Eh.
((Is that what she says her favorite letter is?))

@GWG: You act like unnecessary actions and silliness isn't half this game already.
Some days, I hate being the only sane Bay12er.

No, because figuring out all those Bro Attacks seems like it would be unneeded work for freeform and silliness for the rest of us.

Play With Your Buddies / Turn Sporoo [1]
« on: May 11, 2013, 03:27:53 pm »
Aha, I got a screenshot! We can start!

-----

"Alright, class, quiet down! Quiet--I SAID QUIET! ...Good. Now, then. Welcome to 'The Origin of Us," a class which will discuss the early history of our species. Now, then. Early biochemists were befuddled by our biochemistry...why?"
"Because you're an idiot?"
"No, does anyone ACTUALLY know?"
"Wasn't it because it's not much like almost any other creature's?"
"Correct! Does anyone know what the predominating theory is?"
"That all Nisoans evolved from a separate lineage of life, possibly from a panspermic origin."
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
"Precisely! Now, then, what was this ancestral Niosan like?"
"It was likely a very small, perhaps a [1.3 mm] long or so with a beating flagellal tail and a pair of light-sensitive organs on the dorsal surface for detecting perdators. It likely was a filter-feeder and, like all Niosans, had an unusually high mutation rate. Most notably, it had the unique-at-the-time capability shared with modern Niosans to absorb genes from its food and incorporate them into its gameses."
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
"...That was impressive, I didn't expect anyone to know the answer.

"The ancestral Niosan was found perhaps a [6 Earth years, 4 Slendermintian years] and a half ago. It has been given the name Sporoo micros, and existed alongside such beings as Minno fotosens and Goldy dimonspydir.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
"Minno fotosens was a great competitor to Sporoo. In addition to being more numerous, Minno's entire dorsal surface was photosensitive and may have included primitive eye-like structures. However, the S. micros soon evolved into its more well-known and larger cousin, Sporoo origin, which was very much similar to micros aside from being about three or four times as long."
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
"Of course, in this new world of being multiple [1.3 mm]s long, Sporoo origin faced new challenges. For instance, Goldy dimonspydir, which previously ignored Sporoo and only ingested it when encountering one in the middle of a school of Minno, found Sporoo origin quite tasty...to say nothing of larger creatures."
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
"Fairly early on in its evolution, Sporoo managed to assimilate genes from Pokey martys, another herbivore which is notable for its keratinized spines on the fore portion of the creature. As Sporoo lacked any means to harm Pokey and Goldy would not have eaten Pokey due to its size and spines, it is highly likely that Sporoo's assimilation was from feeding off the scraps of the meal of a Chomper aedis; given the fairly high concentrations of genetic information required, this was likely performed slightly after the Pokey's death. Regardless..."
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
"Of course, don't think that the Chompers were a friend of Sporoo! They were a dangerous predator, with massive jaws two, maybe 2.5 [1.3 mm] long!"
"They even caused our first death!"
"...What?"
"The first death in the game was caused by a combination of Chomper chomping and Pokey being run into."
"...Anyways."
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
"For a brief period of time--"
"Between when we hit that one chunk of green and when we actually mated--"
"...of time, there was a species called Sporoo gigantis, which was almost a [6.5 mm] long!"
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
"But, soon enough, Sporoo gigantis, too, evolved into a completely new form."
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
"And the new being was definitely not Sporoo. Who knows what it evolved into?"

So, what shall we have next?

General Discussion / Re: Gatsby
« on: May 11, 2013, 03:11:52 pm »
Oh, shush, guys. I'll go watch it and enjoy the special effects and the atmosphere, regardless of whether it was true to the book. That's half the point of watching any movie about the 20s, anyways.
Indeed. I think one of the reasons it hit me so hard was the contrast in Gatsby's mansion at the beginning with the party, when he and Daisy are spending time together in the almost-empty building, and...well, at the end.

Also, people dissing the green light: can it. The last page of the book is quite possibly the most brilliantly penned in the history of English-language literature.
It also manages to sum up the general idea of the novel, unless the passage I'm thinking of wasn't on that page.

And yeah. Having such lavish special effects and whatnot really hammers in the decadence of the era. Those who care about such things can see that (especially when contrasted with the Valley of Ashes and, of course, the end), those who can't get to see the pretty special effects. Just about as good a compromise as can be achieved between Fitzgerald fans and the LCD of society.

Let's take a moment and truly appreciate the fact that FFS is an excellent and awesome GM. He gives us so much and asks for so little in return.

It says it's "for Windows XP, 2003, Vista, and Windows 7". As you may have gathered, I'm using Windows 8. Would this cause compatibility problems?

And sorry for the technical issues, I'm more of a biology nerd  than a tech nerd.

30505
True.

How do mudskippers do it?
Mudskippers keep themselves oxygenated by using water trapped within their gills, or through absorbing oxygen with their skin. They suck up plankton that have been washed up on the mud, and use their four front fins to push themselves along.

Does that give you an answer? I didn't really figure out the question.
I was referring to senses, actually. Do they just see or do their lateral lines have some kind of tympanic membrane or something so they can hear on land?

30506
"Ah'm thinkin' thar gunna not's th' dra'pods that'r drappin' in."

30507
((Sure.))

Go ahead and summon that chessboard.

"You don't have a name? Hold on...um...you need a name. What's your favorite letter of the alphabet?"

This is pretty cool. Hey! You there, TopHat!

Move TopHat to a pocket dimension for trial. Resurrect those he killed.

If we confront Betweenford and mystery girl, +1 to flirting again.  For we have the Ring of Flirting!  If we don't go down there, I suggest we go sleep in Mili's house.  As this is a game, it will heal us.  As we absorbed Mili and died there, it will be good for some exposition!  Plus, if we roll a natural 20 on luck, we'll get some kind of dream sequence revealing Ciro's backstory, as well as an intermission while resting!  Plus we can totally use Slog as a pillow.  Get voting, guys!
This sounds like a good idea.
