DF Suggestions / Re: Adventurer Written Books
« on: April 24, 2013, 09:07:24 pm »
However, I afraid we need first better reading interface for books.
This is my major problem. For player-created journals to exist, we should have NPCs' journals. Which means the AI will need to be taught how to write. Which means the AI will need to be taught about literature above a kindergarten level. Which means that there will probably be a lengthy Literature Arc before this gets added. And since the sum total of this is a pretty low reward, it's probably not going to happen for a while.
Sorry.

Some way to block coffins would be a good idea. Maybe as simple as a rock block put over the lid, maybe as complex as a lock. But something is a good idea, and it shouldn't be 100% free.

DF Suggestions / Re: Another take on Magic - Magicmaker style
« on: April 24, 2013, 07:22:41 pm »
I think there's a bit of confusion on what you mean by "spells". I thought you meant that specific, simple-to-learn, and so forth things to do with magic don't fit. I was thinking you meant spells like "Raise Dead," "Fireball," "Create Water," etc, didn't fit.

I agree that "flashy" magic wouldn't fit with DF most of the time, but it IMHO should happen sometimes. Maybe in "high magic" worlds, whatever that comes to mean.

So? It's still showing where Toady intends to take the game. Maybe not the specifics of the story, but certainly the notes at the bottom.

The biggest issue I have with this suggestion is basically wondering if magic is going to be "simple" enough for a sliding scale to work well. Basically, while a high/low slider will be useful for magic when there's actually...magic, any details finer than "it should exist," including "it will be pretty easy to grasp" or maybe even "it is possible" are up in the air.

DF Suggestions / Re: UI still horrible ? off for another year
« on: April 24, 2013, 06:38:35 pm »
I don't understand how the ui makes this game unplayable for some people lol. I can play the game just fine with only a few annoyances related to the ui, but dwarf therapist helps a lot with those. I guess I've just gotten used to the interface. And I've never even thought once to myself ''I wish this game had more mouse support!'' because i find that I can do things a lot faster with just the keyboard.
Same here. I don't even understand why people demand Dwarf Therapist and such.

And if you don't like the current UI, come back when Toady's done with the game's guts and is putting on the figurative paint. The problem with overhauling the UI now is that it would have to be modified each time the relevant main code is done with.

Well not every creature gets a super boost because of their size.
Look at the giant insects, how many of them also have proportional strength?
That would be because (to put it simply) strength increases with the square of the length and mass with the cube.
A man-sized spider would not be much stronger than a man, and certainly nowhere near as strong as Spider-Man. (It's even worse for jumping and such; Spider-Man should be able to jump as far as a spider, rather than "proportionately" as far. To say nothing of the differing biomechanics of the species, of course...but as far as brute strength goes, that's pretty minor compared to the square/cube thing.)

And as to the suggestion, it's a good suggestion for the next Animal Sponsorship Drive.

Note that Armok never appears in-game.

Also consider practical consequences. Know how blood clots? Imagine it doing that in your clothes. That's happened to me once, although I was a bit too concerned about the gash in my calf to worry about my pants.
...I was whittling!

34 Centigrade is 93 Farenheight, so I'm close enough.

For future reference: Kelvin + 273 or so = Celsius.
Indeed.

How old of girls and why would anyone have aluminum nunchaku?

Well, I totally missed those temperature figures.
You have an excuse--they were posted after your post.
But now we know it's probably a good idea for us to make the people ectothermic.

307 Kelvin is pretty high; it's about 5-6 degrees Farenheight short of human body temperature. We could probably go ectotherm. Less heat problems, and lowered metabolic requirements. So...let's go with that, shall we?
I might not be a fancy genetic engineer like some of ya, but I'm pretty sure 307 Kelvin is around 38 Fahrenheit, or as we in Europe like to say "1 degree above the point where water freezes", 326 Kelvin is respectively 20 centigrade (room temperature)
If that's true, then the Google conversion thing is off, because it claims that 307 Kelvin is about 92 degrees.
And I'm no fancy...whatever you are like you are, but if it went from freezing to around room temperature would the planet be described as "warm"?

I know the New Order's paranoid. That won't stop the Sky Lords from pounding at that brick wall until they get something.
Frustrated, at least.

We definitely need priorities.

Priority 1: Gather support. Let Uriel get his soldiers on his side, find the laid-off guardsmen, don't act like an invading army, etc.
Priority 2: Prevent Owen from getting support. Possibly by keeping him in his house, possibly by getting the messengers on our side or something, possibly by getting this over with before he can think of who to send for (if anyone).
Priority 3: I'm not sure. Ideas?
