Why do you want to burn them in the first place?

Removes fat to harden against future burning. Also getting injured increments the "doesn't give a shit anymore" meter.

Ahaaaa. I was gloating evilly and forgot to connect this to "if only we could trade between fortresses". I mean, I could basically ship out all the things. Well, not steel, I don't have flux, but I could trade iron to someone with flux layer stones but a severe lack of ferrous ores. Oh, it would be lovely... ah well.

In Laborfords, it's the 19th of Opal 233 and I've stuck Medtob Sprinkledlens in a romance suite with the five eligible bachelors who can compete for her hand. She barely knows any of them, but that'll change.

The only actual new death is Mebzuth Hatchetwebs in the unpaired male column; everyone else is an old death that's been added into my catalogue. They're sorted by age descending year of birth ascending, then living status, and actually I think I might move dead units to the top and mix in half-dead pairs...

Also, 23rd Timber 233 in Laborfords and I'm up to 28 married couples and 1 in-the-works lover's getaway. Also it definitely looks like dwarven incest taboos extend to aunt/uncle-niece/nephew relationships.

A simple bedroom-and-dining apartment has been constructed for the first and simplest matchmaking exercise.

The miner Melbil Gulfchannel, 82 years old, is the only living founder who is single. There is only one lady dwarf in his age range: one 86-year-old brewer Rith Mirroredrooted. Either they'll marry or they'll hate each other; right now, they barely know each other.


They're passing acquaintances right now, but hopefully after a few months stuck in a room together they'll know each other much better.

They're friends and also that's the second beardling born since I dropped the bratcap to 1:1. Eh, I'll probably lose enough to accidents and "accidents" that I'll be able to stay under 200. And I'm not abandoning this fort as FPS-dead until it's in the single digits. (High 20s right now, down to high teens when annoyingly high number of invaders)

And Sarvesh Abyssink and those 9 adult beards who can (probably, there are three Abyssink men there who are her uncles) vy for her hand? Yeah, she's just a peasant. One of 27 peasants and 26 female Abyssink. Immensely replaceable. As long as she vanishes and I slab her.

She was one of my first deaths, way back before I actually cared about this sort of stuff. She is so inconvenient. (I'll just draft Atis Bluefloors into the military when I finally get off my ass to start that up.)

Three names are at III, by the way: Bembul Abyssink, Olin Utteredinks, and Sakzul Abyssink. FUN!

Also, I hecked up with Olin "Holeportals" (second-last female on the married list in the first image). She is an Utteredinks (Still only 3 Olin Utteredinks, because I got the number of those right the first time at least). I'm gonna need more dwarves before I manage to marry two dwarves with the same surname. FOR SCIENCE!

Nice work, overseer-less dwarves of Laborfords!  As for the peasants, do you have a general, catch-all profession for non-specialists?

Not yet, no. I just let them do their thing, which mostly includes being a part of the regular "set masonry on ALL the dwarves!" Therapist checks. I don't have a custom grunt profession or anything, though. I need one. I'll deal with all that once I hit 100 beardlings.
