Other Games / Re: Discussion on TES V: Skyrim - IT'S ACTUALLY GOOD!
« on: November 11, 2011, 01:14:28 pm »
Sooo i just played a bit till the first village, the game is pretty good so far, i run it on medium so the graphics are not very impressive, but it's ok (makes me wanna buy myself a new computer for christmas though :p).

My only problem was small freezes that occur in some places (at the very beggining when you wake up for instance).

The crafting system is interesting, even if not very deep so far (think fallout new vegas).

One last thing i noticed, if my memory is correct, this is the first Elder Scrolls to feature kids ! It's not very important but it adds realism to the game.

So, i decided to try Soraka in dominion, after i got her "divine" skin with my free RP. Turns out she's not bad but the people playing with me were. =(

The enemy team had a missing tryndamere so we had the advantage early on, but then he came back and ... well let's just say that every time i went bot and got it back, my team lost top, and every time i went top, they lost bottom. We almost won though, at the end we had 16/1, but they recaptured top just in time, after that it was impossible to get it back in time.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I still think Zilean is better, if only for his speed boosts, silencing people is a strong tool in dominion but it just takes too long to go back to the capture points without speed boosts.

I think Shyvana's dragon form looks like a chicken. I was expecting something more impressive. Oh well, i guess i'll wait for the 9 tailed fox to spend my IP on.

I just had one of these hilarious comeback victories in dominion, first our Talon was d/c for the first 5 minutes, we went down to 50 / 450 something, and then it was like magic, we got 3 turrets, held them, and kept laying siege on their 2 turrets, until we eventually won with all 5 turrets under our control. I was playing Zilean and i think i was just very lucky because i managed impossible saves, crazy races against rammus and whatnot... it's like i was always at the right place at the right time with the right skill off cooldown.

Before, i used to play Ryze, but Zilean is my new dominion favorite !

I've played some games as Zilean in dominion, man this guy is crazy overpowered for this game mode. The early game is a bit lackluster, but as you get more CDR and as you level up your skills, he becomes some sort of permaslow/permaspeed machine, throwing bomb after bomb after bomb. The speed allows you to be everywhere on the map in no time, the bombs erase entire creep waves for great pushing/ cash earnings, and the slows make melee champions useless. Add to that all the revives... yea it's really a big plus for a team.

Probably, I just feel very bad having to ask you to repeat yourself all the time because I can't hear anything lol.
Well, you could've been louder :)

Hmm then i guess i'll get a better microphone, i need a new headset anyways, right now i'm using the mic of my webcam.

Edit : Whoaa my bad ! i just checked my skype settings, and it appears i had moved the microphone volume almost all the way down, thinking it was some sort of volume threshold to filter background noise, like in mumble... I should be louder from now on ! :D

Errol: I can understand you pretty clearly. German accent too awesome. The only one I can never hear is Sirian, and I don't know why. It's like it's super ultra soft whenever he's on Skype.

I don't know either, when i'm with french people they can hear me clearly, and Jar of Jam had no complaints when i played with him the other day (in english). So yea, maybe my accent is a type that you have trouble "processing" or something :p
Also i'm not used to speak english and i feel like i'm trying too hard whenever i do, mangling words and whatnot. Except when i'm drunk, or in my dreams. I'm perfectly fluent then.

I too noticed that i tend to lose more often when i'm not solo queuing. I think that part of the problem is that i don't play the same with strangers and with friends. Also it's sometimes harder to concentrate on the game with people talking in your headphones. And depending on ELO/summoner level, you might end up with opponents with a much higher skill level than some of your team.

So, i discovered this game (now out of beta) on an unrelated website, tried it without believing it would hold my interest for more than a few hours, and i must say, it has now been several days and i'm still hooked. It can be a bit grindy depending on what you do, but it's also a pretty good sandbox-ish game.

It's not a "facebook game" in that the cash shop only offers cosmetic stuff, and there is enough free clothing to differentiate your toon from the others. Also it seems to come with a free 1 month subscription -but again this only unlocks more cosmetic stuff.

The skill system has been compared to the one in EVE, which is correct except that the time required to learn skills is much shorter, so i think that with proper planning you can max out most of the skills in under a month.

I read someone in this thread saying that it seemed targeted towards a young audience, but it's actually wrong, you're supposed to be 14+ to play, and from reading the chat when someone asked about ages, i can say that a vast majority of players who answered were between 20 and 30, with some being 40+.

Most actions in the game use "energy", but unlike in most browser games, you can actually play continuously without waiting for daily refills. First, your max energy increases with each level, and gaining a level also refills it to the max. Then you can also eat food, until you're stuffed (which never happened to me so far, although i've played quite a lot). And then every "game day" (lasting 4 real hours), you get a full energy refill, and hunger (among other things) is reset.

The funny thing about this game is that there is no actual goal other that what you decide to do, but you always feel like you've got something to do. Granted there are quests, which give you some sense of direction, but most of them tend to be completed along the way, or sometimes they're just little challenges. Goals can include gaining money/items, levelling up, getting favor from the gods, completing achievements and getting trophies, or simply exploration, but really it's all up to you.

If you like crafting, you should definitely try this game, at least because it's quite unique in some ways.

Oh and don't be scared by the big "connect with facebook", it's apparently a way to invite friends, but i never used it and there is no other facebook-things in the game.

Ah and feel free to add me to your contacts if you play : http://www.glitch.com/profiles/PUVSDSQOKEE2D5R/

I've started playing this, my party ("Shen an Calhar") is lvl 2, i have 2 warriors, a priest, a mage and an archer. The first thing i noticed is that playing in a better town is way easier, the healer costs seem to be lower and there is more/better stuff to buy in the shops.

Other than that i've been wondering : is the back row the bottom one or the top one ? I've been playing with my mage and archer at the bottom but i feel like they are attacked more often than the rest. Too bad there is no wiki for this, there is a lot of missing information, like what potions do, how often shops restock, how often chests refill, monsters stats, etc...

Scaling AD is ridiculous in endgame.
Agreed, if i remember correctly, AD/lvl is better than flat AD as soon as you hit lvl 7, which is early enough for me. You may not dominate the very early game, but you'll snowball more easily. If you don't use arpen at all, you can maximize the effects of stark's and black cleaver (on squishy targets, arpen is not used if the armor is already reduced to 0 or below).

How do you counter Katarina? I want to know how to overcome every obstacle with her.

I stay out of her shunpo/dagger range and i don't stand too close to my minions to avoid bouncing daggers. I attack her when she doesnt have a minion to jump to behind her. Sometimes i manage to out-harass her. In teamfights, if i can't interrupt her ult, i try to escape it's range. Magic resist often helps.

- we don't consume "air", we consume oxygen.
That's a good way to get (slightly) high, but you'll be wanting some other gasses to decrease the oxygen content in the on board atmosphere.

But then again apparantly space suits are supposed to be pure oxygen affairs. Maybe it's alright to get wasted if you're an astronaut?

I said "consume", not "breathe", of course the air we breathe is mostly nitrogen, but we don't consume the nitrogen.

And indeed sometimes they use pure oxygen at low pressures :
Quote from: Wikipedia
By reducing or omitting diluents (constituents other than oxygen, e.g., nitrogen and argon) the total pressure can be lowered to a minimum of 21 kPa, the partial pressure of oxygen in the Earth's atmosphere at sea level. This can lighten spacecraft structures, reduce leaks and simplify the life support system.

About this "air" thing, where does the "11000" come from ?

Other than that i have a few comments :
- we don't consume "air", we consume oxygen.
- your crew will die from CO2 poisoning before running out of oxygen.
- if you have CO2 scrubbers, they will lose performance over time due to O2 rarefaction and will die before the O2 levels reach 0.
- if you use O2 tanks, you can store oxygen at up to 700 bar with our current technology (i think).
- a human being consumes about 500 liters of O2 per day (about 700g).
- 1 cubic meter of O2 @ 700 bar = 700 000  liters @ 1 bar = enough O2 for one human for 1400 days (weights almost a metric ton though).

Edit : i wrote this assuming that you're not using O2 tanks and are only relying on the same ambient air for the whole trip.

Creative Projects / Re: Game Project : Space Colonization

So, the project didnt advance much during the last month, I was distracted by games and other stuff, but i'm still working on it, i guess i'm just spending too much time on details... >_<

Recently, i've been working on the furnace buildings, at first i planned to have only one type of furnace at tech lvl 1 (the arc furnace), but as i researched more into the subject, i realised that an arc funace can't really smelt iron ore, so I spent several hours looking up blast furnaces, and now i have numbers for the input/output of those in terms of in-game ressources.

One thing that i like, is that, surprisingly, a blast furnace can work by using only lvl 1 ressources : Oxygen, Carbon, Carbonate (and Iron Ore). The ressource that i call "Carbonate" is really Calcium Carbonate, and it's also used in making Carbon, Concrete and Glass. In DF terms, it's Limestone, basically.

My only problem with calcium carbonate is that it seems to be a byproduct of organic life, which doesnt make much sense if you're colonizing a desert world, but it's too useful for me to not use it.

So yeah, slow progress for now, mostly crunching numbers for the buildings costs and productions but i really want to get an alpha version out as soon as possible so i'll keep at it, even if it feels like a snail pace.

Two other things, the first one is that i somewhat like learning new things (like "how does a blast furnace works"), and i sure learn a lot when i'm working on this game, and the second one is that i'm thinking about including the "pollution" from industries into the terraformation aspect of the game (which won't be in the first release though). Basically, i plan to let the player influence the atmosphere contents with dedicated terraforming facilities, and when i read about the blast furnace and it's CO2 output, i thought it would be cool to have it add to the process. (I just made a quick calculation, it seems that one would need to smelt several hundred billion tons of iron to make a terraforming-class change in the atmosphere of my planets).
