My $0.02 on synthflesh versus neo-meta-material mecha:
Sure, synthflesh titans work. Sure, we can make them. But so can the UWM, and they know how they work. Making something that can do as well, or close to it, but which works on completely different (and unexpected!) design principles would rather hinder the UWM's attempts to hurt us. Moreover, synthflesh is unstable. If we can find a way to get comparable benefits for comparable prices, but without needing an exponentially-increasinly-expensive control system or risking a disaster if that breaks...
And yeah, Avatars are a completely different bird. In addition to synthflesh, it has a built-in manipulator, armor plating, and all sorts of other toys.

My father showed me the 1998 Godzilla movie, which was far superior. No monsters fighting each other, but it was still enjoyable. You cared about the characters and when they were in danger. There was suspense, and character development, and plot. That? Now, that is a pretty good movie. If a bit dated.

I'm going to be adding a Power Tiers system to the rules. Keep an eye out. It shouldn't matter much, but it may involve lore tweaks.

I saw The Edge of Tomorrow and the new Godzilla movie last night. They had some of the same weaknesses, although the Godzilla movie had them all worse.
The characters were standard templates, not much interesting about them; I felt that the monsters got more characterization than the main characters of either movie. It was hard to care when they died. They also had logical and scientific flaws (though I'll grant that EoT at least had the decency to not embarrass itself by trying to explain its stuff), plus stupid characters and my pet-peeve trope of Going Against The Man to Save the Day. Godzilla managed to get me and my family to care about one character, Ford's dad, but in my case it was mostly that I was glad to see him gone; he annoyed me for some reason. Maybe because if the movie wasn't tailored to his fantasies and didn't bend to his son's emotional needs, he would have been dead a dozen times over by the time he finally died. Oh, and I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that Godzilla represents technology even more poorly than Pacific Rim, analog giant mecha and all. Some stuff bugged me, and I'm not that tech-savvy; my father, who is more of one, pointed out several errors that I missed (e.g, the ship carrying the nuke shouldn't have been crippled by the EMP, which makes more sense if you've seen the movie, trust me).
I place my Seal of Disapproval on Godzilla. The Edge of Tomorrow was neat, I guess, and it was darkly hilarious to see Cage dying repeatedly as he trained to be non-pathetic.
