Ok then GWG, can you explain to me in detail how having a few squads we already have keeping their skills sharp is wasteful of resources and manpower? Has 10ebbor hinted that we are wasting time with a militia?
Why do you think I'm only arguing against spending more time and resources on the militia? An hour a day training or something is fine, making a barracks and stuff for a force that likely won't ever see battle isn't.
Just because you can't fathom how something could be useful now doesn't mean it ISN'T. You keep assuming that if they're not doing anything their skills won't atrophy, which it will, and anyways we need some sort of security/police force and the militia can double as that.
Oh, so the militia is the police? Because you haven't explained a single other use for a ground-based force.
As well, I doubt civilian crews on the railguns would be as effective as military trained crews.
Yes, but artillery is a bit beyond the scope of an average militia...
Well, as to your other question, a space for combat drills is all I'm asking for right now, nothing really complicated(though a dedicated livefire range ight need a few structures, but I'm noy building that atm)
Should be fine. Maybe the structures could be set up later (although if the militiamembers set it up on their own time, I'd be willing to let them have resources to set up post fences or other simple stuff like that).
Would you mind explaining how any conflict we would get into would find a ground-based force useful at all? An artillery-based "militia" doesn't need a live-training place, and I'm not sure a police force does either. Besides, a police force of 10-15% the population is a bit excessive. What is the militia going to be used for?
