Meh. I mean, the "sleeping creature" bit is neat, but other than that it's a bit underwhelming.

"searching" time for dwarves would do it. Let's say after a tile has 20> different items in it, picking item from it would take some time more than normally. And it will be slower and slower if stack has more and more items in it. It would work much better than any "limits" for items in one tile.
So 19 statues, beds, and doors would be peachy-clean, but 20 identical seeds and they need to dig around for the right one?

I think the solution is making it realistic, not making it legitimate. Make huge piles take up huge amounts of space. That's Toady's plan, IIRC.

So we really just need ONE really good computer to save everything about the time-line.  Then the client (me) selects which portion of the time-line he wants to play and the ONE really good computer just sends me that one chunk that I requested.
Yeah, this isn't particularly likely. Sorry, but your idea requires a lot of computing resources most don't have...and, worse, it's enforcing those resource requirements on ANYONE who generates a world. I don't think that being able to start anywhen is worth it.

Hell as it is now is basically made to be a way to end your game, not an Extra Special Easter Egg Bonus Level. Mind you, I'm not trying to insult your ideas, but it's just not what the intent of the current HFS is made for. Until that fundamental element of design choice is altered--as I hope it is--Hell isn't changing much. Once it is, though, I'm sure Hell will be filled with as many kinds of terrifying, gruesome, and unnerving items, characteristics, and features as he can code before remembering the original goal of the update.

Indeed.

It's also a little silly. Minecarts are, shockingly enough, made to make carrying bulk amounts of goods easier, not transport. There's a reason Paris doesn't have elevated minecart tracks; they're just not good transport. They're not even that good in DF!

It all depends on two things:

1. "It"s goals.
2. "It"s knowledge of us.
2a. How many "levels" "it" thinks we think on.

If it is easier for us to make a spear from the blade and the crowbar, I am up for this.
Alteration (changing items instead of making new ones) is easier than making new items, in that it gives a bonus to the roll. The bonus varies depending on how similar the reagent is to the intended product, from +1 for turning metal dust into a spoon of the same metal to +10 or +15 or something for making a sword slightly sharper.
