What percentage of the population would be able to do it, and would they be able to do other firey stuff?

Maybe I could make something like this...not as pretty, barring some sort of free drawing program being found that works better than Paint.

General Discussion / Re: Humans, and eventually a colony on Mars.

2. The Earth can't really support the 7 billions it has now, even assuming you're right...
Yes it can. But with the increased (and increasing) standarts of life, Earth will be able to support less and less humans (plus pollution).
In terms of food alone, it is possible.
Okay, 7 or even probably 15 billion people could survive on Earth. But not at our current standard of living, certainly not with our current environmental practices, not for the long run.

As for the overpopulation. Mars can support exactly 0 people at the moment. Surface areas of sand got a pretty low value, that's why the Sahara is empty right now. Not worth going to Mars.
We've got self-contained greenhouses that can support people in pretty small areas. Put a bunch of those together and you've got food and water. It's a matter of allocating resources. And we're out of space to do so on Earth.

This isn't dead, I've just (almost?) forgotten it. I've actually had this post open and mostly completed for a while...

Here's where you create your empires.

An empire starts with one of a couple kinds of settlements, plus 10 points to spend on special features, and a starting location. Ideally, a brief description would be provided as well.

DF Suggestions / Re: Natural skills related to age
« on: January 12, 2013, 04:34:22 pm »
Just having tags that can activate or deactivate at given ages would be helpful. Maybe [LASTTAG:STARTAGE:X:Y], where LASTTAG is also used for other things and X:Y is the age in years and days that the creature must be before having those tags. ENDAGE would also be useful.

Glad you like it, as i'd hate to kill my kin, unless they were some werecreature or something.  While i'm here, Wyrm, is it planned to be able to tie up GOBLIN prisoners in Fortress mode if they're unconcious on the battlefield?  I enjoy chaining up Masters (ex. Spearmaster, Swordmaster, etc.)  I'm not a pacifist, but I like having prisoners to show my citizens.
I thought I had implied so, yes.

sounds nice, but how would you do that in fortress mode, if possible, with a captured prisoner?
With a square knot, maybe?

Are there farms in the temple or something?

Pray for a miracle to strike these violent heathens down.
None that you can see. Also, do you wish to run or stand still while doing that action? It's best to clarify.
That was a rhetorical question, and hold my ground until they get within striking distance.

DF Suggestions / Re: Homosexuality

A lot of people choose to only draft male dwarves because females tend to have babies when they get married. Dwarves have not developed the subtle concept of a day-care center, nor have goblins developed the subtle concept of "Babies won't hurt you." Therefore, infants of soldier mothers tend to suffer high mortality rates. As with most creatures, dwarves don't like losing babies. Therefore, a female dwarf who is sent into battle has a much higher chance of going insane and chopping other dwarves' important limbs off.

Wait. Why did GWG throw a rock at the tower even though it had already collapsed?
I threw the rock TO collapse it. I thought.

Actually the danger of an hyperrintelligent AI is proportionnal to what it has control over. A whole interstellar ship? Damn dangerous. Nothing besides a humanoid body? Not so much.
Not quite. That's one of the considerations, but there's many others, such as AI design and overrides.

Laksus could probably take most/all of them.
His orders are to rescue the humans, then kill as many orcs as he can before he has to retreat, or all orcs are dead. In that order.
Sounds effective.
