"I don't...um...I'll go swimming if you do, but I'd prefer not to. We can lie on the beach, though." Nuriel lies down, patting the sand next to her.

15002
"That worked remarkably well!"

Try to make the ship fly. Also try to locate a map, electronic or otherwise, that will help us figure out where to go next. Then try to gather the group, with Kicks of Authority and/or ending the duel if needed.

"Alright, group. Where do we go next?"

((Ninja caused in part by inexplicable technical issues.))

Smashy returns to the Cockpit and offers a chunk of cooked human meat to M'ber and Thingy, before eating one himself. "So where this ship go?"
"My thoughts exactly. One moment." M'Ber takes the meat.
"What is this, anyways?"

((Uh... Selina and Delphinium left the room before ll the mass drama happened...))
Oh?

I don't think you'll have a chance to do that. Piasa should be
able to restrain you for the next five or ten minutes, and after
that...
(Bay12 really needs an evil grin smiley.)

Realistically i should be free within a minute or two because with each "push" another couple of inches of my body should phase into the floor enhancing my ability to pull even mor of myself in.

And bay12 already has one >:D
Noted. I wonder why it isn't in the little line of smileys on the posting page.

Even 40 things hitting you with a minimum of one damage a hit is usually fatal :P
Thank the kobold for the DR 1/magic.

I'm looking at this from an IC perspective. One of the people riding along with us has apparently jumped off and ran into the jungle without a word to anyone. We can either stop and put everyone at risk for one person, or keep going and get on with the job we were hired to do.

What I mean is, a canoe is a democracy-I own a pair of paddles and I vote we keep rowing.

If Orgarr wants to stop and catch up with us later to pick you up, that's fine. I'm sure nothing bad will happen to you...
Note to self: Never go canoeing with your character.

"Hey Steffan, this reminds of that summer in Mariliath! Remember? That one time? With the spitting imps? You tried to talk to them too, remember what happened?"
You got chopped into little pieces due to fighting an enemy for parties more than 10 levels higher than you?

((Night))

Selina rushes to her room and gets dressed in a very conservative bathing suit before following Nuriel... Also of note, her hair grew back fully after the mass heal from DR!

They go to the beach.
Selina is there, blushing nervously, not sure what to do. Did they lie on the sand for a bit, go swimming right away? She was so nervous! (2400)
Nuriel's gaze is mostly on Selina, waiting for her to do something, but every several seconds she glances at the water.

Convinced that the forcefields would fail due to the manton effect after digging a short way into his body Steven redoubles his efforts to sink into the floor and begins reforming his body inside it.
It's not entering your body, it's fragmenting your body as you force it onto it. Basically, the force field is a bit of repulsive force along a plane; you are managing to apply more force to the bits of body than the strength of the things holding those bits of your body onto you can have.

What you're saying is the forcefield will stop existing because your body used to be there. "Used" being the key word here. It isn't there anymore.))
Another way to look at it.

((Depending on where your core is, you could simply veer a bit so that the forcefield doesn't destroy it.

What you're saying is the forcefield will stop existing because your body used to be there. "Used" being the key word here. It isn't there anymore.))
Im not sure if my character even has a core... ill have to get GWG to pm me about that.
Define "core," but I'm guessing the answer will be "Not as far as Steven knows. Not that he wants to test it."

He struck copper and is attempting to use nuclear warheads to mine it, to continue the 'dig yourself a hole' terminology.
Yup. More or less.

Your terminology gave me a bone and im running with it, although id say that im still within the realm of C-4 at the moment.

The nukes would come out when i crack the shits at GWG for constantly restraining my character and begin tearing holes in the buildings structural supports so that they cant lock me up anymore.
I don't think you'll have a chance to do that. Piasa should be able to restrain you for the next five or ten minutes, and after that...

"I'm...sorry about the unexpected trauma from one of our Wards' guests. Um, moving along. Now, we must move into the speculative. These new recruits are, with one exception, largely unknowns. We do not know their personalities, perhaps not their powers, sometimes not even the names they call each other. To start..."
The picture on the screen changes to three. Two are of large figures, lumpy, like a cross between a clod of dirt and a humanoid form. They have no legs or heads, thick arms, and a large mound of dirt for a body. The third is a grainy picture of a person wearing brown and white.
"We are calling this one Grave. He is a terrakinetic, a Master and Shaker. These creations are strong and tough, but Grave can only maintain one or two at a time. He can also cause similarly-sized disturbances in the earth, creating pits or mounds. Fighting him in parks and other areas with large amounts of soil is dangerous, but doing so in city streets may be safer. This image is believed to be Grave; the figure was found in the background of one of the shots of the attack on the country club yesterday. It is believed that his main limitation on range is line of sight."

He switches to the next image, a small child with long hair. She--for the child looks more like a girl than a boy, although it is hard to tell--is wearing a simple white mask and a white body suit with a large black shape from her shoulders, narrowing as it goes down to her stomach.
"This one was called Jaw by Skull, we heard that much. She was constantly in contact with Skull, making us think she has some sort of Trump or perhaps Striker power. Aside from this, we know little--even the she is not known for certain. Jaw's age is estimated at seven or eight. It is unknown how she came to be part of the Bones."

The image changes yet again, to two of a teenaged boy surrounded by shards of force field. The one on the left is clear; he is wearing a red zippered sweatshirt over a yellow T-shirt and jeans; neither the clothes nor the boy had been washed in a while. The one on the right is blurrier, but he looks a bit cleaner from what you can tell. He has also replaced his T-shirt and jeans with a white bodysuit, although he still has a red zippered sweatshirt.
"Fang, the new recruit to the Bones who we have the most information on. He was an independent villain who joined the Bones for unknown reasons, probably between a couple weeks and a month ago. Those force fields his power generates are capable of penetrating flesh, but that is perhaps the least of your worries. When they stab or cut a parahuman, Fang gains an approximation of that parahuman's power or powers for a period of time. He is skilled in coming up with new strategies on the fly, with hit-and-run tactics, and with figuring out how to use your own tactics against you. Do not underestimate him. Recall that in May, he caused the death of Torchblast, an independent hero, despite Torchblast's greater range and the fact that Torchblast ambushed him in a sealed warehouse. Moreover, Fang could be hiding tricks up his sleeve. About six weeks ago, he startled the Protectorate when he used his shards at range, whereas he had only used them within a half-meter of himself before. For all we know, there could be another trick he is hiding up his sleeve, beware.

"Finally, we have two hypothetical villains with the Bones. First is one who can create projections; a PRT officer reported seeing a ghostly image of an eye looking over his shoulder, which winked out before he could react. Another reported seeing a ghostly hand pushing papers under a door, after hearing about the previous report; the same day this incident occurred, several records on local capes went missing. More about this cape is unknown, except that he or she began operations within the past few days at most. Second, it is believed that a second tinker is working with the Bones, due to the wider array and greater amount of Tinker gear being produced and used by the Bones."

Argonaut pauses again, hoping no one else has a nervous breakdown.

The things didn't even scratch us in the first attack.  How dangerous can a quick scouting be?
How dangerous indeed...
Sometimes, it's the little things—used well—that count.

((You guys were chatty last night. :P))

I'm just assuming that I'm basically on my own little mini campaign at the moment, cause I really can't see myself working with any other PC.
Heh. My original idea involved letting everyone do their own thing, like if the PCs were (say) Skitter, Tattletale, Panacea, Chariot, Miss Militia, and Stormtiger.
Thank Scion I didn't go down that path of madness...

Ignoring the non-existant pain steven forces himself deeper into the floor allowing the forcefields to cut into his body as he does so.
[12] He begins to force himself downwards a little, the force fields cutting into his crotch.
"I don't think you can survive being cut in half vertically, moron." Piasa doesn't even look up from her book.

"R-r-r-r-rest..." Selina is trying to calm down, literally shaking in fear... then realizes she could have also ended up like Humerus, prisoner conditioned to forever serve her convaluted master... She curled up into a ball in terror.

Emotions: 1/1 Terror
"You okay, Selina?"

((Sorry about inactivity on this thread, kinda hard to stay interested atm, shoulda just had Matt become a Hero off the bat))

Matthew Goes for a walk
((He'll have an opportunity for heroics soon enough.))
Matthew can't shake that feeling of dread. If he was superstitious, he'd be certain that something was going to happen.
Even as it is, not much would surprise him.

((Oh, and you guys are making me really want to spend lots of time reading the first epilogue this morning when I should put it off until later.))

((Victoria, due to being overloaded with blushing and embarassment is under the impression that well, the chains are related to:))
"*sigh* Here." She throws a book about Bondage to Victoria.

((...I think I have that used right but I don't even want to think about it.))
"Oh..." Victoria finally realizes what Not!Selina wanted her to do and what she was talking about. "...Is that why people formed trade unions?"
((I'm sure. I was making a joke that I'm ~60% sure Cado, Xantalos, and a few others got.))

"Y-y-yes... er... a-a little w-weired out th-though..." Selina slowly gets out of the chains.
The chains are retracted.

*kick*
One of Alan's fists strikes Darnos before retracting.
Angel glares at Alan, who does not visibly notice, and at Darnos, who does not visibly care..

Isaac reads his book.
((Nicely done, given all the madness happening right in front of him, since I clearly stated Angel lead Alan to Isaac.))

"That's probably not too healthy to call that the usual... Meanwhile, I feel like I'm slowly turning more insane, but maybe that's just my mind fucking with me."
Angel goes over to Isaac and gives him a hug to try and comfort him.
Isaac and Angel are swiftly bound by a number of chains winding around them as Alan tries to...well, you assume he's trying to hug Isaac.

"Eh. If it gets any worse, sure. Then again, it might just be a self check up and me seeing that my personality has changed since I've came here."
Isaac stands up.
"Although, I should get some sleep. I've had a lack of it since we've went to the Labyrinth..."
Isaac says his farewells and goes to his room to sleep
((And now I go to sleep as well.))
With Angel's help, he escapes Alan's grasp. The chains again return to his arms.

-snip-
Considering that a cannon-ball has more force...I'm fairly certain we can wreck a ship, or at least cripple it, pretty damned easy. Over and over again, too.
It can, but it wouldn't be efficient. Especially since the rods are kinda stationary.
Although I'd like to see you try to take on Kre!aqil in an underwater fight. Ten gold says he can hold his breath longer than you.

On items one and three: At the very start, the actually facilities of the town (Farmland, Workshops, a Dock, Beds, A Kitchen ect) will be nice to have, even if we don't get totally loyal citizens to come with them. So long as we keep enough order to ensure our saftye while we are around I'm fine. Later on, when we are ready to develop the place, we can come up with more drastic measures to contain or replace the locals.
You intend to sleep and stuff in a town where people hate us because we keep invading their inn and taking their food?

Quote
On item 2: NPC crew hirelings are rather expendable. Tensions between any crew left behind and the locals will keep our crew too busy to plot against us I would hope. If they end up getting killed it is no huge loss. Ideally we can also interview the crew ICly to find the right folk to leave behind.
Note the "sufficiently powerful and loyal" clause. Weak hirelings won't have much willingness or ability to protect the town for us.

Quote
Hrrmm... Regarding your expert, how effective would a dude with points in Profession Surgeon, but none in Heal or UMD, be at keeping us all alive?
Less than an actual healer.

It's also what makes Warlocks more broken at level 12 than Wizards are at level 20. UMD check to pretend to have the spells to craft anything(DC 15+spell for arcane, 25+spell level dor divine). They can take ten. Oh, yeah, and UMD boosting magic items. So, yeah. +15 from skill ranks alone means you can get epic level arcane spells from the get-go on scrolls. Another +4 or +5 easily from Charisma, maybe a few more minor bonuses from Skill Focus (Use Magic Device) or synergy, etc., and most divine spells are easy. Now you have the Chalice of Aura Impersonation, which gives a +10 to UMD checks. And is completely made up, but nonetheless. So now you get to cast 20th+ level arcane spells and 15th+ divine spells, from scrolls. Or hell, sell 'em. Huge profit in making god-level power fit on a tiny parchment.
You can't just make up magic items. And I'm 90% certain that UMD clearly states magic items don't help.
Anyways...epic scrolls? That's an awfully high XP-cost-per-encounter. Anyone spending that much might as well be allowed to, he's going to be dropping into the negative levels if he keeps that up.

"Dishonorable CURS! The bow is a coward's weapon!"
If by "coward" she means "tactician," yes.

Kalnaf let's his draconic lineage creep into his voice.  "Stand fast!  Their blows sting less than they appear!"  (Swift Action: Activate Toughness aura; allies within 60 feet gain DR 1/magic.)
Amusingly, that makes it sound like he's convincing them that the arrows don't hurt. How would he deal with a troll ripping on of their arms off?
"ARGH MY ARM!"
"It's alright, your arm doesn't hurt that much, see you can still hold your shield and everything!"

Leaving aside the fact that they could well have composite bows, and the fact that there are an unknown number in ambush, do we really want to be beginning hostilities with a group we're going to have to pass every time we move up or down the river? Plus the fact that someone had the power to awaken them in the first place?
Tucker's Kobolds spring to mind...
Well, a few points.
1. It is possible (although far from certain) that these are a natural species of monkey.
2. They lack the strength to properly use composite bows to their full efficacy. Assuming they are simply smart monkeys, with Tiny shortbows, they would be dealing 1d4-4 damage per arrow. (If they aren't...well, the possibilities are too endless to guess.)
3. No, you don't want to bother them.

Think there might be some money involved in slaughtering them?
No, there wouldn't be.

I feel I should point it out; didn't some of you have a task to bring back curious examples of wildlife?

Well I think that's just a kind of ongoing thing if we happen to stumble across any. I'm not going to volunteer to leap out the boat and wade across twenty feet of piranha filled brown river to wrestle a tiny monkey who wants to shoot me.
I could probably try. I'm not even sure I could drown in it.
You could if you tried hard enough.

(( That's the weight of the shell, not the size of the nuke. I think. The standard shells are non-nuclear, I know that much, so I assume that is the weight of the shell, which would be... no, way higher than that... how dense is this shell XD? Pretty sure the yield of the nuclear ammo hasn't been specified yet. Perhaps PW means for that to be the yield of the nuclear ammo? Because dear lords is that ludicrously heavy otherwise.))
((Um, when the choices are "This is the nuclear yield of the shell" and "The shells weigh more than two blue whales, each," it's probably the yield. For reference, Tsar effing Bomba weighed barely over a tenth of that.))

"Shh, you'll jinx it.  I intend for us all to live through this mission.  Jim, don't start talking about how you've got a girl back home waiting for you, I'm not dragging your carcass back if you get killed.  At least none of us are on their last mission before retiring..."
((Don't even think of Feyri. To be on the safe side, don't think of Grate or how he looks up to both of you like ad hoc vaguely parental figures.))
