Nuriel glowered at Red.
"WHY are you not letting me ATTACK the son-of-a-witch? Hey, you stupid snake, you crazy croc, you annoying alligator, you terrible turtle, you old...um..."

See: Slaves. Seems like the likeliest "resource" they would need. Although maybe it's something magical.

Two ninjas! For the second:
Or, they want the gas from jupiter or something.
Hydrogen is the commonest element in the universe, as well as the bulk of Jupiter. Besides, why invade Earth? They could mine the Moon and all we could do was start organizing a mission to look at their mines.

"Oh, come on! You keep me cooped up in Angel's head most of the time, and whenever I try to enjoy myself once I get out you complain! And often threaten violence!"

Also, if a settlement looks too devastated to comtinue supporting itself, have the people pull back to Curbiston, where we'll resettle them.

Let's not forget our own planting. We have many townspeople now and some probably haven't found their own niche. Let's settle them on the northern parcel farms.
+1, I hadn't thought of those.

It's things like this that make suggestion games so much more fun when lots of people participate. That, and the debates.

"I can nonlethal-attack. Watch:"
Punch Red in the face as hard as Nuriel can.

.....is Nuriel negatively affected by water?
Not typically, although her fires are.

The good news: Nuriel's not attacking.

The bad news: Nuriel's not happy.
How unhappy? Unhappy unhappy, grope Selina unhappy or hostage taker unhappy?
Challenge-random-people-to-duels unhappy, evidently.

''WHAT the HELL is wrong with you? It is ALWAYS better to find a peaceful way out. If we can instigate it enough, we can lessen bloodshed. If we attack willy nilly, it'll only bring more bloodshed, and well, just incase in your head you care, more bloodshed isn't just on them, or the military. It's on civilians and innocents. Think about the bigger picture or don't think at all and just follow!''
For the record, I agree with Matt.
"I agree with the 'don't think at all' part...wait, did I seriously just say that?"
Yes. You also implied that you would "follow".

"...Hey, if Kyle duels Green can I duel Red?"
Crud! [10+5v19]
Nuriel steps right in front of Red, getting a bit too close. "So, how about it?"

Nuriel stopped when she was between Green and Red. "But...I already started...You guys are no fun at all."

Happy Birthday, Piecewise!  Thanks for all your awesome RTDs!
It's piecewise's birthday?
Happy birthday!

(Oh, and you left me out. Mine was basically "Try 1 then go for others".)

If we do go with 3, why don't we all start our own PC-only gang?  Everyone joins.  Sure, it'd be more difficult, but we wouldn't have any NPC's ruling over us or anything.  Plus we'd be able to form the ideal mixture of the various magic styles without having to work around the pre-existing gangs'... stylism?
I felt quire sure many of us would go for that. I'd be in.
Agreed. We will make the Aether Gang.
(Aether gets the name because it was first.)

We should at the very least re occupy Curbiston with a military force, since it's an important fortress and valuable strategic point, as both a resupply point and just because of how bloody well defended it will be.  We need to also increase our levies to the absolute maximum we can at the time.
Concurrently we should do a full sweep of the county to check on the standings of all other settlements, and take stock of available soldiers, food, and any issues they may have with food.  Then we tax food from places with a surplus of food and send it to the places that need it.  We then take the soldiers and use them to wipe out the bandit hordes.  After that we move onto dealing with the sea raiders.
Sounds like a plan.

Back home we should have the forges start to churn out materiel for war, armour and weapons, specifically.  We should also get any other settlements with that capacity to do the same, we're going to need an army, and we may not be able to arm them otherwise.
We have bigger priorities at the moment. If this doesn't interfere with getting the farms up and such, +1.

We should go on a trip first to Curbiston to survey the damage ourselves, then move on down to the duchy seat to confer with the duke about our next steps, as well as whether some biological warfare is feasible.  While there we must make sure to tell him we've re-occupied Curbiston with our forces, and plan to re-populate it ASAP.  Further, we also say we're currently trying to get the basic facilities of the county up and running again, and will be doing a full sweep of the county to see what needs to be done to restore order.
Why would we use biological warfare?
Aside from that, pretty good.

No, we need to go straight to the Duke. Anything else will seem like us going rogue and trying to sieze power. The way it all stands now, the Duke will probably give us Curbiston anyway. Talk to him first.
And say what? "Yup, Curbiston is pretty much gone. Except for the buildings, most of those are still up."

Edit: Or maybe they do and they're simply counting on the HMRC's tendency to fuck up near civilians to provide the spark required to ignite this powder keg.))
((I doubt it. That would be ignoring the HMRC's tendency to destroy every/things when they, as you so eloquently put it, fuck up.))

He did say NPCs can join PC gangs.
Missed that.
Still leaves the issue of the starting gangs. I'd be disappointed if there was only a "Mage Eater" gang, an "Artificer" gang, a "Bloatmage" gang, etc. At the very least, a couple of each, and perhaps some assorted non-type mages scattered about within.

*applause for someone I don't know who is or what he did*

Anyways, glad you're mostly okay. I'm also pleased by the implication that you did not spend the night in a tent.

"Why are any wars fought? Any sensible ones anyway. Resources. But I don't why we open just open trade-"
There may be a hint of motivation here. He clearly indicates that he doesn't see why they couldn't just open up trade rather than fight, also, knowing what resource they think they're fighting for can help future diplomatic interactions.
It's an obvious lie given by their superiors. As Angel attempted to note, any resources one could find on Earth could be found elsewhere in or out of the Solar System.
Unless "resources" is a euphemism for "slaves," which would explain why trade isn't an option.
Doubtful that they want slaves, the Layar suggested open trade and I'm pretty sure they're aware that humans won't sell themselves to slavery. Hence, if we find out the lie we can mitigate or negate it.
I'm guessing that the lie was told to the soldiers.

Or we could think up of a lie to convince them to fight for us. Of course, we would need countermeasures in place to neutralize them if they find out about our deception.
...Like what?
