Just get rid of the "garbage zone" feature.  Problem solved.  The bigger issue is the sheer amount of rock that needs to be handled and the absurdity of it all.
1. Garbage zones are useful for more than quantum stockpiles.
2. Garbage zones are no longer the easiest way to quantum stockpile.

Quantum stockpiles are an issue that will, eventually, be solved; they're very low-priority.

Torches shouldn't be good sources of illumination. They should, however, be used as illumination. The OP's claim that torches were never used as lighting is absurd; what does he think people used as lighting before they had lanterns? Torches are as old as fire, and fire isn't quite as useless as he claims for illumination (speaking from my own experience). They're not great, but if it's a choice between them and a pitch-black darkness, I'll take the torch.

In short, while I disagree with the OP's arguments, I partly agree with his point.

Ooh boy. Lots of issues here.
Firstly: The 1400's date is a cutoff--nothing from after that is "allowed", but not everything before that is instantly in.
Secondly: Pipes with water in them and such are planned. The game is incomplete. Don't expect 0.34.11 to be the be-all-end-all list of features. It's 0.34 because it's about 34% complete.
Thirdly: This game isn't a commercial enterprise. It's a work of art that Toady's glad he's getting paid for. Don't have the same expectations of him as you would from Valve or EA. This is a whole different animal.

Explosives make fortifications obsolete. Fortifications are a big part of the game.
That's relative to the sizes of the explosives and the fortifications. Dwarves turn whole mountains into their fortifications. The goblins would need to be pretty far away if they wanted to survive blowing up dwarven fortifications...

The biggest problem is enforcing the prophecy. It's all well and good that the prophet says Oedipus will kill his father and marry his mother, but what to do when the player burns Thebes and slaughters its inhabitants before Oedipus can get there?

The druids in this case are just priests.

They aren't dungeons and dragons magic wielders with the power of nature at their command.
Same with clerics. Also, wizards don't exist. There is no reason to think either of those is permanent.
Unless Toady has said otherwise, of course. Still, I'd expect at least some druids to be magical.
