We could always create a humanoid golem and put it in thick insulative robes and pretend to be a traveling mage who amuses themselves by animating dragon skeletons.
Been discussed. Many issues.
I'd say use Murita & Vitaglacia to give ourselves ice-flesh. Complete with our best attempt at an icy voice-box.
Tempting...
+1 to scouting around, (if you look closely, I was just playing devil's advocate with the chest-golems)
Wait, do you mean the soldiers with treasure in them or the golems whose only purpose was carting treasure?
As for this place;
It's weird. We've got a hall of coffins, a treasure room, and a 5000-year-old skeleton of a mighty dragon (complete with plaque!).
If anything, this makes me think we're in the 'pyramid of forgotten heroes' or somesuch.
Assuming they knew we would return at 5000 years, (which would be a strangely round number if it wasn't planned), I would say make the golems anyway- just in case there are any wards put in place to reanimate them to 'Slay it again!'. There are an awful lot of them after all, and they were entombed with their gear. Sure, any wards that we wouldn't have triggered by stumbling around here are probably destroyed along with the entryway, but hey.
As for why it's abandoned, I'd say it must have been built in the boonies. If it was in a city, it would either be known & preserved, or destroyed in some war. Or it miraculously survived the apocalypse, (& judging by the state of maintenance, I'd say we're a few years/decades late).
Let's go count the skyscrapers and meet the hyper-intelligent energy-beings which inhabit them!
I was with you until somewhere around the apocalypse.
More likely, the civilization of the surrounding area collapsed.
