No worries. I'm a bit busy though so the update won't come right away.

@Tiruin (main thread): If you didn't call out the bonus in your character sheet I might miss it, but you did so thanks for that.

@Everyone I'm going on vacation for the weekend (starting tomorrow) so I can't guarantee updates. Updating RT on my laptop is hell. T_T

Actually my schedule's changed for the next week. It's going to be hard for me to update Rogue Trader due to all the lookup required.

You enter a room filled with pink cushions and extravagant arrangements of flowers. The flowers seem to be placed inside vases shaped like the warmachines of the past room. The bed is also tremendous, far too large for a single person, but there is only one nightstand next to the bed. The closets are open, showing racks of women's attire.

The next room over is dank and filled with the old smell of flavored biscuits. You turn on the light to reveal a quarters filled with paintings on the wall, paintings of rabble with instruments. The desk is coated in a dusting of bread crumbs, but the papers on it show red marks at the top:

I/V
III/V
II/V

And the name written: Gai.

You sit down on the creaking chair and dust off a textbook. Social Upheavals in the Century XXI

Nagisa inspects her wound, to find a small hole in her blouse and a dark bruise where the attack hit. But somehow no blood was drawn. It is as if an ant punched her with the strength of a man and knocked her to the floor.

Regardless of the outcome, your current situation is much less dire. The beast-cart has driven away, leaving the two of you to recuperate. The door was left open, and white lamplight hanging from the roof edge casts an inverse shadow at the threshold of the door.

The site is bruised and it tore your clothes... but somehow the bullet seemed to have only bruised. It was a very small bullet, nothing like the gunpowder weapons of your era. But very clearly the murderers intended to kill... this doesn't add up.

Clearly you are not mechanized in any way, shape or form, given the lack of buzzing gears and pulleys and the slow ticking of clocksprings. Unless... the thought crosses your mind that this era's technologies may have advanced to the point where machines could be made in human likeness. But that seems ridiculous on its face. What would they do, tear the flesh off of corpses and mount it to a frame?

The book recounts a sordid tale:

"It was the winter of '42,' and the resulting weather hit the surrounding provinces especially hard, turning a difficult situation into a dire one. The partisans were better off than the surrounding populace, receiving supplies and winter clothing from the British navy.

As for the others, I distinctly recall a scene where my companion Ryzard was outside in the snow, teaching Polish children how to properly dress hunted game. He introduced them to the various organs one-by-one as he removed them. Then he hung up the body and showed them how to remove the intestines with a knife.
I had a feeling those techniques he taught them would turn out to be useful, but not in the intended fashion..."

You hardly know the location on the card, so a map would be nice, yes.

On your short walk to the general store, you pass by a sign illuminated by a torch inside. It's a little involved... ((map is an example only)) but you can make sense of the names, and there's a little buoyantly-drawn starburst marked "You are here!" next to the words "Tachibana Ave."

After a long while of staring at the sign and searching through the labels on the sign, you deduce two things:
1) You are very good with this new reading ability of yours
2) This city is enormous

It may take a while to find an address on this sign. If you spend too long, the castle guard may stumble upon you and arrest you. If only you could somehow copy it down quickly... you feel like there must be a way.

You walk into the first bedroom you find and discover a desk and cabinets stacked with figurines and miniature models of carts and battlewagons covered in armor, and mysterious birds you've never seen before, with wings straight as swords and perched on black stands.
Clearly this room's owner must have been a patron of the arts!

There's a bed on the floor, and two sliding closets hide a couple of identical black-and-green uniforms along with contemporary clothing.

The room contains a desk with some papers, and they are labelled 'Onotoyama Rico' at the top. They seem to cover various topics including mathematics, art, and political classics.

The men hang out in the house for some time, but they don't notice your curled-up body hiding past a cabinet, and neither of them find a reason to search the house.
Eventually, one of them stops at Nagisa's corpse, and then...

"Hey, look at this...

...she's not bleeding."

"Oh?" the other man grunts, skeptical, but curious.
Suddenly his demeanor changes.

"God, she must be a machine! Run!"

The two men promptly vacate the premises.

The other man, at first walking up puzzled, breaks off into a run. "She must be a machine! Run!"

Outside, next to the machine, you hear a third voice ask: "Hey, what's the matter?"
--as the two men hop into the front of the truck and roar off with the third struggling to hang on to the back of the mighty vehicle.

You take a walk through the rainy streets, strategically passing under awnings. People look at you funny, your striped woolen jacket not appearing to blend in well. But it has pockets on the front which makes it highly convenient. And somehow it stays shut without buttons or buckles. You leave the hood on to keep your hair dry.

You arrive at a very tall building. Your body's former proprietor may have belonged to some member of the aristocracy, judging by the tremendous display of wealth. Alternatively this may be mass housing for the plebeians, and this seems like perhaps the more likely circumstance given the long hallways, closely-spaced rooms, and finally the small size of your own quarters--.

"You're back!" a familiar voice squawks at you. "Did you bring Rico with you or..." she leans past a dividing wall to check. There is no need to answer.
"You should buy an umbrella," she quips as your attire sheds a surprising amount of water onto the door rug.

This quarters doesn't seem too bad. There is a stove and a counter built into one side of the main room, the other having a couple of leather chairs and the wall seems to be a large version of the glass tablet you had.
The bedrooms are accessible from the hall, which curves around two of them in order to fit a third in. There is also a bathroom at the end of the hall.

Ozarck (Di/Hamada) (4Df 3Pw 7Pc 2Wt)

You hear several loud bangs, like piercing cracks of thunder, bellowing deep like drums and yet leaving a shrill ringing in your ears. A chill runs down your spine as you ponder the consequences.

There's the faint muffled sound of a body crumpling to the ground. You might realize who it is. Two sets of footsteps begin walking through the house, talking to each other.

You walk outside to greet the driver, when suddenly you feel a crunching pain in your chest, and your legs give out. Hm.
A gun? It sure sounded like one, but there's no way someone could have readied it to fire without you noticing. You'd turn around to see if it came from behind, but your body feels weak, and you fall to the ground.

You remain fully conscious as two men exit the car and approach your still body on the ground.
"Aren't you glad you put your faith in that silencer?" says the first.
"What if she screamed, though?" says the second.
"What if she did?"
"Can't scream louder than a .45. Anyway, we have a few minutes to move the body and make it look like an accident."

Moments later, "What's that awful smell? Ammonia?" the second asked.

It doesn't seem like you are dead yet. It doesn't feel quite like... last time.

"Cooking accident, maybe?" said the first absentmindedly, starting the stove.
"Hey come look at this."

The two men are meters away from your head, standing around the bucket.
"Looks like she didn't plan on living past tonight anyway," said the second.

The pain in your chest still aches, but you don't seem weak anymore. Still probably best to keep still as long as they're in the room.

"Break the lid off that rice cooker and fill it up, and... I'll make this look like a spill. Then take the body."

The various icons seem to have pictographic meanings attached to them, the first of which being a red envelope containing a blank sheet of parchment. The second is a colored swirl with three parts, red, green, and yellow, with a blue circle in the center. The third is a circle with six squares inside, the fourth is a card with the number '31' on it, and the fifth is a silver rectangle with a black shutter in the center.

Tapping the first with your finger, you bring up a collection of notes, each with a sender, perhaps a system of writing letters. You read the first one:

"Bad news, I asked Shirou-sama how the call went, and he said we're not allowed to put an AI on the control board. Apparently they're putting in a couple of new regulations at the last minute since a lot of people put open source software on their robots during last year's comp.

-Masa"

The second icon seems to show a map. It's a map that you can scroll around by dragging your finger. There are the names of all sorts of cities that you can't understand.

You walk across the room to grab an umbrella and pass through the entry door. It's not a typical door, but rather a strange cross-shaped paddle made of glass which spins as you walk through it.

Outside, you walk in the opposite direction of the strange performers and their colorful truck, only to find more colorful vehicles, these ones black and white with similar red flashing torches mounted on top. Guards dressed in blue recline inside, and a couple of them glance your way, but you try to avoid eye contact as that seems suspicious.
[Stealth passed] As you make your way past the bulk of their forces, you notice a familiar woman in red speaking to some guards. They don't notice you.

"He was last sighted on top of the building," you hear one guard say.
"Please... if he jumped, I don't think I could..." says the woman.
"Don't worry, maam. Nobody saw him jump. The fire crews are just as confused as we are."

There's some bushes nearby located on an elevated stone flowerbed, but hiding them could arouse suspicion if you are caught snooping. It seems safer to simply walk, but given that the guards seem to be after you, it may be safer to escape into the city. But where? You notice storefronts all over, with signs shining bright as torches, somehow illuminated with an almost magical glow.

Horseless metal carriages fly past on the neatly-paved road with astonishing speed. The people of this city seem to keep to themselves, not paying you much heed.

At the next block down, you spot a store with a circled '7' (a familiar character?) called a 'pawn shop', a restaurant, a winery, and a general store.

The response: "Tokyo, Japan," with a map on it. You can zoom out on this map, which zooms out to a large island... and then an even larger continent.

Looking closer, you locate the Roman Empire on the opposite end of the large continent. Your soul seems to have traveled... far.

"Thank you. Um. I'm doing a report about commandos in WW2, can you search up the name Ryzard Czajka?"

Head over to the Pawn shop after my last inquiry and book checkout.

The woman responds immediately.
"Ryzard Czajka was a Polish refugee who escaped the Great Terror of the interwar period, who later trained as a British Commando and participated in partisan operations on the Eastern Front in 1942. He was last reported as missing in action in 1943.

He is mentioned in a chapter of the book Trojan Horse: Partisans of World War II."

...

You grab an umbrella from the umbrella rack. You're pretty sure it was the one that dude was holding. That dude. You don't remember his name. Did he ever even say his name?

Passing along the streets, you navigate a crowded sidewalk. The streets are remarkably clean, and silent automobiles slink past so quickly you hardly see anyone's face through the tinted windows. Electric lamps cast glowing beams of illuminated rain onto the paths below, while neon-colored lights of all varieties dot the storefronts. Giant televisions mounted on buildings display stylized cartoons intermixed with advertisements, each in vivid color.

You finally arrive at the pawn shop, with a big signed marked with the number seven hanging above with its neon brightness. Expecting guns and knives, you find yourself thoroughly disappointed by the racks of jewelry, watches, coins, and stuffed figurines.
They do sell a good variety of pocketknives. They have short blades, but a variety of forms, including a locking knife with multiple handles (3000), a pearl-handled slipjoint knife (4000), and a friction-folder with a rosewood handle and a curved blade (3500).

There is a rifle (12000) on the rack, built from metal, but under closer inspection it appears to fire 6mm plastic balls.

You appear to have 3,850 yen on hand, if that's the currency they use.

What are the chances they are looking for me? With my luck nearly certain.

Head down the stairs and try to get out of the building without drawing attention

Your tiptoe masked by the splattering of rain outside, you push the door slightly shut and head down the stairs, placing your bag over your shoulder. It looks to have two straps to make carrying it easier, which helps since it's pretty weighty.
The stairwell is extremely long. You wonder how tall this building is. Nonetheless, the coast is clear, and you find yourself making it down the unoccupied shaft for dozens of floor. This castle is tall. But no guards? None whatsoever? If those men on the roof were guards, then you haven't seen any others.

You make it down to ground level, and pass through the metal door to a lobby room illuminated to a brilliant radiance with white lamps as bright as daylight. There is a desk marked "Shinzo Corporation" and there are two women wearing business attire receiving guests from the front doors.

No guards on this floor. None at all.

Outside, through the glass facade, you notice two huge carriages made of gleaming red metal. Red lanterns on top flicker bombastically as men and women in orange jmpsuits seem to be waiting outside, looking up toward the rainy sky, some carrying umbrellas.

There's a rack filled with umbrellas at the entrance.

How far are we from the stairs? We could go round the corner and take cover there. Not taking cover in a w40k RPG is a really risky move.

You are right next to the corner, so you can move into the large room and take cover around the edges.

"Sadly, the gang and I are looking for a way off this rust bucket. And where we come from, contracts are signed in blood. You better put up a good fight."

"Hold your fire! Shoot now and we will be forced to respond in turn! What is your purpose when we are merely moving for trade in person?"

"A trade, you say?" The crewmen hold their fire. One of them walks out from behind a servitor. Rather than a pistol, he is armed with a primitive shooting iron, a double-barreled sawn-off shotgun with a vertical configuration.

"I'm afraid we have nothing to do with that trade, miss," he says in some dialect of Low Gothic. They hold their fire, if tentatively, hesitating to aim in the case of return fire.

This entire station gives me an ill omen. Those symbols are disconcerting as well. Could they be...?

Examine the marks we pass by closely, using Forbidden Lore (Heresy to cross-reference the symbols to chaos marks and see if heresy has infested this area.

[-] It's easy to see patterns in things that turn out to be illusion, a mere coincidence. Though it is important to be prepared for the real thing, Lucius find no reason to believe that these markings are related to chaos.

Roll for Forbidden Lore; Pirates/Daemonology.

Amara, on the other hand, recognizes several references to star mythology in the symbols. Their number system appears to be base 12, with each of thirteen digits being based on one of twelve ancient signs used in astrographical sorcery. They retain the number zero, at least by the looks of it.

[-] With respect to pirates, however, much of what she saw previously is familiar to one hunted and forced to dwell among pirates and smugglers. Utilitarian facilities abound with no respect for proper organization nor for cleanliness, the perfect festering ground for many flavours of abominable heresy.

The lack thereof, therefore suggests that something else is afoot. [-] With respect to demons, she can sense no sign, no presence. All seems remarkably still in the warp. It's almost ominous, how the strands of time, normally winding back and forth in an unpredictable dance, now continue onward as predictable patterns. It's as if space itself is more organized out here in the galactic halo.

Maxwell keeps his senses open for signs of warp buggery on the station.

[-] The immaterial landscape within the station is remarkable for its emptiness. It's as if the whole station is caught in the eye of a storm, an island of stability within raging seas.

Something he noticed about the crew aboard the station: a vague hint that something was guiding them telepathically. It wasn't an obvious message broadcasted from a central source, which made it difficult to detect. It seemed more like an entity which danced person to person, sending out vague hints to all of them which were impossible to distinguish from noise. But given the unusual clarity of this part of the warp, Maxwell is almost sure that what he felt was in fact a deliberate presence, and not merely noise.

Those crew back in the cafeteria didn't have the stark warp presence, however, which perhaps forced him to rethink his presence. Then again, they were the only crew heard talking in the entire visit thus far...

Footsteps echo the narrow hallways. It seems like a multitude of men, at least a dozen pairs of feet banging across metal floors. The occasional clang of metal on metal can be heard.

On approach behind the party is a band of eight crewmen, each armed with pistols and primitive batons, clubs, or axes. Three of them appear to be servitors armed with heavy weapons on their right arms. One of the crewmen, in the back, wields a primitve rocket-propelled grenade projector. It looks like it's about to fire across the whole thirty-meter gap between the parties.

"Don't hit their captain!" a voice shouts.
