- Jobs. As mentioned, I don't really have much of a resume, nor any references. That makes me wonder how I could, as LordBucket said, arrange for work before I even move (that sounds like an employer taking quite a long shot on me). Once I'm there, how best to go about it? Just walk in any place and ask if they've got a position open? Government assistance? Classifieds? I imagine the answer is 'all three, and keep at it 'til you find something', but thoughts on any particular method are appreciated.
References shouldn't be that much of a problem, I think - I got a job in Georgia without knowing anyone in the state. Do you have teachers you got along well in high school, in classes where you did well ? Do you have a priest or pastor you're acquainted with, if you're religious ? Or get friends' numbers. People you know. I think your family doesn't count though, but I'm not sure. If you don't have job experience, references are there to make sure you don't slack off and steal stuff, it seems.
Then yeah, "all three, and keep at it til you find something"

Phone to companies if you can't go see them. I never got any success with online applications, but maybe you will. I always found it more effective to go see people directly. Newspapers can be a good source of job offers too.
Oh, and if you ever find a job placement agency that promises you a job or anything, but ask you for a fee up front, walk away !
