Roll To Dodge / Chain RtD
« on: November 10, 2013, 09:57:01 pm »
Basically, each person rolls for the action of the person above them, then posts an action.

One character. That makes things simpler, and easier for people to enter or join on a whim. Please update the status spoiler if anything changes.

Any style you like.

Example Turn:
Quote from: Xantalos
[3] Sadly, you only get half of the car.

Drive demicar through a supermarket!

[6] You do so, crashing through it. Turns out, you can't drive through fruit carts as easily as you can in the movies.

Remove fruit residue from demicar.

And now, we begin.

Roll To Dodge / Naga versus Toronto: Name Pending
« on: November 04, 2013, 11:50:25 pm »
Main thread here.

Greetings, Bay12. As you may know, I am running a roleplay based on wildbow's excellent web serial Worm. It is about superheroes and -villains, and one girl who tries for the first before plunging headlong into the latter. It's worth a read.

Anyways, in that RP, a Terror (AU!Endbringer, basically a kaiju with superpowers for non-Worm-readers) is attacking! As the title indicates, the Terror is Naga, the fifth and final Terror to appear. It is a hydrokinetic serpent sixty feet long. Its most terrifying attack is its ability to ignore the Manton Effect when within around 30 feet, although the exact radius is unknown. Basically, get close enough and your blood gets ripped from your body. Oh, and Naga is also going to be pounding those farther away with blobs of water, and incidentally bludgeoning Toronto with waves of a kind not seen in the Great Lakes since it attacked Chicago, and never before then.

Against this kind of threat, superheroes and -villains from across North America and the world converge to try and drive the beast away before it can kill everyone. Helping this process are a number of massive underground shelters in Toronto and other major cities, but this is not where you come in. Where you come in is as the parahumans attacking Naga or defending the city.

Now, for those of you already in the RP, great! Your prework is done. You can start playing once we start. For the rest: Time to get to creating characters!
The process of creating characters will not be simple...from my end. From yours, it's basically answering some questions.
Character selection will NOT end once the game begins! The fight against Naga will include constant reinforcements from heroes and such around the country showing up late to the "party."
Spoiler: Character Creation (click to show/hide)

Those interested in sticking around in Toronto afterwards (to an extent) have another option: They can create characters, but have them trigger during the attack rather than before. Waitlisters in the main RP, if you want to do this just submit the cape and trigger event (see below), and link to your original submission. There we go--you're ready! If you were not, simply submit a new character sheet.

Spoiler: Application (click to show/hide)

Alright then. This is a lot of stuff. Any questions or issues?

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Save the Date: Bay12 Edition
« on: October 29, 2013, 11:00:28 am »
I was playing Save the Date for a while earlier. I've been through it around 50 times and gotten pretty much every ending. It's not a cheerful game, but it does get philosophical at times.

So. Here it is: A forum version of the same. It's a suggestion game, where you try to go through a date without disaster occurring.

General Discussion / Requesting Diplomacy Advice
« on: October 04, 2013, 08:30:47 am »
I probably should have done this before losing Tuscany, Livonia, and Prussia, but whatever.

I am playing an online game of Diplomacy where I am close to winning. Unfortunately, my clever attempts to try and break the stalemate always lead to losses on my end. Anyone have any advice on how to A. drive the French out of territory I rightfully conquered, B. drive the Russians out of their territory I rightfully conquered, or C. break the stalemate once it is re-established?

We have a trope page now! Whoo!

For those of you who don't know, Worm is a web serial about Taylor Herbert, a normal (if shy) high school girl who happens to have gained the ability to control bugs and intends to become a superhero. (Thanks to dermonster for pointing this story out.)

An idea I've had for a while now is to set an RP in a setting similar to but different from wildbow's Brockton Bay. Recently, Unholy_Pariah (who I introduced to Worm through a convoluted route starting with wanting his ER character to be able to climb walls) and I were talking about Worm, and he mentioned that he wanted to play Roll to Super (a pretty-well-dead and somewhat out-of-control RtD of mine), except in Brockton Bay. I mentioned my idea to him; I decided to finally get around to it.

This game would center on a number of parahumans; I'd like five, but I can be fairly flexible. If a dozen signups come my way I'm taking the best five or so, but if only six or maybe seven signed up I'd take them all. They would all be in one city, but might be on different teams (unless this turned out to be impractical; I can imagine that running, say, the Wards, Undersiders, E88, ABB, New Wave, and Merchants at once for a PC in each would get unwieldy). Waitlisters would exist; when one PC died or something, another cape could take his/her place. I might even let additional waitlisters in if I was feeling generous.

Now, then. There are two things to consider: Your characters and the setting. If you want to join, please submit a character sheet and a Setting Suggestion Sheet.

Suboption description goes here.

A note on the game system: It's a pretty generic d20 system, save for the crits. A 1, 2, or modified 3 will be a Major Failure, with results past the typical. On the other hand, a 19, 20, or modified 18 is a Major Success. These carry over to varying extents even if the actions "succeeded" or "failed". Even if your bonus is somehow high enough to succeed on a 1 (probably by doing a really simple task), the task will have a bad side effect; even if you fail on a 20, things will turn out alright.
I reserve the right to alter the system at any time. However, major alterations will be noted in-thread, and the current rules will be listed in one of the posts below.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / You Are Dead--A Reverse Suggestion Game
« on: September 15, 2013, 07:50:25 am »
You have died.

Who were you? (Name, gender, age. Nothing more needed.)
How did you die? (Proximate cause-of-death--eg, "Drowned" not "Thrown into the bay after making a bad deal with the Mafia".)

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Mages of All Worlds: A Gaiden Thread

The world is empty.

This is intended as a "Gaiden Thread" for the Rise of the Magic Girls and Twilight Academy games. They're a lot better than they sound. I, personally, wouldn't mind if you brought in mages from other forum games.

Roll To Dodge / General Warning
« on: August 06, 2013, 10:57:04 pm »
I posted this in the main FGaR subforum, but decided you deserved an abbreviated version. Full version can be found in the sig.

I'm going to be starting college soon and expect a big decrease in the amount of free time I'll be having. I'm going to cut back in what is frankly the least important and most overdone parts of my time budget: Bay12.

Important bits:
I'm dropping all games I'm running. If the author of the game is GreatWyrmGold and the game isn't dead, it's on hiatus. The exception is maybe Super-RtD, which is fun and easy to run, but don't expect almost-daily updates like I've been giving you even on vacation.
I'm trying not to join new games. I probably won't even look at them. If you see or start one you think I should or would like to join, please PM me. Otherwise, I'll probably miss it.
I'm not leaving. I'll be here, I'm coming back.

Finally...well...
Thanks for everything, Bay12, but I can't spend as long steeped in this madness as a beacon of sanity as I'd like. And it's more than it sounds. You guys are horrible, often, but hilarious and sometimes uplifting. If it wasn't for you, I'd probably have rewatched Slayers or reread all of my old books or something this summer instead of doing new things, getting new ideas, finding Worm, getting inspired to write a story I've started and several I haven't. Thanks, and bear with me as you bear with those of lesser--what's the word...prominence? presence? obsession? Bear with me like you do them, and have fun without me.

MISSINGDATA: ARGH! What...what is this?

This is a trap. An excellent one, I might add; I've grown rather fond of it. A wee bit more collateral damage than intended, though.

MISSINGDATA: Whatever it is, it won't stop me!

Who are you, anyway? This is the first time anyone's ever managed to get to this trap...

Before you can answer this question, you must know a bit about the world.
Spoiler: Loredump (click to show/hide)

A while ago, I wanted to create an illustrated RPG-type game, inspired in part by TWoOtA. I began planning things...and planning them...I started in February or March, planned off-and-on, had the races and maps complete by May or so...
I realized I was probably putting too much thought into this. And since TWoOtA is dead, a low-thought game wouldn't be competing with freeform's work. (No offense intended.)

So.

You need to design your hero.

Roll To Dodge / 2D Tribe
« on: June 28, 2013, 10:54:21 pm »
You are a tudy, a species of little translucent creatures. They are herbivorous, using mouthparts with little "blades" on the end to bite off chunks of food. On either side of their mouths is a pair of little dextrous tendrils, moved by filling or emptying small chambers separated by little valves and lined with nerves. They have an incomplete gut and move themselves by wiggling their short, thick bodies, and can "jet" by emptying their stomachs; however, they mostly drift in currents.

They are also intelligent and two-dimensional.

Your little band of six tudies has found what they think might be a good long-term home. There is a little forest of kilp to the left, with some little tems to the right and with the kilp forest. It's also close enough to the surface that there will be plenty of life, but at the bottom so that there is shelter from the current. On the subject of shelter, there is the most important characteristic of the area: A cave. Caves provide shelter from all sorts of predators, and the muck many have is the place where bown--a slow-growing plantlike stalk that only grows in cave muck and that is the best tool-handle material. It's a great spot for a home.

-----

Tudy Claiming/Wait Listing Sheet:
Name: Tudy names are composed of sounds a human can make without the tongue, due to their lack of a similar organ.
Personality: How your tudy reacts to various situations.
Distinctive Traits: What makes you look different from normal. (Be reasonable.)
Agility: A stat which determines how well you dodge.
Cleverness: A stat which determines how well your tiny brain works.
Dexterity: A stat which determines how well you can use your tendrils.
Endurance: A stat which determines how well you how well you can deal with extended periods of exertion.
Toughness: A stat which determines how many HP you have.
Strength: A stat which determines how much damage you deal.

You have 15 points to spend on Stats. Each must be at least 1 and cannot be above 5.
