Yes, no name calling. I like debate. I don't like ad hominem attacks.
Worse is making people think others did ad hominem.

There is a middle ground between utopia-level peace and anarchy.
Also you can start calling people dumbass I don't care, but don't make ME call people dumbass. Or I may start to express a slight disappointment.
I got called out by name directly and insinuated that I had no grounds for anything, when in fact I was dropping examples throughout.
And we were dropping reasons why your weren't true or were true for both sides of the argument. And you really could have phrased your own points better than I rather than claim Kain called you a dumbarse. You don't really expect me to be able to cite your reasoning as well as I can my own, do you?

A: We use the permit for what it's meant for, and and march into the city.
Agreed, if anyone tries to stop us, tell them we are working on behalf of the duke, and that attempting to stop us is treason, punishable by death.
But don't hesitate; if we dilly-dally in-town before getting the merchant, he could hear of us and escape. Dilly-dallying can wait for when we have him in our hands.

Minor correction GWG: Udil ascended due to the act of the Overgod, not due to the battle. Not going to try to argue with you right now; you're clearly pissed.
Ah, my bad.
...Still. That leaves everything else.

Okay so let me see. Most of this actions turned out as they did was because they were done stupidly.
Not all of it had to be.

Quote
The natural habitat of the Dwarves were the Savannnahs, YOU destroyed by creating a jungle, a biome they were not prepared for the least.
Next you create Megafauna WHICH EATS THEM. Do you think they would love you for it?
IN fact you did nothing useful for the Dwarves. You didn't create Emeraldhome, the Dwarves wandered there bcause of Atlas and settled there because he shooed away the Megafauna you created.
You are leaving a few things out...like the wood, and the meat, and the fact that this isn't where I'm complaining about Neyravah's failing in general.
Besides, you seem to also be assuming that a God of Life with a Major Act can't cause changes to the ecosystem without balancing it all out.

Quote
THe nex thting you did was throw those that stayed solitary (because it was their nature and culture) together. Would you throw a bunch of tigers into the same cage?
And yet it worked for Udil.

Quote
And then you asked/oredered them to kill their old and weak? Does that sound like a reason to worship you? Not really.
Asked...and I kinda did give them a way to deal with the Fangdrakes and be more prosperous than they ever were...And besides, what did you expect me to do? Elder Gods don't get power from worship, they get it from blood sacrifice.

Quote
On the other Hand. Udil led those Dwarves into safety and out of the murderous jungles, gave them a place to settle down and defended thema gainst the monstrosities of this world. They Followed him first out of Fear (he killed Atlas and destroyed the Emerald as well as killing a Fangdrake singlehandedly, with a wooden sword) and later because he kept them alive through all that.
Congratulations. That works for some dwarves--except, wait, they're tigers who can't get along.

Quote
Your Creation of Mountain Turtles was just stupid. Would you burrow into something that moves and could squash you with its toe? Not really.
They were intended to be tamed. But no, the worst possible outcome happened, which of course made the dwarves hate Neyravah more and more...

Quote
Besides they are turtles. Most turtles i know like water and are drawn to it.
...You're not familiar with what a tortoise is, are you?

Quote
That the Stonedrakes live in them is only natural. I mean they carry their foodsource on their backs!
Despite the fact that there weren't enough in the world for the dwarves to notice?

Quote
All in all all your actions where so blatantly ignorant of Dwarven Needs that you shouldn't really wonder why they don't worship you...and thats to that.
At a certain point, yes, but only after I embraced that as part of Neyravah, which happened after some impressive, unintentional, and (except for one) completely unexpectable failures.

And you haven't addressed stonedrakes, nor most of Udil's successes, nor why you ignored almost every argument I made as to why Udil brought disaster on the Ninth Continent and the dwarven race to the point of not bothering to say that you think they are wrong. Nor Flamoaks.

What the hell? Aodun is on the other side of the world from the Moon.
And there's that barrier...

Anyway, yeah, not going to argue that they didn't have reason to really love him. I even understand why they happened to follow Udil. problem is, though I don't see him as a Marty Stu (as rediculous as he is, I'm pretty sure no-one would actually want to be him), I still think that he's been favored at least some, what with the fact that he's had very little go wrong for him outside of relatively minor inconveniences.
I can't think of a single inconvenience which has actually hindered Udil's actions.

ah yeah, the Flameoaks. Which he gave to teh CHildren fo Az-Sho. The Dwarves were long gone by then and have nothing to do with it.
If that's true, how did Udil's troops have backpacks of Flamoak?
And aren't all dwarves on the same continent, anyways?

And, finally:
DARN YOU I HAD NO CHANCE TO RESPOND WHY DO ALL OF MY CHARACTERS DIE WHEN I CAN'T RESPOND?

34053
Proxxy and...Flo?

34054
Don't say I didn't try to warn you...
all I know about magical girls comes from TV Tropes.

I should be able to do this better now, though.

-----

I missed the "even." So...I get a total of 8 points to spend, correct?

34055
Fun?

Play Dwarf Fortress.

...What? He said it's time to have fun...

I, and I think some other people who don't post as much, want to be a bit more honest: We enter by the gates, tell the guards our motives honestly, show the warrant when needed, and hustle to the merchant's house ASAP before arresting him and dragging him to a boat or something to leave the city.
yeah nah you don't do that
by "that" i mean speaking for people who would speak up if they wanted to, by the way, unless they actually asked you to for some reason, in case it's not clear since i don't want to spark a debate over this
I wasn't trying to imply everyone else was on my side, just some others. (And, to be honest, "posts less than I do" isn't exactly a high bar...)

Quote
I dunno, it seems to me like you guys think that there is no rule of law in medieval kingdoms when it comes to the nobility. If that was true, if kingdoms were just anarchy pits with random barons deciding what's what then there would be no kinddoms. No system of vassalhood and fealty. But there is, there is a system of government, and it was stable enough to maintain order for hundreds and hundreds of years.
from what history taught me, i can just throw "welcome to post-jagellon poland" at you
The GM explicitly stated we were to treat it as more like medieval England than any other real-world place.
Anyways, in our several years there has been one, minor rebellion. A pretty peaceful time and place.

Quote
Why exactly do we need to do everything stealthly? Do you think the city guards would try to stop an armed noble taking a merchant who he has a warrant to arrest? This'll take ten minutes with the marshal, tops, and if we're good he'll even go out of his way and capture him for us. Then it's just boating it down before the count picks up anything.
And the worst-case scenarios apply to either method.

Dumbasses think there weren't rebellions and constant power struggles between kings and magnates. Read a book, ffs.
FTFY.
Maintain order! how out of it do you have to be on this subject to say that?
You Ministry of Truth official, you.

34057
Well GWG that sounds a lot like jealousy, eh?

I wouldn't be throwing with stones seeing as you achieved not half of what he achieved with a dozen times the power that he had.
Exactly why I'm annoyed at it.

I think our current Overgod has some needlessly complicated evil plot. That involves using Udil and the God of Chaos to cleanse the original planet.
Or he's staggeringly incompetent. Which one is yet to be seen.
Probably the latter, give the complete lack of response to Udil.

I want the update, because I am out of ideas for Vanida's actions for now ( Well, I suspect that she will be killed by Udil at first opportunity. Or raped. Or both. Or eaten by Aodun. But still)
It was my mistake making a peaceful schemer for the world of maaaaadnes
Oh, aye, so did I, except without the scheming.
By the way, you're welcome to side with me.

update is coming as soon as Azthor thinks he has slaughtered enough divine beings.
That means when he'll be the last god standing?
He's not Udil, ya know.

Thank you for supporting me.

34059
Aww, you are making me blush now. I never had so many people talk about me. Let along have a long list of titles bestowed upon me.
I regard Udil as rather dumb now, though. Releasing an immensely powerful being from it's prison without even negotiating for favors or anything?!
What point is there in negotiating without assurances, of which I could provide none, and, truth be told, he seems better off for freeing said immensely powerful being than the others are for not releasing it.
1. Then...don't release it?
2. Unless Udil just wants to destroy everything, there's no point in releasing you without any promise or even suggestion of aid you'd give him--especially since everyone else would be angry at Udil.

In my opinion, a minute of levitation is better than a minute of invisibility or invisibility purge.

On the other hand...at will.

Invisibility at will...up to ten targets with the right logistics...go invisibility.

Gervassen wants to be all sneaky-like, trick the merchant into being by the docks somehow, then grab him, drag him onto the ship, and shout out the warrant as we sail away.

I'm not sure what 10ebbor10 wants to do.

What should our soldiers be?
What other animals should we take?

34063
Oh, and here's the basis of Aodun's logic: 'The world is screwed up. Therefore the gods are fighting, which is bad. Let me go, and I'll fight the gods, which is good.'
From what I remember.
What did you expect of a conversation between the God of Wrath and the then God of Chaos?
Udil being smart enough to negotiate.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Aww, you are making me blush now. I never had so many people talk about me. Let along have a long list of titles bestowed upon me.
You didn't pay much attention to them, did you?
I just thought of a new few!

Releasing an immensely powerful being from the prison another immensely powerful being told you to guard?

He's supposed to be intelligent enough to have conquered and keep an empire spanning a continent.
WHY ISN'T HE THAT.
Because he's not smart, he's just powerful, lucky, and beloved by the gods.
By which I mean the god above the Overgod.

Let's see...first, Neyravah gives him a hundred dwarves. Then he kills a giant and destroys Neyravah's artifact. Then he kills Neyravah, becoming a demigod. Then he unites all the dwarves inland and conquers the coast, with help from such things as Emeraldhome industry and (I think) Az-Sho's support. Then he attacks Az-Sho and loses everything. At various points, he gets the support of assorted divine beings for reasons which are usually a mystery to me.
He's either had help or been stupid all through his life.

Well, I WAS in favor of waiting until he was travelling and not even on the count's lands, but since that option seems to be massively outvoted in favor of 20th century "due process" So oh well
There's also the difficulty of arranging such a thing, and the alaracity with which we want this done...

Well, a couple problems...
1. This leaves the relevant authorities' knowing we're not breaking the law for a dangerously late point in time.
2. We can't back it up with the warrant. This means the Count would be entirely justified in chasing us, as long as he didn't give orders to kill us on sight.
Who are the relevant authorities? There's the Duke and the Count. The Count won't be pleased whether its legal or not. If you really think he obeys the law, we can leave a dude that we really hate on the docks with the perfectly legal writ to show the Count as we speed off. I bet that guy dies in a rage.
How about the Captain of the Guard, or whoever's duty it is to make sure peace is kept in the town? We can't afford to have someone like that against us if we can avoid it.

Quote
That's another thing. You guys insisting that the Count knows better than to ride us down while we're operating in an official capacity are trusting a SURLY WRATHFUL DRUNK to behave like a meek choirboy.
No, we're treating a feudal noble to act in his own, rational self-interest. Besides, if he was as 100% all-drunk, all-angry, all the time, he would have appointed someone to cool his heels or else died/been demoted long ago...

Opening fire on the guys carrying the Count's nephew-in-law on their shoulders? I shouldn't think so. And if we took a bookish-looking man without arms or armor to stay behind with the warrant, they'd slaughter him on sight?
1. You're suggesting we use our prisoner as a human shield instead of using the warrant for its intended purposes?!?
2. Why not just show them the warrant and head to the merchant's house ASAP? That way we avoid the whole issue.

Opening fire on the guys carrying the Count's nephew-in-law on their shoulders? I shouldn't think so. And if we took a bookish-looking man without arms or armor to stay behind with the warrant, they'd slaughter him on sight?
They don't need to.  They'd block our passage. This is a city. It's got walls, and stuff like that. And gates. And guards. We can't just walk in and out.
If we do it at day, there'll be quite a lot of people around, making subterfuge hard, and hindring us enormously. If we do it at night, the gates are closed.
My plan has aways been by boat, with the merchant being lead to the docks on a false pretence. He's kinda a merchant, and merchants doing some trading occasionally at the docks. Goodbye, walls and gates. Also, this is a river harbor, so let's not pretend that there's a defensible bay.
And docks never have anywhere for guards to go? And we can only use the boats if we're tricking the merchant into coming? And the Count is supposed to implicitly believe a warrant transmitted by someone shouting it to the nearby guards while the alleged arestee is being dragged onto a boat?

As for the guy with the warrant. They'd capture him, throw him in a cellar. And burn the thing. Really, if someone just send an armed force into your city, then fought his way out of it, leaving behind a single person with a paper saying that you'd been justified in doing this, would you believe it not to be faked?
I'd be wondering why my men tried to stop them and escalated it into a fight like that. But then, I don't have any dirt.
The problem is, just because we shout "IT'S OKAY WE HAVE A WARRANT TO ARREST THIS GUY" doesn't mean that anyone will believe us. If, on the other hand, we enter city like we're supposed to and show the warrant to anyone who needs to see it, we can't run into that kind of trouble. Also, if we do it the "proper" way, we have the law on our side the whole time and never need to worry about legitimate authorities getting in the way...and if the Count uses his authority in an illegitimate manner, he digs himself deeper. Win-win.

I think you're probably aware that Amsterdam is a unique case, and moreover is an estuary city like the Duke's rather than an inland river city, where rivers run straight. Why not look at this map of medieval London instead? This is far more common. Note that the walls don't even protect the riverbank, because the riverbank is its own barrier.
The docks are still, by their nature as docks, chokepoints and high-priority to guard.

Quote
Lots of back-and-forth here. I'm surprised no one has challenged the whole SURLY DRUNK point that I made. You really think this Count is a 100% rational actor? You really think he won't just snap when the man with all his secret dirt is being led away by that damned peasant who has been getting rich off of his goldmine?
If he does, he's digging himself in deeper.
More to the point...if he would do something like that to an unquestionably legitimate arrest, he'd dang well do so if we ran in and kidnapped his nephew-in-law.

Archaeologist =/= Paleontologist.
Indiana Jones hardly behaves like an actual Archaeologist.
He acts even less like an actual paleontologist.

I could probably play some kind of living artillery piece... I'm thinking Half-Giant Primordial Giant Kineticist maybe...
That sounds good.
