Kyle looks concerned as he goes over to inspect Angel.
"She did remember that I always carry salt and a sacntified machete right?"
Angel's...well, she's better than Seham. Good thing Conny's here though.

((so no actual fight?))
((Technically, there was a fight. But as for rolling it out...well, Seham has at least ~100 demons of varying strength in his army, and while not all of them are here, combining those with his human soldiers, plus all our different and not always permissive schedules...))

"Thanks. Now, well, this is kind of a slaughter in here, so it would be best you retreat."

ICARUS kicks another demon out of the way and tosses the bracelet at Nuriel

"Catch!"
Angel gets the bracelet.

How much would functional synthflesh wings cost, PW?
Or nonfunctional/shield-only wings plus some other way to fly.

Just putting it out there, anyone interested in a public word-list? Just putting the idea out there, I'm curious about this mythical "pattern" and science is taking a while. Feel free to yay or nay, just metering public opinion.
As a member of the largest team, we're pretty sure that the "pattern" isn't something that'll show up until we've discovered enough of the words that it won't really help.

Solution: Persuade someone from the Celestial Realm (i.e the gods) to intervene.
When Seham was planning his plan, no one from outside that world and maybe Hell would be involved; I don't imagine that either demons or people unaware of gods' existence would be too likely to call on them.
By the time everyone else got involved, Celestial Realm beings are hardly the worst thing he'd have to deal with.

Also magi are rare. If people heard mages were being paid off then everyone would start witch hunts. And nothing can save a mage from crazy zealots. And that would ruin that part of the plan. And of course they probably have nukes so...
1. Ever hear of a place called Salem? What the hell makes you think these witch hunts would actually kill the magic people more often then not? Or even have a 90% success rate? Besides, they're just hamstringing themselves if they can't use any magic either, so win-win.
2. Nuke their own cities. Right, that'll look good to everyone. And you say that like there's no way for magic (and Seham was pretty good with it) to protect against nukes.

Can someone please explain to me what the fuck is up with Wall Street or something? Just something quick to get me up to speed on what is up with all of these references in the ooc I'm seeing but not/barely in the ic.
It's a force that can exchange stuff based on monetary value. I think.

And why would magicians join him? They have every reason to band together and betray him after all. And why is he the only one with a portal? Presumably it would be just as easy to make one to where Seham doesn't expect on the world. Also, Detroit could beat back hell.
Everyone has their price. Besides, it's the Prisoner's Dilemma. Sure, if everyone banded against Seham they could possibly overthrow him, but A. they don't know each other, B. they can't trust that everyone else will join Seham, and C. the magicians are scattered thin enough over the world that banding together is simply impractical.
In theory, perhaps. But then, they could do that to him in Hell, and much more easily. No matter how you look at it, it's better than staying at home.
Ha ha.

Conny looks at Nuriel, then collapses, unconsious.

"And this is why we let the fairy rest and not leave her and me alone for 2 hours. Do you and Angel want to be separate?"

"If we could, it would be nice. It would also be nice if I was a god."

"Well, I guess Nuriel takes in Seham. And I'd advise you kill him."
Nuriel blasts Seham, who diverts it.
"I think I understand demonic magics a bit better than you. And you're bound not to harm me with your hand."
"...Damn. And...wait, what?" Nuriel turns her head to the side, then nods.
"I'll be damned, the brat's got a good idea." Nuriel flies up a bit, then comes back, flying at extreme speed towards Seham, accelerated by wings and flame. At the last second, she turns into Angel, who slams into Seham.
((Because it's a lot cooler than just having Nuriel burn him or something.))

On that note, do us folks who submitted non-Ascendant sheets need to make new sheets to have a chance at being Ascendants or will you be adapting the old ones to Ascendants?

((You don't have spell check on your computer?
And that doesn't change that I thought it was a good game. It's definently not WoW repetitive. Which is about the baseline of my standards.))

Mushrooms have a conflicted nature. Animals have conflicts in nature. Therefore Mushrooms are animals.
((I do, but it doesn't know what mycelium are.
And I don't really like games that you can complete in a few hours, and further replays are pretty much the same thing.))

Kiljoule Proton is cliche. Kiljoule Proton makes no sense. Therefore, cliches are nonsensical.

As those of you who read the general KSP thread may know, I had some problems with the game not wanting to load any saves. I fixed this...but only by deleting all my saves.

So. We're starting from scratch.

Again.

...I'm kinda tired of this. Anyone mind if I hack our way to having as much Science as we did before the game broke?

That only happens if competent people happen.
...Your plan is flawless.

2397
No, I mean, we didn't have any reason to think he was on the last stage of the plan.
The "vanishes and doesn't come back" should have been a hint that something was up.
And you know what? He wasn't on his last step. He had a few left. He had time to hack the ritual together and bug out.
Come to think of it, why does he need a ritual? As in, lore-wise, has anyone come up with an actual reason for why magic uses rituals, runes and whatnot along with when it is actually required? Or is it one of those futile questions such as why the power of Wall Street is influenced by exchange rates, commodity values and interest rates?
It's just the way it is, I guess.
Perhaps magic all functions on a system of equivalent exchange? More effort, more result. It also explains how Wall Street works.

-snip-
So, "everyone--including pragmatic magical creatures--uses magical rituals for no goddamn reason"? I don't buy it.

-snip-
Seham's plan:
1. Conquer a city. (Check)
2. Raise an army from that city. Possibly make some monsters for elite troops, depending on available resources. Definitely scour the area for magical people, bribing them to join his army.
3. Use army and magical powers to conquer nearby cities.
4. Goto 2 and repeat.

Quote
With just himself and his demons, he will not have the infrastructure and cohesion to actually run the whole world. Like rome, his territory will overstretch and break apart, and internal conflict will become uncontroleable.
1. Roman civilization lasted for a hell of a long time. That's not a bad model, as far as empires go.
2. He plans to build on the existing infrastructure, rather than wipe everything out.

Quote
The timeframe is also problematic. While he conquers the world, the world does not stand still, and he will certainly need hundreds if not thousands of years to conquer it. Nothing increases technological improvement like war. Even without magic, humans will develop specialised anti demon weaponry and armor.
1. Why do you think it would take so long? On one side, you have tanks and stuff. On the other, you have magic and increasing armies...not to mention magicians. And whatever military tech they pick up. And the terror that comes with being invaded by demons. Tell me, what do you think would happen if a small army of demons invaded and took over Chicago?
2. Demons aren't stuck in medieval stasis, either.

Quote
And that is even *before* he has to deal with Lucifers bounty on his head. Every now and then powerful demons, alongside their demon servants will come to this world and make attempts at Sehams life, probably also decimating sehams demon servants in the process - removing the only means seham has to hope for controling this world.
How was Seham supposed to know Lucifer would get involved?

Quote
But let's be super generous and assume he somehow manages over the course of a thousand years to bring this world under controle, now he has to actually return and conquer our world. As Seham is in a world without magic...
The world has magic, just not as much as, say, the main world we're in, and it's completely disorganized.

Quote
...his power will likely not increase to the point where he can instantly teleport several billion humans at once, he will have to do so in groups. these groups are cut off from their home world, which means they only have the supplies they are bringing along with them and what they capture. they will have to compete with humans that are not only technologicaly more advanced, but also have access to magic - alongside everything else in this world, including an entire hell full of the demons that are controling the humans. Instantly all morale will be broken. Sehams plan is doomed to fail.
...Okay, you lost me. What the fuck do you think his plan is?

Another thing you're forgetting: Demon lords are already invading. He knew that if he stayed in Hell, he would be overrun sooner or later--probably sooner. Was invading this world a bit of a gamble? Yes. Was it better than sitting in Hell, waiting to be killed? Hell yes.

Not to mention that other entities may intervene. Wall Street investors won't like an invasion harming their investments for instance. Plus they'd still be up against the Legions of Hell which would invariably be more prepared seeing as they know he's coming and they can prepare in peacetime rather than wartime. Also, humanity could probably get Layar assistance using a few trade agreements.
Quote from: The Art of War
It is the rule in war, if our forces are ten to the enemy's one, to surround him; if five to one, to attack him;
if twice as numerous, to divide our army into two.
If equally matched, we can offer battle;
if slightly inferior in numbers, we can avoid the enemy;
if quite unequal in every way, we can flee from him.

Hence, though an obstinate fight may be made by a small force, in the end it must be captured by the larger force.
I'd say the emphasized two points describe his situation. Not to mention this world launching a preemptive strike.
Wall Street presumably only has significant investments in worlds with significant amounts of magical stuff. Magic is present but insignificant in this world.
The Legions of Hell were already against him, and now he has one portal instead of all his borders to protect.
Somehow, I doubt that Sun Tzu was writing for scenarios where a single soldier on one side could easily defeat dozens or hundreds on the other side.

"Yes, that is everything. Thank you for the information and the conversation." Grab the ring and continue onward to Mountain 1.
This, and wish him well in his eternal rest.
+1. But I don't think that we would ever meet again. He already got what he wished for.
Wait for Pay the upkeep to be spent, then pick up the ring.

So. After a nice battle, Seham is captured, and a number of demons are killed. What now?
