for them
-100 bags.
-300 booze
-500 prepared meals (use easy meals, trade them. Buy stuff from the elves, humans and dwarves.)
-Get some real bedrooms, one for each dwarf/couple, made.
I don't actually give a damn whether you make all this stuff or buy some of it, because you'll never be able to buy all the stuff you need for a quota.

Over a year, it shouldn't be that hard. If this sounds impossible, let me know.

12th Malachite, and I can see why capitalism works is so good at exploiting the proletariat...division of labor. Can't wait for more migrants.

But we won't cave into capitalism!
1st Galena: Here they are! We've got a...well, actually, who the fuck cares what we have? This is Equalworkers. One's a talented cook, which is good for when we're making meals, but he will be treated the same as everyone else. They double our population.

We do get an adequate record keeper. He's gonna become the manager and book-keeper, and, since he's doing all the central planning, will therefore will be exempt from all real work. He will also get a cool bedroom when we get around to it. We've also gotten some tables and chairs for our dining room.

16th Limestone: Things are going well- we're swimming in food. I'll leave somebody else to deal with the bedrooms, so I'll make the gulag. The gulag consists of a small communal dormitory, a food stockpile, and as many pumps as there are prisoners. When I'm finished, there will be 6 pumps (pumping air), but you'll need to add more later. DO NOT ADD WATER FOR THE SCREW PUMPS. WE WANT SLOW FUN FOR THE ENEMIES OF EQUALWORKERS.

You will only be allowed to dump plump helmets and dwarven wine down into the gulag, by the way, so make sure you're not cooking all your plump helmets. We want enemies of Equalworkers to be miserable and die very slowly.

4th Sandstone: 2 more migrants, including a competent record keeper, so we can have a seperate manager and book-keeper. The gulag is coming along well. Our population is now 16.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Here's the gulag. 6 screw pumps, communal dorm, and a food stockpile that accepts only plump helmets and dwarven wine. There's a garbage dump at the top to dump in food; lock the door, or use burrows.

It's mid-autumn now, the river is frozen and I'm damming it with a wall made out of ice. Right now the dam just gives a passageway to the other side of the river, but any comrade who feels up to it should certainly make a trap to kill capitalist goblins. I myself propose that we make a tree farm on that side of the river.

11th Timber, and here's the capitalist pigs come to trade with us for the glorious productions of communism. We trade them our delicious food for some leather, booze and more food. And an extra pick, since one of 'em was taken by a damn raccoon. During the long winter, I'm assigning people to leatherworking. We need some bags made to hold the flour that I'm currently starting to mill.

Also, in Soviet Russia, people did "own" apartments, although they might be traded at a whim- shall we give dwarves their own rooms? Or just use a communal dormitory?

For the time being (NEP year), I'm going to say they get their own rooms.

Anybody have a good idea as to how we might do collectivised farming?
