When we have the city built, with wood to spare. I say we build a giant middle finger with a non-flammable skeleton to stop it collapsing, and light it on fire. When all the wood is burnt, we make a new one.
Wasteful of wood and only shows disdain.
Exactly
So there's no upside. Unless you count wasting a vital resource (two, if you count labor) and/or pissing off every visitor imagineable to be positive, of course.

"Um..." Waljan was starting to get nervous, both from the proximity of his Lord and the fact that his self-given explanations were starting to crack. "IbelievetherearesomeraidersattackingthebayareaandifthatisnotofinteresttoyouIamsureIcouldbeofassistanceshouldthevariousotherclansinourregionbeofathreattoyou, Sir." He took a nervous breath.

((Believe it or not, that was pretty hard to type.))

When is it? 15 minutes from now or an hour and 15 or something?

There are quite a few rules which are not fine.  Not paying attention to your players wants/desires, is a perfect example of bad GM-mming.  You may be able to get away with it, but it's inherently bad.  [also various letting RL prejudices get in the way of everything]
Caving in to your players wants and desires is also bad. And, um...I'd forgotten about the prejudice ones.

Build a bazaar on the docks. Gotta get some income up in this bitch.
We already have one of those. What we need is a reason for people to stop and trade.

Ask if any of the townsfolk know any trades. Weavers? Woodcrafters? Potters? Anything?

We should also work on the tavern/inn. Specifically, by seeing if anyone is a good cook or brewer. Such an individual would be useful to have even without guests--the cook could provide a better meal for the citizens*, and the brewer would be an excellent person to have "on call" for festivities.

*I'm imagining a Community Kitchen, where you can donate food, have the chef cook it, and be served. Excellent for helping morale. The cook would, of course, be given a good room to stay in and food of his/her own to eat.

All of these rules are fine and often good, when used well and in moderation. Just like the good tips are bad if used excessively or exaggeratedly.

Sounds like a plan.

And which pun were you referencing, azul or the reference?

"Ah, I see. So we share a camp and share the output? That agreement is acceptable. It would allow a lesser total expenditure of capital and a greater exploitation of economies of scale. Now, was there anything else you wished to discuss, or just mining rights?"

((I'm so killing anyone who keeps making jokes about piecewise's interpretation of my failure.))
"Calm down, sailor. Bein' a bit frisky ain't somethin' to get so riled up about. 'Less yer into that sorta thing."
((That is probably going to haunt you on this thread for at least a few more deaths. In unrelated news,
I'm still not drunk. Nine Divines, WHY AM I NOT DRUNK?!))
((Dearth of alcohol?))
((Dearth?))
((Lack, Absence, Insufficient quantity...))
((Ah, I learned something today. I suppose I'll just make a meat dragon and infuse its soul with alcohol so I can use it as an infinitely replenishing keg. If it's a damn margarita dragon.....))
If we work through this incident with Thrakor (Either by killing him or allying with him) I could make booze cards. Just put it in your mouth and think of it activating for a nice refreshing drink.
Margarita dragons sound cooler.
I was kidding when I wrote that, because we have no idea how to make dragons. Yet. But now it's sounding seriously tempting. Plus I can't get a one and accidentally generate a rampaging booze dragon hell bent on turning me into a pile of carbon sludge via ethanol-fueled flames while I try to drink it.
..... I want to get a one.
There's still words to test, no?

"Something like that could be arranged. However, 'joint' implies that both of us would be able to draw from it. What would you contribute to convince me to allow you to do so? I already have a mining camp--will you send capital or labor there, perchance? Or do you have some other bargain to propose?"

It could be a culture that has maintained from its beginnings a high degree of mutualism.  People don't trade so much as give freely to anyone who needs something, with the expectation that they'll do the same in return later.  Things aren't assigned value in the sense that they are now.  If somebody needs something and you are able to share, you do.
Wow, this is a strange thing. Fun to imagine. Would a free-range adventurer be accepted in this society? Kind of a sinkhole for resources, considering they'll probably die and not give much back. I suppose once you give things to a community they might accept you. Potentially interesting system for a game.
I think he was talking about a culture that wouldn't get currency...but that could be a neat idea for a game...until the player abuses the people, of course...
