This is what fights between the gods will look like.
What is going on.

Just a note; unless Ghaz rules otherwise, my Act made Udil hidden from you lot's prying eyes and senses. No appearing in his head or rumbling beneath his feet, okay? You'd only tormenting him more, the poor child. Can't you see it would be much kinder to leave him to nurture his rage and thirst for vengean... err, love for all things in peace?

Of course I'm sure you can spend an Act to find him, but anyway.
Hopefully my actions resolve before yours.

Speak to Cupiditas "Hello, Devil. My name is Usirian. I believe we can work together nicely."
Greetings! Who the heck are you and do you want to join the Synod?

As well, guys if nothing else think on this: if it turns out we DO need a militia and we don't have one, throiwing one together at that time might be a little late. It's also not like they are going to be drilling 24/7, they can do other things(like they are doing now).
Again, I'm not for disbanding the militia, just not expanding it. (I'm also Pro-Have-Someone-Explain-When-A-Bunch-Of-Infantry-Would-Be-Useful, BTW.)

Edit: You're right, the word militia is probably causing a lot of confusion, since that does imply part-time soldiers. OK, let me lay out what I envisioned for my char, and we'll go from there.
OK, when I made my char, I envisioned him as the head of a small company (~20-30 soldiers) of Colonial Marines assigned to protect the colony(this being a frontier colony and all). In addition to colony protection, the job of a Colonial Marine is to provide recon, a police force, and also act as an engineer corps to help with what needs to be done for the colony to be established. So forget militia and substitute marine company.(of course if 10ebbor is against this I'll do something else).
Okay...seems a bit excessive for a colony under 500, but glad I understand you now.

Now, you were saying that a full-time military is wasteful. I'd like you to really elaborate on why, we don't get anywhere when all I hear is "why do we need it?" without providing reasons we don't(and ignoring the reasons xtank and I DID give as to why we need a small defense force, be it the Marines or a militia)
Aside from their non-combat work (which doesn't need Marine-esque training) and police work, I can see no way that a ground-based military would be useful. Heck, in 2013 it's almost outdated to have infantry, and when anyone who can threaten you can bomb you from orbit (with explosives or a meteorite, doesn't matter much)...

No, no, bite his ankle, then enter his bloodstream as poisonous vapours.

Poison him from the inside out, and it gives him the bends!
I like this plan. Nice and subtle...and deadly.

Mutter at it to leave us alone.
Realize it's a giant monster we're eating the tail of.
Okay, now stab it through the eye.
Run.

Let's try and negotiate a non aggression pact and trade with maher.  One less enemy to deal with, we'd get money and possible converts and with time we might even find him to be a good potential ally against the order empire.  Besides he might be crazy but as I've said before, he seems to keep his word and he has a professional relationship with krait who is our ally.  If we become friendly with him, the only local enemy we would have to deal with would be orcs.

*military voice* Commander Kaian is supporting a preventive attack on incoming forces of EoT. Previous experiences shows that such a manoeuver, using for example a secret super-weapon on an advanced ennemy base, when the ennemy is already preparing to attack, is a good idea. Pearl Harbor is a bad example because the US weren't intending to wage war against japan prior to this raid. A better example would be Operation Demonhood (aka titanghoul paradrop).
I'd prefer to wait until we actually had a weapon that would defeat the Empire. It doesn't have to kill/convert everyone, it just has to convince them that this new god and his allies can deal FAR more damage than it's worth killing them for. Which probably means we need to convince them that we could destroy their entire empire before they could kill us.
It's a delicate, dangerous game to play--if we're not quite strong enough with the initial offensive, they decide to wipe us out NOW because they don't see us as strong enough to surrender to but do see us as enough of a threat to defeat ASAP; if we spend too much power on it, we may be attacked while weakened.

I have a nice little long-term plan for us:

1. Boost relations with human race.
2. Manipulate humans into disparate, yet similar nations.
3. Ensure all nations are founded on cruelty and oppression. Good rule of thumb; the more the leader is like Stalin, the better.
4. Offer our services as a... dumping ground for political prisoners.
5. Never go hungry again!
Sounds like a nice long-term plan...okay, "nice" is a poor word to describe it...

As for the extra hour and a half, if we can squeeze it in we could go invite Serena. She seems amicable enough, and any issue should be discovered immediately if we tell her Krait and Uristiel are already there. Don't be late though; we'll have other chances to woo the maiden. If we can't reasonably make it to her city and back in time do something else.
Sounds fine.

I think it's funny that all the Order Gods are evil. Not just some, like with Chaos. But then, having a diverse set of personalities wouldn't be very orderly, now would it?
And one is named Umbridge.

If we don't send her off to play in ponyville I will be sorely dissapointed.

Ok then GWG, can you explain to me in detail how having a few squads we already have keeping their skills sharp is wasteful of resources and manpower? Has 10ebbor hinted that we are wasting time with a militia?
Why do you think I'm only arguing against spending more time and resources on the militia? An hour a day training or something is fine, making a barracks and stuff for a force that likely won't ever see battle isn't.

Quote
Just because you can't fathom how something could be useful now doesn't mean it ISN'T. You keep assuming that if they're not doing anything their skills won't atrophy, which it will, and anyways we need some sort of security/police force and the militia can double as that.
Oh, so the militia is the police? Because you haven't explained a single other use for a ground-based force.

Quote
As well, I doubt civilian crews on the railguns would be as effective as military trained crews.
Yes, but artillery is a bit beyond the scope of an average militia...

Quote
Well, as to your other question, a space for combat drills is all I'm asking for right now, nothing really complicated(though a dedicated livefire range ight need a few structures, but I'm noy building that atm)
Should be fine. Maybe the structures could be set up later (although if the militiamembers set it up on their own time, I'd be willing to let them have resources to set up post fences or other simple stuff like that).

Would you mind explaining how any conflict we would get into would find a ground-based force useful at all? An artillery-based "militia" doesn't need a live-training place, and I'm not sure a police force does either. Besides, a police force of 10-15% the population is a bit excessive. What is the militia going to be used for?

That even though grumugga is stupid, she's still one fucking powerful god with a metric shitload of orcs at her beck and call? Who we pissed off?

And that orcs only retreat to regroup?
More specific...oh, wait, Serena said that that one orc raid was the fifth this week.

Also, we now have several hundred fire jackets. So...hell yeah.
Yep.

Finally, the alchemist should get some apprentices to help, and help make those bombs. He'll provide the needed chaos stuff to finish them off, but the apprentices should help reduce the workload.
Sounds like a plan. Wanna post it in the IC thread?

DUDE WE HAVE A MILITIA GET OVER IT

Seriously, can we just drop this for now? This is starting to get ridiculous
I'm not arguing against a militia*, I'm arguing against wasting resources and manpower on it.
*Although I am still in the dark on how in the Nine Hells it could be useful...

Quote
Edit: Ok, if you're objecting to separate quarters as wasteful, I can maybe see your point, though I am going to insist on a dedicated drill area. I can have the barracks become the vehicle bay, and we can use the housing we have for now and reinforce it. BUT NO DISBANDING THE MILITIA GOT IT
What do you mean, "drill area"? Just an area to drill or some structures?
