Biography: Demosthenes, called "Dem" by friends in life, was a scholar in said life. Dem was specifically interested in the idle philosophy, and wrote several treatises about the world working almost entirely from speculation. Around his fiftieth year, Dem reconsidered his choice of hypotheses, and discovered that many these deductions failed to hold up to empirical evidence. Thus, Demosthenes published The Corrective Treatise of Demosthenes, pt I, a treatise about the most obvious factual errors in the errors of Demosthenes's previous treatises. Dem then began investigating his previous deductions, publishing TCToD II and getting about halfway through III before hitting a snag. Demosthenes had run out of easy things to test. Thus, Demosthenes delved into the secrets of the arcane, searching for ever-more-obscure arts, spells, and powers. While pushing 70, Demosthenes wanted to round out TCToD IV with some knowledge of otherworldly beings. Demosthenes summoned a great demon to interview without being particularly careful about the terms of service. Dem served a century of servitude to the demon after death in his rotting body. Finally, the scholar has been freed...but not allowed to go to the afterlife. What will Demosthenes do now?
