DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What do you do with your immigrants?

Depending on their skillset/traits, turn them into farmers or soldiers. Sure, i lose crops due to inexperienced harvesters earlier on, but later on operations become far faster in return.

i'm pretty sure i did that a long time ago, though. Huh. Next time i fire up DF i'll have to check what labors she has enabled.

EDIT: Yeah, 'Spammy' Oslansakrith has no labors enabled, and doesn't really seem to be holding much to put down...unless she's trying to put down her clothes or something.

One former hunter who was severely injured in a fight with a cougar (Looking like ground beef missing a hand afterwards) that somehow managed to recover without needing to go to the fortress hospital is just sitting there and spamming messages:

(Paraphrased)
URIST McINJURED CANCELS STORE PERSONAL ITEM: TOO INJURED

over and over. I don't really want to kill her (She survived being mauled within a inch of her life and didn't even need medical attention, how the hell am i supposed to off someone like that?), but she won't shut up... Besides, i couldn't bring myself to murder a dorf that isn't mandating Cotton Candy earmuffs or anything anyway.

DF Modding / Re: Strangest, Wierdest thing you ever modded into DF

Well, i'm considering modding in the Bagger 288 but i'm not even sure where to begin on that.

As for something i've actually done, i once made it so you could train war fluffy wamblers.

Deciding that it's been far too long since i sat down and played a good game of DF, i started a new fort.

Outpost Nishedtul, "Tradegrooves
2 Miners, 1 Woodworker, 3 Nobles/Admins, 1 Fishery Worker

So far, so good. Nishedtul is settled on a little cliff by the ocean. In winter/early spring, the ocean freezes over. This could be exploitable...

That's some delicious irony; it left me hungering for more. Have you any more scrumptious tales of irony for us? I'd eat my hat if you could top that.

I'm starting up a new fortress, inspired by a certain part from Portal 2 that involves salt mines! So far, i can't do testing spheres but i am digging out large elaborate shafts with large hollow "Columns" in the center that the Dorves live and play in.

Just started a new fortress, and due to a supply choice oversight i have started without a axe, which is a shame because the fort is in the perfect spot.

Abandon, or try to rise to the challenge of starting a wood-less bed-less fort?

I'd like to be able to build transit roads, where you'd eventually get travelers and merchants. You could also build amenities for said travelers, like hotels and so on, and eventually make a killing operating a "Dwarven Truckstop" in addition to mining and so on.

I've noticed that just about anything from the Golden Axe III OST goes well with DF, especially Level 1's theme, "The Vast Field". The Genesis even has (almost) the same FM Synthesis Chip that the ol' Sound Blaster uses (the Genesis uses a YM2151, the SB a YM3...something), which makes it seem a bit more authentic.

Found a ideal spot with a river, a mountain, heavy shrubs and so on. As soon as i spawned, my dorves were mauled by Alligators.

So, i took several minutes searching to find the perfect embark spot, set up all my dwarves and starting equipment to pretty much be optimal, and got the "Strike the earth!" speech, then i started the game.

SUDDENLY ALLIGATORS. Right off the bat, two of my dwarves and some animals dead. I had spawned right next to some alligators. Let's hope i can recover...

While attempting to secure the volcano for maximum profit and weapons making, one of my miners fell into it because of some bad channeling. Damn, now i have 1 miner.

I hope that if hotels are added, travellers are added to give roads and so on a purpose and allowing some additional wealth created/exported.
