DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Slightly noobish questions.
« on: February 16, 2012, 05:45:30 pm »
Hi guys,

I've come back to the game now that the big adventure update has finally been released, still trying to figure everything out. Mainly, how do I equip my loot? For example, I (dwarven axe lord) found 2 superior quality large pig leather shoe, I unequip the shoes I'm wearing and put them in my bag, then I try to [w]ear the pig leather shoes that I looted but it says that I have nothing left to wear? I also tried removing my socks but that didn't work though...

As for trading, I must have sold all my loot about 3 times for a few high quality weapons to a shopkeeper, only to find that I can't find the weapons anywhere. The bastard pretty much robbed me of my items and if I seize some other weapon then that would be counted as stealing.

Thanks in advance.

This happens to me all the time, I don't even bother with coal anymore. Chop some trees down and burn the wood into charcoal or dig all the way down to the lava sea.

That looks amazing, but maybe you should flesh out the torso a bit more if you're planning on moving stuff in it.

Dear selfproclaimed Genius Mason,

Why, oh why, can't you build the piece of wall on the right side of said wall? After having to cancel and reïnitiate the construction 10x and failing every time because of your actions the ungodly demons of hell have now run over the entire fortress and are also munching on the remains of your family. I do hope you have an explanation for all of this, or at least a solution to stop them immediately, because this is where I draw the line and (rage)quit.

On behalf of riverstoned, thank you very much.

Everthing else seems normal. likes gabbro, marble, dwarven wine, birch, etc.
He likes trees and wine?... Might wanna give him a magma bath just to make sure you don't have an elf running your fort.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What can I do with a mountain of Gold?

I got you beat, my site has 208,437 spaces of Native Gold and absolutely nothing else- I was first about to rage at the complete lack of any "useful" metal  but then I realized if I start building everything with gold I will have a giant siege in a very short time, ka-ching!

My Gold is so abundant that it's more abundant than any stone other than Olivine which is 455,803 units. Anywhere I dig I hit gold, it's literally impossible to not dig into gold on this fortress, it's simply everywhere.
When bragging, be sure to actually post the damn save file so we can bask in your awesomeness, we're just going to troll you if you don't  :P.

Thanks! I reckon I should edit creature_domestic.txt right? Is there a limit to how large the number may be?

Thats it, this is the last time I let my elephants die due to their size. I've heard so many times that you can mod out the food needs for most animals and now I'd like know how. Which files do I need to edit and what exactly should I be looking for in those files?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: DigVein designation idea
« on: February 25, 2011, 12:46:41 pm »
I have an idea and I want to share it with the community.

Imagine a situation, quite an ordinary one, when you find a vein of some ore and want to dig it out. You see just some tiles of the vein, as more of them will be revealed after digging. So you mark the tiles, your miners come, dig them all and run away, before you can notice it. You need to pause the game and designate the stones, that have shown out, for digging. You miners come back again and it all goes on the same way.

I suggest programming in a feature, I call myself DigVein. This would be a designation, similar to Dig, except for one: when digging of a tile completes, it marks all neighbor tiles, that are of the same type of stone the tile had, to be also DigVein-ed.  With this feature a player would mark some tiles of ore, the miners would come and dig the whole vein automatically, without a need to control the process.

It would be OK to not consider Damp/Warm stone when excavating a vein for more FUN. So that's the Idea.
As mentioned, DFhack pack has a utility called dfdig. It designates the entire vein for you.
