DF Suggestions / Re: Your shit is too expensive, I'm leaving!
« on: February 15, 2013, 12:50:16 pm »
It doesn't make sense that a monarch would spend his time setting prices.
Maybe not the king himself, but the Crown (ie the kingdom's officials) were miserly with the powers they granted to the lesser nobles. A baron or whatever would be able to set the prices he pays for items (probably with restrictions should abuses occur, or as a matter of course), but the prices he pays to royal caravans would be a bit less under his control.

But yeah, this (however it ends up) will come when the economy gets looked at better.

DF Suggestions / Re: New weapon grade metals
« on: February 15, 2013, 12:45:17 pm »
I agree. While I don't normally like "It can be modded" arguments, this one is apt because we don't really need more Fantasy Metals.

If Toady wants to add the ability to have dwarves smelt gold, copper, and whatever into orichalcum, or add mithril ores to the game, he should...but if not, we shouldn't badger him about it.

DF Suggestions / Re: Time Delay Between Playing times
« on: February 15, 2013, 12:25:26 pm »
There is actually a gap of somewhere around a month between adventurers, or after worldgen but before your adventurer, or after the fall of the most recent fortress and before your adventurer.

This sounds amusing.

Do you intend to do the same thing with other famous works of literature?

Do you know what might be cool?
a thing where you do almost nothing, and the city EVOLVES.
like you start in the middle ages and it goes on to now.
and events happen.
all you do is try to fit between events, approve projects (like DF Railroads wanting to build a station) and shelling out cash as nessasary.
That would get kinda boring, but at the same time it's one of those things that I would love to look at.
Something like that could be neat.

If you don't mind a few comments?
If you don't mind a few meta-comments?

1. Having Earth's population anywhere in the trillions is way beyond plausible. Even with terraforming of areas like Antarctica and the Sahara, having a population of 15 trillion would mean over 100,000 people per square kilometer. Or to put it another way, over three times the population density of Mumbai, across every square inch of land surface on the planet. I realize this is supposed to be 800 years in the future, but it's simply an issue of physical space. Even if you dot the oceans with arcologies, it would be unfeasible.
Underground cities?

Quote
2. The 800 years is another problem. There's simply not enough resources on the planet to support the current population that long, much less one that is a thousand times larger. We'd have left Earth long before, drowned in our own filth, or suffered a technological and population collapse.
Looted other planets' resources? Applied phlebotinum?

Quote
My suggestion would be to scale down the population to billions instead of trillions, and shrink the timescale to 200 years instead of 800. Especially since you're essentially discarding Earth early on. Just my .02.
Should be fine.

Do you still get to control the flaming wreckage?

Does the explosion do anything to nearby ships?

Do other ships explode?

we must murder that smug bastard before he murders us
No, we should keep the prisoner.
OR
No, we should avoid antagonizing the Crown and other higher nobles. Pursue justice through legal channels.

Curse his sudden yet inevitable betrayal!

Seriously, we need to contact the duke. But first, talk to Denton and Percival, specifically about the wisdom of revealing our evidence.

And yes, try to keep the prisoner alive if possible. If not, give him a restful death.
Keep the prisoner alive at all costs. he's our best evidence. coins dont really prove much. for all the Duke (or anyone else knows) we could have just had one of our guys go to the counts land and sell something for approximately equal value.
I believe that was implied by "if possible." If it's impossible, no amount of costs will change that.

Name: Kara Malston
Age: 29
Company Name: Vanguard Global. (I also thought about Vanguard Heavy Industries, so that we could have branch companies earning us some legit extra money in other areas).

have everybody who keeps working atleast move their work into the light of the campfire.
Unless, of course, that's not possible.
The miner should definitely stop working, though.

set up a guard shift through the night, everybody should atleast get some sleep.
Agreed, although I don't think you'll find much argument anywhere.
