Deepest apologies for keeping you all waiting,it's definitely worth it though.

- Obsidian EVERYWHERE
- Flux(marble)
- Waterfall(drops a dozen z levels)
- Volcano surrounded by enough flat land
- trade with all civilizations
- Half untamed broadleaf,half untamed conifer(all warm)
- All of this within 4X3

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Location of site EDIT cursor doesn't show up in the image, but the location is in the palm tree tile that is diagonal bottom right to the volcano tile near the water(you are relatively near the site when you open up the map),also,I genned this in 31.16 if it makes any difference(31.18 is very unstable for me and causes massive lag after a couple of years)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
This is, without a doubt, the most epic spawn ever. Thank you so much, totally worth switching to 31.16 :P.

That had better not be a lie, post it!

There's nothing you can do to save her.  What you can do, however, is try to make your dining hall really nice- if it's legendary enough, it should counteract any negative thoughts death may cause.  Engrave the walls, build statues in it, etc.
Ouch, I guess I should have thought of that before I dug my dining hall in yellow sand... Though I think I have more then enough statues to plant everywhere. Thanks for the advice.

I'm quite new to the game, I did about 7 forts to get the hang of the controls and the engine a while back but I kind of gave up on the game after I encountered a few bugs that somehow disabled designations for me. I got back into the game a week ago and I finally got a decent fort going. Now for my problem:

Litast Nourishrag is my designated doctor/miner, when the fortress started she and Dastot Rampartpunch (fisherdwarf/grower) became fond of eachother. They fell in love and in order to fulfill her love for the fisherdwarf she went into a strange mood and claimed on of the local Mason workshops. This was my first strange mood mind you and I had no clue how to handle the situation, she grabbed a bunch of Bitumnious Coals and I figured I should just let her do whatever the hell she wants to. This didn't work out however, as she is now running around butt naked through the entire fortress with all the gents looking at her and all the ladies turning away in shame.

The Fisherdwarf is rather popular in the fort as he has about 6 friends already, so I'm afraid if Listat dies now then he will become miserable and throw the entire fort in a tantrum spiral. I have never dealt with any of this before so this is why I turn to the community for help.

Is there anything I can do to help Listat get out of the mood? I already tried putting her lover in one bedroom with her so they can talk it out but she just ran away doing flip flops... Having the entire fortress undress and join the tantrum spiral does sound pretty fun but I've kind of grown attached to this fort so I don't think I'd like to go with that option.

I'm pretty sure that any kind of mining, woodcutting, or plant gathering designation doesn't show up on the job list until a dwarf targets some rock to dig or a tree to cut down. So that bit's working fine, it's probably the least important bit. The problem here is that they aren't attempting the designated tasks for some reason.

I suspect the problem is that they can't reach any of the places you want them to go to. What do your current stairs and ramps look like? It's not an uncommon mistake for a newbie to build ramps the wrong way and then their dwarves can't go up them.

Also, what version are you on? The actual version number, don't just say "the latest version" because I actually have seen someone assume they were on the latest version and it turned out the version they were playing was five or six releases ago.
The latest LazyNewb pack, I think that comes with 31.16 but I'm not sure. What I do know, is that they shouldn't have any trouble reaching the designated spots, its getting late over here though so I won't be able to give you any pictures until tomorrow I'm afraid.

I know it's been a while since I've been here, but the problem has repeated itself in my newest fortress. Something is going wrong here, new designations no longer show up on the job lists and they're not being carried out by my dwarfs. This time my dwarfs aren't digging any more, nor are they removing slopes or gathering plants.

Why is this happening? The new fort is on a different computer this time (an old laptop due to my current computer going through repairs, something was wrong with the networking) so it can't be hardware related...

It's down. I saw a message on the front page when I tried to connect a while ago. Hopefully it'll be back up soon.

Also, a handy way to check.
Ooh, thats a nice little tool you gave me there, thank you.

I was going to give the game another shot today, but when I wanted to look up some soil types for my new embark site I noticed that the Wikia was down. Was this scheduled or anything because I can't find anything about it here...

Hey you guys, sorry for taking so long to reply but my exams are comming up and I kind of forgot about my fort. I just thought of it again and I checked what you guys said. I found the axes, they we're put on the small weapons stockpile but the dwarfs aren't wielding them. I deleted the stockpile (as they're the only weapons :/) but it doesn't seem to have an effect.

But its not about the axes or wether or not the labors are activated on the dwarfs themselves, the woodcutting jobs don't show up in the job list. Thats the most important bit, they don't even show up.

I have been placing some walls and smoothing some stone, but thats about 10 z-levels down under the ground, so that doesn't make a lot of sense...

Edit: Another thing I noticed, the dwarfs won't go to the floor above my main floor, they won't even pick up the cage I put down on their (again noob action, I thought I could capture animals with them :P).

Basic checklist, you will need:

  • Axes
  • Woodcutting labour turned on
  • Designated trees
  • Dwarves with the labour able to reach the trees

Are you sure you have all of those?
1st: is there a quick way to check your items? There's a good chance these got lost somewhere...
2nd: check
3rd: check
4th: what?
Do you have a dwarf with the "Wood Cutting" labor enabled?  If not, that is probably the problem.

If you are using the lazy newb pack, I recommend trying out dwarf therapist for easy dwarf labor management.  :)
3 Dwarfs ready to cut the hell out of the forrests. I'm not that much of a noob that I don't use DT ;) but thanks for the hint.

Hey everyone,

I'm having a bit of a problem with my current fort (I'm somewhat of a noob and I sort of spend the entire first year on getting basic workshops going, cutting gems and starting a farming industry. I think I made the latter too large but thats not what this is about atm...), I have put multiple "cut trees" designations down but they don't show up as jobs on the job list and none of my dwarfs are cutting wood. Just when I finally get some wooden crossbows this happens -_-.
