DF Modding / Wamblers as Pets?
« on: December 21, 2010, 08:45:12 pm »
So, i want to make Fluffy Wamblers embark pets (for the !!SCIENCE!! of it), and i've added [PET], [COMMON_DOMESTIC] and [TRAINABLE] to the raws, plus tried transfering the FW Raw entry to common domestic. they just won't show up in the animal select menu when i set up a embark, however. what should i do?

One of my friends is a big nut for DF and other roguelikes, i'm trying to introduce another friend (who plays DND) to DF.

Dear Urist McMayor: Who the hell do you think you are? why do you think you need a PLATINUM THRONE?! I just about forgave you for all your previous ridiculous demands after your instrumental role in taking down that cyclops, too.

Besides, we have no platinum anyway. you'll have to make do with the halfassed stone throne i built to fulfill your incredibly retarded demands.

The Cyclops Nemen Illuduxen Ithru Thran has come! A Giant humanoid monster with a single eye set in it's forehead.

Well, Nemen Illuduxen, good luck getting past my Dragon Sentries. Come at me, Bro!

Ostarsom Otung Thun, "Burialoracle the Shock of Dominions", a obsidian crown
This is a obsidian crown. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is encircled with bands of obsidian. This object menaces with spikes of obsidian. On the item is an image of forgotten beasts in Obsidian. On the item is an image of Oceanmelted the cedar scepter (Another artifact of mine) in pig tail fiber. On the item is an image of Inod Woundsilver the dwarf and dwarves in jelly opal. Inod Woundsilver is surrounded by the Dwarves. The Artwork relates to the ascension of the dwarf Inod Woundsilver to the position of queen of The Praised Towers in 274.

Basic Value: 24,800

...

Bit heavy on the Obsidian, eh? I know Oraclepaddle is nestled inside a obsidian mountain, but that's no reason for the maker to have gone overboard...

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Why not use a graphics mods?
« on: December 20, 2010, 07:31:24 am »
It looks nicer, but most graphics packs make everything take up too much screen space for my taste. this laptop's only got a 1280x800 screen, and i really don't feel like using my desktop...

A farm plot can produce 2-3 crops per season
then would it be better to have a bunch of 1x1 plots instead of 1 monstrous plot?

First siege from goblins. The dragons held them off remarkably well (but at the cost of multiple dorves turning into puddles of dorf flambe...as usual). I've had to mine out a second crypt.

This crypt should last me a while, it spans 3 Z-levels. Also, due to a fundamental flaw with that water channel (Forgetting that water can rise z-levels), i've flooded the cotton candy mines. damn. Well, i've got that underwater river i wanted, and i managed to isolate the damage to my last two levels of mine (the ones with Cotton Candy veins). This has exposed some problems higher up, which i am working on fixing before they become a problem with some strategically placed floors and rerouted stairs.

Also, i became dangerously close to a tantrum spiral after a gemmaker and a woodcutter had tantrums.

Does anyone know how i can assign dragons to a specific spot of the map so i can have them guard my wall without broiling dorves any time a bit of toastiness is needed?

THE GOOD NEWS
  • Finally hit the Magma Sea
  • Found cotton candy

THE BAD NEWS
  • Dragons are not a ideal defense against Goblins, especially in heavily populated areas.
  • One of my 6 miners melted to death because he couldn't run from the magma sea in time.

EDIT: I've just about hit lag death, but these recent deaths have brought things up well enough for me to have one final battle against the HFS. I've intentionally breached it, and am in the middle of trying to destroy it with the lava sea. This will be the final ride of Oraclepaddle!

Oraclepaddle's population has gone down from ~80 to 63. Mostly side casualties from that fucking tamed dragon trying to burn a single goblin.

After building enough barracks to house several dozen men, and so on...we've begun digging. We're piercing through the first cavern, avoiding confrontation if possible (Namely, channeling straight through the walls instead of breaching into the cavern proper). I want to link up with that friendly cave swallow man society i occasionally get announcements for, if possible.

ASCII, Honestly. i tried a graphics pack (the one in the Lazy Newb pack), and the characters were just too big. I'm on a laptop (With a 1280x800 screen, no less), so i need every pixel of usable screen space i can get.

Oraclepaddles just got another wave of immigrants, bumping it up to 80 dorves and ressurrecting the ol' bed famine. I had to make some new carpenters just to keep up with demand.
