We tell them the truth. We just make the elves sounds more dangerous than they are. (If they note our deception, we can say we were trying to dissuade them from what we felt was a suicide mission, without telling much of a lie.)

I like this idea.

Explore the area without approaching the temple. Near noon, look for some food (probably looking for berries or fish or something), then continue exploration. As dusk nears, look for more food, bathe, pray, and rest.

Oh, and pray before all meals. Prayer is good.

That would make it so much more interesting if the characters didn't rattle off their cards' abilities each episode. Of course, it might be a little more confusing, but it sometimes made no sense at all (assuming stuff from the seasons I watched way back when still apply).
