You mentioned a 10 hours car ride ; will you be moving a lot ? That would influence my choice if I were you. If you're going to spend a lot of time in different places, you'll probably want the laptop.

Bad spambot ! Go get your own thread !

Well isn't that shocking. It wouldn't be like the Church has split countless times over trivial things like decorations now...

Like what ? I'm really curious now. I know of the major splits, but I have never heard of a split over decorations.

The iconoclasty debacle solidified the split between Orthodox and Catholic Christianity. IIRC.

Yeah ... but it concern more things than just decoration. There's a theological debate underneath, about the representation of God. It's not just a matter of taste - besides, both Orthodoxy and Catholicism are pretty accommodating when it comes to that, what with all the different rites and whatnot.

And it just solidified the split, not caused it :)

- interesting explanation -

Ah, ok. That makes sense. I come from a catholic family, so I haven't even considered that he could be talking about protestant communities -they're not churches in my head. I was racking up my brain, trying to find a schism that didn't involve complex theological issues, or political considerations, or things on that level.

Oy I remember you ! But it probably doesn't matter, since nobody knows who I am. But yeah, an anonymous stranger on the internet knows who you are :D I liked reading your threads, they were fun.

And you haven't missed anything important, not that I know of. DF 0.34.10 is out, there's a lot of revolutions going on around the globe, and the world is going to end on december 21. The usual.

Iirc, Anglicans see themselves as in-between protestantism and catholicism. They do have a clergy, after all. Which is why we have this thread.

Do Anglicans have female priests though ? I mean, they probably do, since the issue is about female bishops, but how accepted are women priests ? (Or is the clergy system much more different than catholicism than I first thought ? )

LordBucket, thank you ! This is pretty sweet. I have two nationalities, but they overlap quite a lot. It's funny to see the differences that pop up though.

Well then, there's a project I can build once I finish university ! :D

Yeah, my biggest issue was visas. I don't know how people who travel through all of south america (for example) do. It must cost a lot of money, and take a lot of time with all the procedure requirements and all, to get every visa in order before actually starting the trip. Do people just apply for every visa one after the other before going away (which seems tedious) ? Or do they apply for one visa, get into that country, and then apply for the next (which looks dangerous) ? Visiting one country seems easy enough, going on a round trip across a continent or a region of the world seems a lot harder.

Then again, the only experience I had with visas was trying to get inside Algeria (which is a nightmare. Don't go to Algeria folks). I don't know how representative that was.

Heh. I always found the idea quite interesting, and even planned on doing it a few times, but then ran into a lot of questions I could never find an answer to. I admire the people who are resourceful enough to pull it out, and I hope I'll be able to as well one day.

I'm pretty sure he's joking  :P

I'd say it poses less of a problem because, while being atheists, the atheist couple from your example is still following society's general rules toward marriage, which are still heavily influenced by christian morals or something - or, if you prefer, it's not marriage that atheism challenge. They may not believe in God, but they still do everything by the book, if I can say. Atheism will probably be bashed for other things, like, I dunno, slowly destroying morals in general by challenging the source of morals which is religion, or something.

At least, it's my interpretation. I still don't understand the american christians' reaction really, I mean, it never goes beyond emotional reaction, and never brings any kind of intelligent reflexion. Christians can have intelligent reflexions, and they can even have intelligent reflexions against gay marriage, I've seen it happens. But nooo, apparently we're just going to scream and rage and frothe in the mouth or something. Maybe there is, and I'm just blind and I can't see it. I don't know.

Good luck with college ! It's a good thing that you're going back there, don't let it slip again like last time ! And don't worry about not moving on your own, you can always do that later on. And um sorry if I sound patronizing or something.

Someone ought to now translate everything that has been said in this thread so far.

I did passed everything through the google translator machine before posting (the "detect language" function is quite useful), just to see if there was some hidden sense into this thread.

There's not. Everyone just post random stuff in their native tongue.

Ici c'est le fil où tout le monde parle sa langue maternelle on dirait, alors je vais m'y mettre aussi !

Hé, suis-je le seul à tout passer dans un traducteur automatique ?

- Jobs. As mentioned, I don't really have much of a resume, nor any references. That makes me wonder how I could, as LordBucket said, arrange for work before I even move (that sounds like an employer taking quite a long shot on me). Once I'm there, how best to go about it? Just walk in any place and ask if they've got a position open? Government assistance? Classifieds? I imagine the answer is 'all three, and keep at it 'til you find something', but thoughts on any particular method are appreciated.

References shouldn't be that much of a problem, I think - I got a job in Georgia without knowing anyone in the state. Do you have teachers you got along well in high school, in classes where you did well ? Do you have a priest or pastor you're acquainted with, if you're religious ? Or get friends' numbers. People you know. I think your family doesn't count though, but I'm not sure. If you don't have job experience, references are there to make sure you don't slack off and steal stuff, it seems.

Then yeah, "all three, and keep at it til you find something" ;) Phone to companies if you can't go see them. I never got any success with online applications, but maybe you will. I always found it more effective to go see people directly. Newspapers can be a good source of job offers too.

Oh, and if you ever find a job placement agency that promises you a job or anything, but ask you for a fee up front, walk away !
