Political Direction: Basically, whatever will make Germany the greatest it can be, followed by whatever will make humanity the best it can be.

General Program: One part supporting the sciences, especially social sciences, to two or three parts whatever studies and theories indicate is best for Germany and humanity (or, barring that, what the public thinks is best).

History: Die Gedankenjustierer Pertei (For short: The Gendankens to their supporters or The Geindeskren (heavily corrupted form of "Insane") to their detractors) trace their origins to a group of American scholars who fled to Germany several years before the Unification. They settled in Falkenstein, a town in the Regensburg area. They started what would, in our world in time, be called a "think tank" as a sort of hobby. Eventually, this group (the "Gedanken Vereinigten") managed to recuit some native Germans; slowly, they managed to gain support in the community, which gained momentum after helping the city plan some major changes during the Great War, allowing them to remain relatively unaffected by the War. As time went on, a number of parties rose to try and claim a portion of the power in German government. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the G.V. found fault with the way the government acted, and more with the plans of many parties. Hence, they chose to create their own party--initially mainly a regional one, but which managed to capture the attention of the nation with its unique policy decisions.
Description: The Gendankens have never and probably will never be a defining party in Germany, but they hope to be. Their leaders tend to be more well-educated than most, and even the random members tend to be better-educated than average. Their stances on issues are based more on what their studies show to be the best rather than following some set of ethical goals; this makes them more flexible and moderate than most parties, but also more likely to change their minds. The prevailing stereotype is that they are somewhere between well-meaning and willing to compromise, and a bunch of cowards who want to be able to have an excuse for their mistakes.
