I'm currently looking into constructing a retracting bridge over a volcano as a form of defense. However, I am unsure whether trolls will break the bridge down, resulting in their deaths being rather undwarfy as they are perforated by my crossbowmen.

Will trolls destroy retracted bridges over a volcano? If so, will they preferably be on it when they do this?

And my repeated failures at getting a nice embark with precious metals, iron, flux, and fuel confirms the above. Countless times have I embarked in a location only to get massive amounts of cobaltite as my metal.


On another note, I finally found an awesome embark on a volcano with iron and flux, but the lack of anything else precious saddens me.

What about titanium? Just as strong as steel, but really, really light. And, in my game, a lot more valuable (I reduced the value of steel. I mean, all you need is flux (common) fuel (common) and iron (super-rare).

Lungfish can get pretty big, and will attack just about anything that looks like it might be made of meat. I was disappointed to learn that they are as good as vermin. No danger, no meat, no bones, just junk for cats to pathfind to and create garbage.

Well, these are also vermin, apparently.

Cinnabar and cobaltite, despite having no use at all but a unique color (only with cobaltite, too), count as metals. I've had so many cases where my only deep metal was mercury. Useless.

Update: Alright, I finally managed to get a map with bauxite. I look inside the bauxite to find sapphire. To my further enjoyment, I see star sapphires in said sapphire clusters.

So diamonds are very, very rare but it should be totally possible to have diamonds on a map. Definitely worth sacrificing a metal, unless it's iron.

It wouldn't technically rip them apart, it would just instantly sublimate all of their tissue resulting in a spray of tissue's component molecules... in other words, big boom.

True. That's why I modded the values of said minerals so that at least they'll give me higher value crafts.

The exception is gems. Gems do not count and are actually quite common.

Two of my three military dwarves have torn ligaments and tendons from danger room accidents.
