about dumping... press [ t ] and go over the trade depot to see the stuff in it. press [ d ] to dump an item and +- to scroll through (I think...)

or use the mass-dump shortcut that won't work  :D

yeah, the setup looks kinda like this:

where # is wall, + is floor, D is door (optional), . is channeled out floor (NOTE: channel out AND REMOVE RAMPS TOO), V is down ramp (for access), =~ is bridge ( = is the thing that is anchored. press [ a ] when making the bridge to get it to raise left (west) )

well, first of all I meant expedition,  was thinking about caravans sorry  :-[

it actually depends on what else you do. technically the civs would be in an endless war, but if you kill someone from your own civ that should negate it. but anyways, why not try  ;)

hehehe I just wiped out the ONLY kobold civilization on the (small) map, only to be pushed into a 10-urist fall into water by the LAST SURVIVOR! damn.

You can... wipe them out? That's... AMAZING. I didn't know that kobolds even had sites.. how did you do it?
yeah, they live in caves. I just went in there and killed any who tried to come up. I even led a bronze colossus in there and got it stuck (webbed and can't unstuck) in the path to the surface. I then proceeded to kill off everyone but one. damn.

I checked, it has no leaders, is their anyway to make it get leaders x.x
No.  Your civ is dead.  Your dwarves are the last in the world.  If you want to have a viable external dwarven civilization, you need to start over with a new world.
well, unless for some reason you survive and get a ginormous population (over 200 I think) you won't get any leader. however you might get a king if you do. do it, for !!science!!

Mobile turrets/ranged siege engines are a must too, I mean having a coal powered ballista, with an artifact engine, that moves at the same speed as a running dwarf would be AWESOME!  With turrets, you could have 2-4 dwarves powering the machine itself, via animals, coal, steam ect.  While another few up top fire upon enemies, and the machine itself could have damage-able parts, that would protect the inner occupants until they were destroyed, but the dwarves could count as 'internal parts' where an extremely powerful attack (another siege engine) would still hurt the dwarves.  That could mean that a machine made from steel would be nearly invulnerable, but really slow, whereas wood would be really quick, but able to be damaged by even foot soldiers.
well yeah. especially with ballistae that fire up/down z-levels. actually the whole thing is vulnerable to building destroyers  :D so good luck.

Problem with tanks is that toady has said a few times he didn't want DF to rise past the generic fantasy techlevel, with the guideline of 1400 and no further.(I think he generally didn't want explosives either).

Tanks, even da vinciesque are past that point :s
I remember hearing about experiments with steam during the Ancient Greek times. it was only a toy, but that's because they didn't have literal TONS of coal and giant casters of steel. of course, our steam/coal engines would be MASSIVELY INEFFECTIVE. so you'd have to "refuel" that tank once in a (short?) while (however floating forts with built-in food and tree farms is obvious)

explosives would be triggered on-site... WELL lets not derail the thread...

well I just took out a whole kobold civ, the only one on the (small) map, and didn't find anyone else.

THEN A DAMN KOBOLD, THE LAST ONE (legends) kicked me in the shin and I FELL DOWN 5 z-levels an drowned in water, along with the load of DB I was carrying...

...yeah.

P.S. There's a bronze colossus waiting stranded in a pond murky pool  :D

yeah, the support acts as a wall. that i THINK you can move through... anyways. if 1 tile there is supported then the whole thing stays up... yeah.

try it, you can actually even use a constructed floor tile to make sure it doesn't fall until ready.

(and, later you can kill off an annoying idiot by having him remove the floor, but this is not recommended if said idiot has friends)

I would like the option of being able to start a colony through adventurer. Except that you would need to gather 7 dwarves actually, but you can carry anything you want. the guys come with equipment, so when dwarf sites get fixed that should DEFINITELY become an option.

also narrative is great! those with a good eye can easily get clues for Legends
