DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your fort?
« on: April 22, 2012, 08:43:25 pm »

I think the last age was named after the maggot the siege killed.

1st Granite 6. This time last year, Relicdreams was a thriving outpost of The Stormy Armors. Now, there are only 11 dwarves left. Also a few goblins massacring them. There hasn't been a caravan since the elven one last spring... I think I'm going to have to reclaim.

EDIT: Did I say 11? I meant 2.

EDIT2: Dwarf Fortress isn't responding, I think the goblins just murdered my last two dwarves. YEP OKAY TIME TO RECLAIM

So Relicdreams is going well in the start of its third summer. Pyramid construction's stalled but only because I don't feel like building more, 84 dwarves and rising... and then I get the brilliant idea that, since clay is completely infinite and I have fire clay to boot, I should make the whole thing out of it and have a 32z pyramid of ALL BLOOD RED. This, of course, means I have to tear down the 3 z's already created out of microcline. One at a time, since I don't fancy cave-ins. Whoo. (Still. 84 dwarves. Not too shabby.)

Kobolds en masse, but since I have a few hunters they tend to die horribly fairly quickly. Getting goblin pedophiles too, but they're also good at dying. Oh, and I have a few drowned elves in the trash pile. :)

EDIT: And then a goblin snatcher makes off with a kid while I'm not looking. Goddammit.

EDIT2:
La-dee-da-dee-da, going about my business, building walls along the edges of my brook/road to funnel people, I should probably build bridges at some point to close off the fort in the event of a-

OH FUCK

EDIT3:

Seriously, goblins? Seriously? What is even your plan, I've got a giant maggot hanging around my trade depot and the rest of my dwarves are cut off from the surface, if you get rid of that problem then the human caravan will get rid of you, and if the maggot gets rid of you then it'll be weakened and the human caravan will take it out anyway. Either way I'm not exactly in danger.

EDIT4: Oh and it's destroying my waterwheels. Jerk.

Lielac, Overseer, cancels Make Metal Industry: doesn't have a &%$#ing anvil because she never brings them anymore and forgot to get one off the dwarven caravan.

The human caravan will bring them, but that's still two seasons with gaping holes in the forge area where fire imps could jump through...

RE: Craftdwarf moods

There is a perfectly good craftdorf's workshop on the main workshop level. Please do not use the workshop by the trade depot, as that is exclusively for the creation of mugs to be foisted off on the caravans. I know the last two mooders (and only two) used that workshop, but I wish they hadn't. Your mood interrupts any jobs being done in that workshop, and I like having craft mugs on repeat.

Thank you.

RE: F**king useless artifacts worth only 7200 dorfbucks

Be glad I don't feel like throwing you in the magma, you useless waste of booze. I need every dwarf I can get to finish my pyramid in a decent amount of time.

Relicdreams! Working elf-drowner, nearly 88k dorfburks, kobolds all over the damn place... I think I need to invest in a trap-lined entrance or two before Goblin Christmas... I do have limonite all over the place and limestone as a layer stone for the first couple levels. 8000ish of that is going into the pyramid on top of this fort, but I have a 3x3 embark I'm still swimming in the stuff. Time to get digging!

Edit: Hah, magma tube in the first cavern I hit, 28 z-levels from the surface. Walled off from the cavern, revealed the rest of the tube so I knew its boundaries, and now I'm going to start my first metal industry since Armok only knows how many different forts and several releases ago.

Booze, low priority. Basically I just do that so the liaison doesn't make disappointed noises at me, I'm pretty good at living off the land. I do buy out a fair bit of their food every time they come, but I don't specifically ask for it.

To the dwarves of Stafffilled;

Would SOMEONE please stick the dead miner in a coffin already?   I've got reports of 50-odd of you slacking off, so it's not like you're all busy.  He's starting to stink up the main staircase and everyone's just walking past his body pretending it isn't there.

Sincerely; The Overlordseer

Dear Overseer,

Check to see if it's forbidden. We can't pick up the corpse if you won't let us!

Sincerely,
Dwarves of Stafffilled

PS: You did remember to make sure we've made enough empty coffins, right?

I make a cross between a dormitory and own-room. It's all one gigantic hall so loitering dorfs can witness any vampire attacks, but the beds are spaced out in such a way that I can designate non-overlapping 3x3 bedrooms from them. Then I nix meeting halls so people loiter in their bedrooms when not working.

Aaagh, yes, please. I don't want to waste time picking the wood out of my stone walls because I forgot to scroll to wherever the stone was in the list.

I stripped the entire 3x3 embark of its trees. Luremachines now has nearly 900 logs, filling up almost the entire upper right-hand quarter of the surface level of Luremachines that is walled in (31x31 stockpile). The founding dwarves' clothing is beginning to wear, so I shall drown the elves again this year and use their rope reed fiber cloth to create new clothing. The dining hall is being furnished, which is good - I'm going to make way more than necessary because I Do That, then deactivate masonry on all but the highest level dwarf and make a few statues.

My hunter falling asleep in the butcher's workshop after delivering a kill.

'S the after that's important, of course.

Mine:
Dwarves swarming to do things instead of partying. Hell, dwarves swarming in general because it looks cool.
My broker's job changing to 'Trade at Depot' as soon as I close out the depot 'q' menu after requesting a trader.
Urist McStonecrafter has been taken by a fey mood! and/or Urist McStonecrafter withdraws from society... followed by Urist McStonecrafter has begun a mysterious construction!. (Stonecrafters getting moods means my ability to buy out caravans has increased.)

Tantrum spiral. I jsut discovered that dwarfs who are stricken by melancoly are treated as "Friendly" by the game. (I can attack them.) he he he he he....

Betting on a loyalty cascade.
