DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Perfect Embark (Genisis Mod)

Haunted desert with normal Ocean, magma pipe and Fairground(Zombie Ents and zombie Strong deeps inhabit) at 3rd cavern. At war with snake men and demons.
Western qaurter of the map has no aquifers, southwest has a single map tile of coast/ocean, and a river.  217 z's of earth with only 5 z's above ground.  Site is Platnum rich, and has coal (didn't look for flux).

Also does anyone have an region with hostile Orcs?

DF Gameplay Questions / Lava hiccup or am I doing it wrong?

Ok, just dug down to a magma tube, I have breached the tube at the side to create a lava fuel room.  I have a room above with channeled holes to the magma room.  I try to create magma smelters and forges... but what is this... they are not available to construct.  Unsure if I have run into a glitch or if I am doing it wrong, I usually have no problems getting the magma industry up...

I had 1 military dwarf... he managed to eliminate all threats to my fortress from pesky badgers to Forgoten Beasts... then was quickly Decapitated by a pesky yet dangerous Frost Wyrm (Deon's Genisis Mod).  He gave it the standard pounding then out of the blue... "The Frost Wyrm claws The Militia Commander in the head with her left front claw and the severed part sails off in an arc!"  "Doren Storlutudil Hammer Lord has been struck down"

So what is the floor Item that keeps the Building destroyers from traveling up your cavern well access, the Grate doesn't allow the well to access the water.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Weird Bugs

I am starting to get really weird bugs after a fort survives for 20 years.

First, my food stockpiles failed.  I checked all options nothing was disabled, I saved, restarted, loaded and all was fine.

Second, I had a dog Freeze to death in the kitchen. The Biome is hot, and it happened 2z's underground.

Third, Ambushes now appear to run to the edge of the map after discovery, just as thieves do.

I posted the first on the bug-tracker but was told to reopen if I could recreate.  I doubt I can reliably recreate any of these.

Anyone else experiencing anything else that falls under weird that isn't world gen?

DF Gameplay Questions / Keeping prepared food out of the booze pile?

This has been bothering me for a while now.

Is there any way to keep the cooked food out of stockpiles with barrels enabled?

I know that prepared food isn't an option in the stock screen so it just goes anywhere that food is enabled.  Unfortunately everytime I create a new booze pile the dwarves presume I want the prepared food barreled and stored there....

Since Internet Kraken's post got locked, I'm going to dedicate this thread to Townbrush.  It's better than several of the great stories, same setting, just better.

DF Gameplay Questions / Broken Bugged Siege

I have approximately 40 routing goblins who won't leave the map.  The leader got decapitated by a trap.  Any advice for removing the rest from the map? I have a volcano and river to work with. They also run from my war elephants. There are to many for my military to kill without losing my troops.  The goblins will path to kill kittens but will not move for much else.

DF Gameplay Questions / Dwarven Teleportation Breaks

I have had this happen multiple times, but this was the first time I watched it happen.  I'm just looking at my newly completed Entrance tower when my fisherdwarf just strolls in.  I check his status, "on break", I think "Ok, this must be his favorite spot". I resume and he appears on the roof of the tower which has no access... Bugs me considerably... now I have to build a staircase for him to come down at his leisure.

Should I leave the stairs or deconstruct?  How often do dwarves teleport to inaccessible locations?  Why does his favorite spot have to be the top of the tower?

Do you know what sucks about having so much power? Only being able to use 1/12th of the power due to no hyperthreading.  I hope that Toady will eventually implement hyperthreading, FPS death would be a thing of the past...

So I started a fortress where my parent civ was at war with the goblins, after about 5 years I'm at peace with them.  I assume this is a bug as diplomacy doesn't work in fortress mode atm.  The thieves still show up, but the ambushes and sieges have stopped.  I have done 0 modding.  I think that modding them to be at war may be my only fix...

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Dwarves still in abandoned fortress

I'm not sure if this normally happens.

I abandoned the fortress so I could explore it in adventure mode. When I arrive it looks like the usual abandon with junk scattered everywhere.  When I go Inside I find several of my dwarves and the liason just still hanging out, and a gem setter strangling a monkey.  The population was 200+ so it looks like the majority left. All of my animals were dead, as it normally is.

Anyhow just surprised to see dwarves just hanging out still...
