EDIT: Although, I now know that landing on desert planets can be VERY profitable.

Early on, I found a pyramid. It contained a fuckload of L5 ores.

Wait, what ? what are those planets like ? I found Ice planets, Terran planets (with trees and grass), Alien planets (purple) and Red planets (red rock and soil).
Atmospheres seem to be consistently : deep blue for ice, green for terran, white blue for alien, and red for red. Are those desert planets the red ones, or is it another type that I haven't encountered ? (take those colors with a pinch of salt, i'm colorblind)

Edit : could it be that I'm sometimes mistaking yellow and green and desert planets would be yellow ?

Edit : ok found one, it is yellow. Also this is weird : now I found alien planets with green atmosphere. I guess it's sorta random ?

I tried joining a server but it keeps freezing me every ~5 minutes (sometimes more often sometimes less) and the only thing I can do to fix it is wait a bit and relog.

That's annoying to say the least.

Is there really no Negacide anywhere at all? :(

There is some in shops. Depending on your luck you can find L4 or L5 Negacide and turn it into a lot of usable L1 Negacide with a minerals separator.

I am apparently incredibly stupid and cannot install this game. How do I do this?

Download the launcher (StarMade-starter.exe), open it and click "Update and install latest version". Wait until it's done and click "Start Game".

I managed to kill a couple pirates, and wasn't even able to loot everything, but I still got over 600 L5 minerals, which sells for 1 million a piece.

Yea... forget about salvaging neutral stations, pirate loot is where the real OP is. But I guess that killing pirates is quite hard in the beggining, so at first I'd advise buying salvaging lasers and finding an ice planet, the ice crystals there sell for 500 piece and are quite abundant.

To think that when I first discovered that I could make a profit from buying minerals, separating them and making basic stuff from it in the particle press, I was so proud to get 10k credits in a few minutes... now this all seems like such a waste of time >_<

Hopefully the next versions will be a bit more fleshed out and balanced.

This morning I was having a couple nice games : first I had to go mid for a change (instead of ADC bot), and played Kassadin (unranked soloqueue), which resulted in a 9/0/6 score for me and a win. I decided to push my luck a bit and play a ranked game (soloqueue still).

I managed to pick Kassadin again, but the enemy team countered me with Fizz ! I was panicking a bit (I had all sorts of bad previous experiences with Fizz), so I read a bit about how to play the lane while the map was loading... Turns out, after a couple exchanges, I managed to kill Fizz once, then again, and again... He never got a kill on me and I was able to gank sidelanes quite easily. I was 9/0 when I eventually died 1v1 from the fed enemy draven, but it wasn't that big of a deal, at this point I had already snowballed and we won.

Then I played another unranked solo game and picked my main (tristana adc), while most of my team kinda trollpicked (well I guess me too since there was already someone playing adc caitlyn). I was expecting Caitlyn to play with me bot, but instead she said she hated my guts and went top with kat. Thankfully, the other team was trollpicking as well, so I ended up 1v2 against Yi and Nunu. At lvl 2 they decided to tower dive me, but I managed to grab a double kill :p. After that I just bullied them thanks to my range, and grabbed kill after kill, dying only a couple times from ganks. I snowballed super hard on this one, so my final score was 19/2/5 (and we won of course). I guess Caitlyn still hated me, given how she was trying to take CS or kills from me at every turn (too bad she didn't succeed :D). I could tell that Yi and Nunu got scared of me quite a bit though, every time I went after them they ran away despite being full hp and having managed to score kills on my teammates, and every time they died :D.

Having games like these after a bad streak is really good for my morale !

If you're curious...

Working on the assumption that minecraft cobblestone is, as it appears to be, crushed bits of rock...

The average density of crushed rock is 1.6 metric tons per 1 meter cube.

If that barrel is holding 64 stacks of 64 blocks of Octuple Compressed Cobblestone, that is 4096 blocks of said compressed cobblestone.

If each of those 4096 blocks contains 43043712 normal blocks of cobblestone that is 17.6 x 1010 blocks of cobblestone, which would be 28.1 x 1010 metric tons in density, all in the space of 1 cubic meter.

I think my math is right here, anyway.

Following on that, I checked the Schwarzschild radius for that mass, and it's not enough to create a black hole, not by a long shot : it would have to be compressed in a sphere of radius ~4.175 x 10-13 meters to be a black hole.

With a density of ~2.8 x 1014 kg/m3, this barrel is somewhere between the density of a white dwarf star (1 × 109 kg/m3) and a neutron star (8.4 × 1016 – 1 × 1018 kg/m3).

This mass of rock is approximately equivalent to a 3km radius asteroid.

My guess is, if it existed in the real world, it would explode, because the mass isn't enough to keep it contained through gravity alone (a 3km asteroid's gravity is very weak, no matter how dense)

My new ship, a bit less ugly than the previous one :

Ok I didn't put too much effort into it but I think that the cross reactor exhaust is a nice touch.

I was still playing this afternoon (EU time). Here's my current ship (this one is quite ugly because i threw it together as a quick repair that i could battle with).

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I think that the reactors are Trinium, the body Titanium and the head Naonite. As you can see it's pretty fast. I'm also using pretty good weapons (around 80k/60k per turret to install), and i recently acquired a dual 505.5 efficiency abatium mining laser (total 1011 efficiency). With it and two others I get a total of 1590 efficiency.
Even the largest asteroids are mined within seconds  :D

As for weapons, I'm currently sporting a 241 dmg/0.2 firerate trinium projectile turret, a 132.9 x2 naonite beam turret and a 47.3/0.1 firerate x2 trinium projectile turret. I'm not exactly sure how much DPS that is but it's pretty good at taking down shipyards.

I'm kind of enthusiastic about this game, I think it has a lot of potential if improved upon, but right now my most pressing concern is the way various materials are treated, as straight tier upgrades from the previous ones. It goes Iron -> Titanium -> Naonite -> Trinium -> Abattium -> Urgium -> Xanion -> Ogonite -> Avorion, that's 9 steps during which the same gameplay repeats, you have to travel to a higher level area, kill friendly ships (?), steal their weapons/mining lasers, and then mine the higher tier of metal, to build a stronger ship to kill stronger NPCs.
Granted, you can probably burn a few steps, but that seems to be the general path laid out for you. I think that as far as upgrades go, 9 tiers is at least 4 too many.

Also, the way ships work means that you're far better off flying a huge monolithic brick than a detailed ship, because each block has it's own HP, and if it breaks, everything attached to it breaks free (premade ships are vastly inferior because of that). So far you can't sell metals or guns, but I hope this will get added to the next version.

What I'd like to see : the ability to build our own stations, some way to research, build and/or buy guns/mining lasers, more modules (like better hyperspace drives, shields, maybe tractor beams and more types of guns)...

If the planets were more than just backdrops, that would be great as well. I'm guessing there are some technical limitations to what would be possible, but even if it was just an abstracted menu where you manage planetary installations and the ownership grants you some sort of income, that would already be great. Maybe this could be done by building a special kind of space station (and you would have to destroy it in order to take over the planet).

Instead of infinite storage, I would also like it if we had a cargo hold block to include in our ship designs (and to stations). This way, trading and stations would take more importance. We can also imagine long-distance travel gates that would have to be built by players with large amounts of resources, so as to link rich core sectors and fringe areas. In general, I think that asteroid mining shouldn't be the best way to get resources, only the most easily accessible. Planetary installations should provide the bulk of resources, otherwise on older, more populated servers, there would be a risk of resource depletion.

Well, I kinda enjoyed it but it didn't hold my interest like for you, and it made me install b&w2
As said before, Its mostly just a puzzle game.

Yea basically it's a god-sim themed puzzle game, not an actual god sim.

For some reason, I don't enjoy playing this game at all. It doesn't hold my interest, and I always leave long before the time is up. Maybe I'm just not in the right mood, but I find it boring, slow and pointless. I guess I was expecting more. The terrain is basically a circle in segments, and villages have such short borders that you can barely get anything inside. I'm sure you can do all sorts of combinations, but I just don't find the appeal in all the little abstract mechanisms of synergies, aspects and whatnot. I'm pretty sure I would enjoy replaying Black and White more than this.

Rules of ranked soloqueue :

-If someone REALLY wants to play a role, he will suck at it and he will take a champion that doesn't fit in the teamcomp.

-If someone in your team criticizes your choice of champion/summoner spells/build/etc... he will be feeding and possibly leaving the game.

-If two people are premade, they will most likely want to go bot. The better player will pick support while his newbie friend tries to break the record for worst AD ever, and they will lose their tower early on.

-If you're on your last match to move up a league, you'll have the worst team ever to make sure you don't win that one.
