It's... beautiful

What does it do?
Look pretty. Also, it's the ground floor of a 100-z tower. And its center will be a 2x2 tube to drop kittens and goblins down. And when I get to making it, the top will be a shrine to Armok. I'd go into glorious detail, but I'm on my phone and thus can't pull out all the pretty pictures I have. (Also I haven't made any yet.)

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Highest Adamantine Spiral?
« on: January 19, 2013, 09:43:16 am »
I know one of my forts had a surface addy spiral, with bonus infinite sky, in 0.31.25. The rest of the world was gloriously bugged and I lucked the hell out.

Toady seems to have fixed whatever caused Armok's Whiskers to appear as of 0.34.xx, which is a pity. Personally, I'd ‼love‼ it if he could program surface adamantine to appear -- something like demonic fortresses, except a lot rarer. One or two per world, maybe, so you'd have to scour the whole damn place for the whisker. Of course, with the upcoming ability to have multiple fortresses going in one world, that could be a lot easier... >:D

Netfocus has a vampire! He drank a migrant strand extractor, and I found him by his complaints about not having had booze in a while. Then I convicted him of the murder, and walled him in with a table and chair. And some changes of clothes. Also I've killed three miners so far (all of them legendaries, FFFFFFFF) due to magma accidents. But then it's their own damn faults for not FUCKING RUNNING AWAY. Idiots.

The baby explosion neatly took care of the population drop due to death, though. :D Seriously, I have 158 dorfs and 46 of them are minors. And 9 of them are peasants I haven't given specific jobs yet because they just grew up.

Can you imagine someone breaking an arm with a wing? the best you could do is smack it really hard, and even then it would probably hurt the wing more.

As a counter-argument, I offer you (total anecdata) a tidbit I've heard about Canada Geese. Those wings? Smack someone with them and the arm is broken. They're strong as shit what with all the flying.

You do have a fair point with cave dragons, though, because due to their habitat of 'underground' the wings are probably too atrophied for flight and that's what the 'limp at their sides' means. 'M just saying that wings have a lot of powerful muscles in them to help with defying gravity, and those muscles could also be used for smacking an arm really, really hard.

(snip)

I'm on my dinky little netbook alone instead of plugging my hugeass screen into it. 12x12 all the way!)

Bu.. Bu.. Netbook can DF? How often do you die due to FPS Death?

All the time. All the time. Mostly because I love me some 3x3s. But yes, netbook can DF.

We-ell. I don't. I use Alloy's 12x12 from the tileset repository. On the other hand, that's basically the same extended ASCII just in square tiles...

Anyway. I play DF in ASCII because it's the default. Everyone knows the hoard of paragraph symbols next to my craftdorf shop is a shitton of mugs. Everyone knows the %s are prepared meals. ^s? Traps. ‼? Cages. Or fire, when around a ‼name‼. People know what those mean, and the wiki uses them, and anyway it makes me imagine shit more. Also it works just fine. And I like it. And it's the default and an overwhelming majority understands it.

But I use square tiles because I like square rooms to be square, thank you very much.

(I did do Phoebus for a while but 16x16 is too big for me, especially when I'm on my dinky little netbook alone instead of plugging my hugeass screen into it. 12x12 all the way!)

Another necromancer got in due to my being a total sucker for letting migrants not die. Managed to pulverize it, though.

The 1-tile meeting area is working, and I now have a total of thirty-one couples, most of whom are married. There's been a pretty much constant stream of marriages, too... I should get flooded in sprogs aaany month now. WHOO!

Dear dwarven couples of Charmtowns,

Get to making babies, dammit! It's actually for the good of the fort this time!

HURRY UP AND POP OUT SPROGS,
Overseer Lielac

I have an unholy amount of fish.

Hey, food's food. I have an unholy amount of beekeeping products for some demented reason. I honestly didn't think industrial scale production was possible with bees.

I have twice as much fish as booze. Bluh. Shall have to plant moar crops.

Muahahahaha! The gates are open, and now comes the slow march of the undead towards... A lot of big buzz saws!

Shit, undead kobolds are trapavoid as well! This means I actually need to train someone for combat!

Buzzsaws only increase the zombie issue anyway. :( (Good luck!)

Oh, did I mention that I've got fastdorfs? Because I've got fastdorfs. Also I turned off the kidcap, so maybe I'll get more minions in about 12 years.

Not much else to blabber about... building up the dining hall after having smoothed it, smoothed the dormitories and am now engraving the shit out of them. I have an unholy amount of fish.

Hah! Found the little bastard, finally! I've set my two squads to MURDER MODE and aimed them at the pesky necromancer. Once it's dead I should be able to rest easy and have as many shells as I want, seeing as I'm completely blocked off from the rest of the world and DFHack says there's only one cursed creature on the map anyway.

@ Lielac - Autodump the scales somewhere and  hack a  single droplet of magma onto them to eliminate the threat. Can't use scale anyway thanks to a bug. If you know where he is, rig traps up to the only way out. Then he wont' be able to do anything and even if he's unrevealed the trail of blood if something falls off wil give him away.

I'll do the autodump and magma. Haven't got a way in or out, though, I made sure of that. There a list anywhere of what all necromancers can animate?

And the asshole doesn't even have the nerve to show up on my units screen while animating alligator scales that kill my dogs. >:( GUYS HELP I WILL DO ANYTHING TO GET RID OF THIS MENACE EVEN HACKING IT OUT OF EXISTENCE JUST HELLLLLLLLLLLP

Machinegate

Fell to zombie hordes when I left the gates open and the ☼large, green glass serrated discs☼ only made things worse. Goddamn necromancer now has 70+ more corpses in her employ and a looooot of miscellaneous and sundry body parts.

Charmtowns

Same world, won't be getting any shiny legendaries because they're all zombies. Going to wall myself in and get to 150+ dwarves via babies and feed the dorfs dog biscuits (that is, biscuits made of dog). I think I'll remove the babycap once I'm settled in. Currently on the 26th of Granite 205.
