That's not how decomposition works. The actual matter is still there. The pit would eventually fill up, without any kind of drain. And good luck finding a non-cavern drain when you're digging underground...
Yes I know that. What I meant is over time it will decay, become one with the soil. I know it doesn't magically disapear. I'm just saying it doesn't have to be quite the space screwer people think.
Assuming people can find deep enough soil. I'd imagine that 100-250 dwarves, using a single latrine, would fill up a Z-level or two before it could all decay into the soil.

Besides Dwarves are small, so hopefully the poops would be too (though some animals are exceptions to the small creature small crap rule).
They're actually 6/7 the mass of a human being.

Don't matter much though. This will not be implemented anyway, at least not in the near future! Maybe 20 years from now, after the game is "released" they may add redundent or otherwise alpha/beta impracticle things, as a sort of "expansion."
So? I'm still going to refute arguments on the subject.

Or crafts. Driftwood is naturally smooth; I bet a skilled woodcrafter could make a pretty good figuring out of driftwood.

DF Suggestions / Re: Fortress mode Slavery
« on: January 29, 2013, 11:47:47 pm »
Armok, guys, you are getting to be such elf pansys. This game is not real, there doesn't have to be all races against slavery. Slaves can do all the dangerous and ugly work without throwing a big fit, don't waste up your dwarven alcohol, and can be used as vampire food without getting rid of a useful dwarf. Sure, dwarves could be used as slaves, but is that useful?
It's not that we think all races should be against slavery.
It's that the only vanilla race we ever see any of the societal workings of (ie, dwarves) has classified slavery as a felony. This indicates a dearth of slavery in dwarven fortresses. Toady shouldn't bother adding a feature that would never get seen.

Probably if Toady will someday happen to have an excess of free-time then he should add a pair of features there.
Quoted for agreement.

As for bronze, i agree that it's already better than iron, but just barely? I'm guessing it has to do with damage algorithms as stated on the other thread.
Or...it could have to do with the fact that combat in DF is really freaking unpredictable.

Quote
So like animal training but with metals?
Something similar, except... The focus is not on making a tier tech tree like system as i hate those, it's about putting a barrier, making game play more challenging and random (Like only having copper to defend against hordes of iron wearing goblins for example).
Anyway, the system should be configurable on world creation, as some people don't have as good machines, thus they would probably like to choose to have everything known at start.
I also think that certain civilizations should tend to start at higher/lower "tech levels" than others. Kobolds and elves at the low end, dwarves at the high end.

Also consider that, since rarely is much over a thousand years simulated in worldgen, the world should probably start out somewhere in the early Iron Age or late Bronze Age, not in the Stone Age.

I don't know. Poo decomposes and all that so maybe space wouldn't be such an issue.

DF Suggestions / Re: Progressive/Adaptive AI?
« on: January 29, 2013, 11:31:45 pm »
Oy. That sounds...painful. It's a good idea in theory, but just storing those little details seems like it would be a pain, let alone determining them and figuring out how to apply it...especially if there's ways to make sure only goblins or whatever who should know, do. It sounds like one of those ideas to put in the "Once computers can run DF better" pile.
It's exactly the same method used for the current traffic designations when using the modified A* with Manhattan - it just means having a different traffic designation map for siegers than dwarves.
I should have been more specific.

Actual learning AI, as opposed to merely altering pathing costs, sounds painful, yadda yadda. (Although those pathing costs sound like a potential pain to implement properly, and don't really cover things well--they wouldn't do anything to cage traps, and would cause goblins to avoid areas where lots of goblins had fought dwarven axelords over a waterfall where no goblins had died [at the top].)

36519
...oh right. That was a bad idea.

Set the diving suits on fire
[4] They are! [2,3] They burn up.

Induce logical paradox in the AI
You'll need to be a wee bit more specific. Your communication with the AI is limited, to say the least.

It shoudl say something that half of all responses I get now aren't even rolls, just you telling me I can't do something.
Imagine you have what your character has. (I probably shouldn't have let you dig dozens of feet or through solid rock with your hands...)

Type in catalogue for larger items and cell-phone
[4,6] You get both. The cell phone is a rather...expensive one, with internet access and an awesome unlimited-anything plan. Which you might want to use to call in a repair crew for your "lab."

D'oh, forgot my action. Anyways, MOAR RAMPAGING.
[4] Yaaay. You trample someone reading a screen and collapse the "laboratory."

"Sigh, fine"
Type in revolver
[1] HOW ABOUT JUST THE BULLETS?[/fonjt] Not points for guessing what happens next. Respawn?

Climb up the hole using the pickaxe as a moving handhold.
[5] You do so. Quite well.

Type in, "This is beyond rude! Now not only are you ignoring me but you are also mocking me! That is total disrespect! Sir, no... you aren't a gentleman.... Thing, I challenge you to a dual!"
This is a note from the GM. The computer only understands when you're asking for something. Seriously, haven't you divined that from what's happened so far? It pains me to see people throwing away their turns and, watch out for that--never mind.[/font] While reading this, the Nyanfort tramples you. Respawn?
whAt thE HEll iS GOING On HERE? AND WHAT DO YOU WAnT?

Type "disintegrator".
[1] THEY NEVER LEARN, DO THEY? You get shot with a disintigrator beam. Respawn?

GM TURN:
The ShadowBomination looks around, confused.

Comfort zombie, then continue interrogation more kindly. Possibly the weirdest sentence I've typed...well, certainly this week. It's only Tuesday.
This should be in your sigtext.
If you insist.
A quote from me has made it into GWG's sigtext. I consider that the pinnacle of achievement on the RTD forums.
Thanks. That makes TWO subforums I'm surprised to be renowned on!
What's the first one?
Suggestions.

I envy squiddles, they are the only ones that weren't fucked... err... I mean harmed by the gods
The squiddles have been a bit neglected...I might as well fix that.
NO. NO. NO. NO. No one touches the Squiddles but me! Look what happened the last time another god messed with the Squiddles? An abomination! At least spare me one race of my children (further) molestation.
I promise to only help them.
