Mafia / [TEST] RoboMafiaGM Testing (5/7) - Day 3
« on: June 23, 2021, 03:00:25 pm »
Hi, this thread is for testing the RoboMafiaGM bot.

Feel free to post here, as if it was an actual game that was starting.

Please read the following carefully. Don't specifically try to break the bot by sending in garbage - it will just ignore it.

Quote
The bot only parses red text that is outside of quotes.

This red text is interpreted as a single command of the form COMMAND a "b c",
where "COMMAND" is the command you want to run (e.g. doing your action), and the 2 arguments are "a" and "b c".
If a command can't be parsed, it will be ignored - you have been warned.

Some commands don't have any arguments, while most have 1 or 2.

You can use in or join, before the game, adds you a player in the lobby.

During the game, you can use the following commands:
- vote TARGET to vote for a player. Note that it will choose the player name closest to TARGET, within a certain limit. "No Lynch" is a valid player name - make sure to use exactly "No Lynch" (with quotes) or NoLynch (without spaces).
- unvote to unvote. (This may not work yet :P)
- votecount to ask for a vote count.
- do ABILITY TARGET... in the thread OR in a PM to RoboMafiaGM to use ABILITY on one or more TARGET(s).

When sending PMs to RoboMafiaGM, use a subject similar to the thread's name so that it can find the proper game thread - otherwise, it will silently reject your PM.
For example, you could use "RoboMafiaGM Testing" for this thread.

For GMs, there are a lot more commands that will be available only to me, since I started the thread.  ;D

You can also ask any questions about the bot (inner workings, help interacting with it, when it will be done...)

I will also be using this thread to increase the post count of RoboMafiaGM so that it can send PMs back without failing due to the anti-bot captcha. :P

Mafia / Build Your Own Game - Delayed but still alive! [6/7+]
« on: April 07, 2021, 04:04:59 pm »
Build Your Own Game is a BYOR-style game where the game mechanics and abilities are created by the players.
A selection of these will be implemented in the "Mafia Engine" that I am building.
This same engine will then be used to run the game in an automated fashion (with human fallbacks, of course).

Please sign up, even if we already have 7 players lined up!

Expected start date: July 15th, 2021 (very approximate)
Current status: Engine is ready, roles and Bay12 Forums integration still need to be done.

Signing up
  • Read this post carefully.
  • Reply with "In", optionally as part of some wordplay.
  • Send me (TolyK) a PM the following:
    • A specific role ability. Example: [Night] Protect {target}. They can only target you this night (all other targets fail).
    • A broad or specific game mechanic. Example: [Mechanic] Day actions occur only at the end of the day, similar to night actions.
You may send up to 3 of these: 3 abilities, 2 abilities and 1 mechanic, etc.
Feel free to include different "power levels" for abilities, so that I can more easily mix and match.
Feel free to also include any thoughts alongside in your PM.
You will only be signed up when you send the PM, and you can't change the ideas you've sent after the fact (unless I specifically ask you to).
You should probably keep your ideas a secret, because you'll have additional knowledge that others won't have.

The game

After sign-ups end, I will select the most "doable" and "reasonable" abilities/mechanics and start implementing them in the Engine.
Then I'll create the setup and test it out locally using the Engine.
When the game is ready, I'll send out roles.
Players won't know what roles are actually in the game, but they are guaranteed to use a subset of all submissions.

Rules

  • I will not be accepting players that are completely new or who have a history of lurking (sorry). Please let me know about problems in the thread.
  • Days will be 96 hours (4 IRL days) long; weekends count as normal days (I'm willing to consider changing this).
  • Nights will be 24 hours long; weekends count as 0 hours.
  • There will be no extensions, except for technical reasons.
  • Standard communication policy: only post in this thread or in mod-provided QuickTopics; you may only PM the mod (me); do not directly quote the mod.
  • Voting will be automated, and the format will be specified later.
  • Flavor does not indicate anything special; don't read into it.
  • I, the mod, will answer questions truthfully (or decline to answer) in PMs or publicly.

Mechanics/abilities can override the following rules:

  • I, the mod, will not lie to you.
  • No hammers (i.e. days always last their full time length).
  • The game uses the standard Day-Night cycle and begins with a Day.
  • Day action order is on submission time.
  • Night action order is defined by the Engine; I will try to follow Webadict's/mafiascum's action priorities.
  • On death, players will have a public roleflip of their current state.

Sign-ups:
1. TricMagic
2. Vector
3. notquitethere
4. FallacyOfUrist
5. Caz
6. Webadict
7.

(Order is determined by when I recieved the PM, rather than "In!" order).

Mafia / [On Hold] Machine Learning on Mafia games
« on: March 19, 2017, 06:18:10 pm »
Latest update:
As it seems that the data I can collect is too noisy (heterogenous, etc.), or maybe it's just my techniques that are really bad, but I haven't had much success, nor time to improve the system. As such, I'm putting this on hold for now.

Hi guys! Over the last few days I've been working on a project in Python. The idea is to train a machine learning classifier to differentiate between Town and Mafia players based on the text of their posts. So far, I've gotten down extracting all the users + posts from an entire Bay12 Forums thread, and saving it into neat objects.

The problem I have now is labeling the players as "Town", "Mafia", or "Irrelevant" (OP, people who are posting to watch, IC's in BMs, etc.). This has to be done by hand, and unfortunately a lot of GMs don't label the final alignments of players when they flip or when the game is over, or they do at the game-end post (which isn't the last one, because of discussion after the game...).

The part I would like help on, if anyone wants to volunteer, is labeling the players in mafia threads, for example from the Beginner's Mafia threads. If you want to help, or are otherwise interested in what I'm doing, please PM me. Labeling myself has taken some time, and the bigger the training set the less biased it is and the better I can train the model. :)

I'll keep this post updated with my progress on this.

Code: [Select]
[Final] Extract posts (text) and players
[WIP] Label players - Perpetual WIP (I need more data to improve accuracy, at this stage)
[Final] Generate features from text (several ways to do it - currently tf-idf for SVM/NB/DTree and term count for NB, 1-grams, then LSA to reduce dimensionality)
[WIP] Train models based on the features, choose best one (SVM, Naive Bayes and Decision Trees).

Edit (March 21): Two people (TheDarkStar and FallocyofUrist) have currently contacted me. I'll be finishing up the specification for how forum games + labels for players would be "uploaded" to the program, based on feedback on whatever's easiest to do.

Edit (March 24): Specification is done, I have a clean pipeline built, now the bottleneck is a lack of data - lots of parameters and few points mean that I completely overfit currently. So, I'll be working on adding labeled data, and I ask for help with that. I'll post the specification in a little bit as a separate post.

Edit (April 22): So, I've been back to this as I've gotten more time on my hands. I've added some data by hand, and my algorithms are finally outputting something other than "all are town". Accuracy is bad (currently best for "all town" prediction...), so is F1 score and ROC-AUC. The bottleneck is clean data - there are tons of posts that are too short that I need to throw out, as well as noise from "in!" posts and such.
I'm contemplating a slightly different approach to deal with lack of data, but I would be really greatful if someone would help with just labeling more data. :)

Mafia / Mafia Theory: Game Structure
« on: March 10, 2016, 03:27:33 am »
So, new thread because:
- the Mafia Setup and Discussion thread is actually about setups and not the core mechanics;
- the Banter thread isn't really the place to have concise and focused discussion (:P);
- necroing old threads is anti-town behavior.

This thread is to discuss the structure of the mafia base game, i.e. what actually defines a mafia game, the object model, and later how to process game actions.
The practical purpose of all this is to (eventually) program a flexible mafia engine, along with possibly a role generator and potentially (in the long-term) even a mafia bot.

Inspired by this post by NQT and his role generator (which is text-based, as I understand).

Hello there!
Welcome to the bimillenial Shakeragian Conference!
We're gathered all here today to celebrate the start of the Shakeragian genre, style, motif - etc. etc.
As you all know... *robotic servant whispers in ear* ... yes, I see... *whispers some more* ...

Well. It seems like the Shakerag himself has come, along with his spirit(spirits?)! Most excellent.
Unfortunately, you all must've come here with different goals. However, I assure you, it is most possible to cater to everyone's needs.

Now, if you will all sign here to be admitted to your rooms, it will be swell. No admittance without signing in, I'm afraid.
Code of conduct is written right here, and in your bedrooms as well.

GAME RULES:

- This is the only Bay12 thread for this game.
- No PMing other players.
- No quoting any PM’s or QuickTopics (paraphrasing is fine).
- Votes in red (red and bold, if possible).
- When addressing a mod, please make it easy to see, i.e. like a radioactive Christmas tree or just bold.

-About answering questions:
 = In-thread: only generic ones.
= Via PM/QuickTopic: about anything that you have vision on and/or access to (your own abilities, dead players, teammates).

- Role abilities may trump the following rules:
= The mods will not lie to you, but may omit the truth.

= Shorten: requires >50% of living players to vote shorten.
 = No hammers!
= No posting at night, even if the thread is open.
= There may be post restrictions that shouldn't interfere with gameplay.

SIGN-UPS:

- Just post “In” and PM me your “secondary role”.
- The secondary role should be concrete (non-abstract); if it's not, it will either be modified to become concrete or might have a penalty associated with it.

General Discussion / Upgrading an IBM T-30
« on: May 13, 2012, 08:57:27 am »
So, this is something I started a bit ago.
I started with a refurbished T-30 laptop I got from who-knows-where.
It had a 1.6 Pentium 4 processor, 0.5 GB ram, 20 GB HDD, DVD-ROM drive, a battery that held up 30 minutes, a dock, and misc. stuff.
I added a 1 gb mini DDR-1 plank of memory (it still sees only 1 GB out of the 1.5...) and bought 2 batteries off eBay (one main, one in the UltraBay port instead of the DVD drive, though I can very easily swap between the two!).

One of the problems is the bios has a supervisor (SVP) password, which I don't know. That sucks a lot, since the only way I've seen of "hacking" it involves opening stuff up and messing with reading eeprom, which I hate doing...

My planned upgrades:
 - Buy PCMCIA cards, such as a card reader, or extended wireless + bluetooth, or USB 2.0
 - Buy a larger HDD (I saw a 250 GB one for $150 on ebay, it costs too much IMO :P)
 - Upgrade BIOS, to hopefully get the memory over 1 GB and possibly wipe the supervisor password

Just wanted to post stuff, if you know of any way to help me please reply :D

Roll To Dodge / Roll to Hack RELOADED (5/8+)
« on: November 20, 2011, 04:04:04 pm »
Code: (>_) [Select]
This is a re-done, recompiled and re-built version of Roll to Hack. There are hackers, anti-hackers, and users on a network, you try to outdo the other side.
Code: (Object of the Game) [Select]
... is to stop the other side from stopping you. :P
Hackers try to gain control of the network, anti-hackers try to rid the network of hackers, users try to not get their personal data lost/stolen.

Code: (System) [Select]
The system has been revamped from last game, partially due to gameplay and partially due to me learning about stuff.
:P

Every turn, you post a public move (network move) and a private move (localhost move). Localhost moves will be shown only to teammates/yourself, public moves are broadcast to everyone.

Moves are very freeform - if it's something that's very obscure, please provide a link (so that I could update faster :P)

Code: (Classes) [Select]
(Classes are areas of specialization)
Hardware: You can change/update/whatever your hardware quickly and easily. [hidden bonuses]
Software: You are pro at installing things and coding. [hidden bonuses]
Math: You are awesome at encrypting/decrypting stuff. [+x to en/decryption]
General: You kinda suck at everything, but you're willing to learn! [+x to learning][-1 to rolls]

Code: (Comp specs, OS, Software) [Select]
Total money: $2500+-500
Max rig cost: $1800

You can install any OS, any programs, anything on your comp, different combos get different bonuses.
Software takes time to install, try to include most of what you need beforehand. ;)
You can have more than one computer!

Also a note that you can rent servers out, instead of setting it up like the first Roll to Hack. It's based on power/programs.

Code: (Internet Protocols) [Select]
You may connect via:
 - FTP/HTTP
 - VPN
 - TelNet
 - any other one you can provide documentation :P
to another computer, with or without hacks/permission.

Gaming gives you Fun[sup]TM[/sup] points, which you can use to increase productivity later on. Gamers FTW!

Users who specify as Gamers get more of this at the cost of less startup money :P

This is a completely freeform suggestion game, you even get to suggest the starting cast!
I will be drawing/animating in Pivot :P

To start, please post some ideas of a starting cast, plotline, and possibly some needed items.
(If I do it this way, it's easier for me to update, since I don't have to, uh, make loads of stick figures every frame :P)

Current characters:
Marya May, James Beckam, Cameron Ciaz

Current plot:
Place: Industrial coastal city of Aquaris
Time: Early 22nd century
Prestory: City is quarantined, partially flooded due to "The Fall", a mysterious disaster that started during a thunderstorm. A week ago, the town's hydrodynamic reactor stopped, leaving thousands of survivors without energy and possibly food. However, deep beneath the waves, something lurks, something big...

F13 is a private investigation group that is interested in the cause of the disaster. However, money is still more important.

Welcome to Beginner's Mafia XXIV! Mint City!
Where the events of a counterattack take place.

Introduction
It's a pleasant day in the refrigerator of Mint city. The lights were of, the air was cool, and since it's the middle of winter nobody's going to eat you.
Unfortunately, the citizens are thinking otherwise.

See, a few months ago, a pair of radical scoops of mint went over to Vanillatown, trying to kill them all.
They failed, and the surviving pair of scoops of vanilla ice cream swore eternal vengeance against the scoops of mint ice cream.
They moved away from Vanillatown, waiting for the right moment to strike back.
That moment is now.

You have all assembled at mint square, where you find a pair of horribly mutilated corpses lying around.
With their green blood, somebody wrote "You will be next... D&T" next to them.

You stare at each other with horror. The Vanilla Scoops have come to kill you all.
You have to find and eliminate the Vanilla before they eliminate you!

This version of the game is aimed specifically at players who are new to Mafia, or are still relatively inexperienced. Here, it's more about having fun and learning than anything else, so don't give up hope if you find yourself in a bad position!
This Beginners' Mafia will feature playing ICs. This means that two more experienced people will join in the game to help you guys out and will actually be playing in the game. They can also be scum too, so always stay suspicious! They will not be both scum, however, and there will be one non-playing IC as well.
The ICs will never lie to you about the game mechanics though, and will usually have a special IC voice to use when they want to teach you guys, since their goal will be to get you guys ready for a real Mafia game. Just because they're playing doesn't mean you can't learn!

Don't worry about the flavor for this one, it's just there for fun :P
Darvi and I will be co-modding.

Gameplay and Concept

In Mafia, you are divided into two parts: 7 Town players and 2 Mafia players:

If you are Town, your goal is to lynch the Mafia. You do this by convincing others that one of the group is scum, and getting enough votes on them to lynch them.  The Town does not know who else is Town.

If you are Mafia, your goal is to kill off the Town until there is an equal number of them to you by getting them to lynch other Town or by killing them. You are given a kill each Night to kill any player in the game.  All the Mafia members know each other, and can communicate privately.

Each Day, everyone votes to lynch a player.  Vote for a player by posting their name in red.  You may change your vote at any time, remove your vote, or vote for No Lynch. Whoever has the most votes at the end of the day gets lynched, even if there is no majority. (Example: Nobody votes except for one guy, who votes Generic_Steve. Generic_Steve would get lynched). If you have a great deal of suspicion for someone, but don't want to vote for them just yet, point their name out in blue.

The Day will not end prematurely unless people vote to shorten the day. That is, there is no "hammer" in Beginner's Mafia, where X amount of votes (more than 50%) on a single person immediately ends the day with a lynch on that person. Some games do that, but not this one, and you would be explicitly informed in the rules if the hammer is active.

If there are tied votes for who gets lynched at the end of the day, the day ends in a no-lynch. (Two people vote for Generic_Steve, two people vote for Unassuming_Mary. Nobody gets lynched.)

Each Night, you send in your actions. The cycle continues until one side wins. Days are (at least) 72 hours and nights are (at least) 24 hours. Weekends count for zero hours.

Rules and Guidelines
  • You may not PM other players other than the mod. The mafia will have a place to talk to themselves.
  • Never edit your posts, even to fix typos!  If you make a mistake, just double post- it's permitted here. Violation of this rule can lead to deadly repercussions.  I recommend using the preview button every time you post.
  • Never quote your role PM or any other PM sent to you by the mod.
  • If you need more time to discuss, you may ask for an extension.  If more players ask for one than those who decline one, the day will be extended by 48 hours.
    • There are no limit to the number of extensions allowed per day.
  • Please don't forget about this game if you sign up! If you cannot continue playing, please ask for a replacement! I will prod you via PM if you do not post in 48 hours to remind you that this game exists!
    • Note that a Mafia game usually takes a long time to finish: two weeks at least, and sometimes even longer than a month. Be ready for this.
    • Upon receiving your second prod, you are forcibly replaced (Another player takes your place) or modkilled (removed from the game) for inactivity. Beware.
  • Upon being killed, you are entitled to one "Bah!" post, but you are not allowed to post any game-related content. After your Bah post, you MUST NOT POST AGAIN unless you somehow come back to life (impossible in this setup) or replace back in (you must have been town to do this). Failure to comply with this rule can lead to a bad reputation amongst mods, and difficulty in joining other games.
  • Never underestimate your importance, and always play to win!
In this setup, there are the possibility of extra roles. These roles are Cop and Doctor for Town, and Roleblocker and Godfather for Mafia.
  • A Cop inspects any player at Night. They are told that player's alignment, but not their role.
  • A Doctor may protect any player at Night. This stops that player from being killed.
  • A Roleblocker stops an extra role from using an action. This stops Doctors and Cops but does nothing for Townies.
    • Roleblockers do not actually discover if their attempts were successful or not; that would be too powerful because the roleblocker would know they found a town power role. It isn't an investigative role (the same goes for the Doctor)! The Mafia needs to find the town power roles the old-fashioned way: analyzing behavior and voting patterns.
    • Townies do not receive a message if they were blocked by a Mafia Roleblocker. Only a Cop or a Doctor will receive a message.
  • A Godfather, if investigated by a Cop, looks just like a normal Townie.
There is a 50% chance for any of these roles to show up. It is possible to end up with no extra roles.

Extensions require support from at least one of the players.  You may oppose extensions as well, which cancels out an extension request.  For example, if there were five players, with two requesting and two opposing, there would be no extension.  (2-2 = 0 of 5)

Along with opposing extensions, there is also the option to Shorten/End the Day. They work differently from extensions, 33% required to pass with no objections. Shortening the Day ends the Day makes the day end as quickly as I can process it. Due to the nature of these requests, they also act just like Counter-Extensions.

Please bold requests/opposition to extensions, and Mod/my name if you want to ask me a question in-thread.  (IE: Mod: I have a question!)
