Why? They're not easy to wrangle, and they tend not to attack unless provoked. Besides, it's a Minute Mod--an alteration that can be done in 60 seconds or less.

Ah.

I agree, increasing the frequency of semi/megabeasts to the point they form cities at the start of worldgen makes them not "really" semi/megabeasts anymore. Changing their behavior, though, does not. That's really all this suggestion is talking about.

Of course, the DF fanbase can't play any other games that differ from DF in the slightest.
No, but you can't assume they'd like DoD.

Definately not, that is why we need Cameos. Well ok, they do play other games.
No! Only games that are exactly like Dwarf Fortress can be played by us, as we can never go back. A game that is not Dwarf Fortress must never be played by us.

....Are you being sarcastic? If not, thanks.
I've noticed too, and although he might be sarcastic, i'm not.  You're very helpful.
Thank you. I know I can be a bit rude at times; I'm glad that I'm at least helpful.

Well, all that water has to be put in orbit.
You don't understand how much water this is. Since we've been talking about mile-wide station, let us imagine one 1km across, in a ribbon 50 m wide and 5 m high. That's around 3 km of circumpherence, 150 000 sq. m of surface. If you want to have a 5m wall of water all around, you'd need twice that plus some stuff for the 6 m of wall, so around 2*150000*5+2*5*3000*5=1.650.000 cubic meters of water. That's 1.650.000 tons you have to pu in orbit. And why on earth would you need over 1.5 billion liters of water?
You're taking me far too seriously.
...And that number might not be too crazy. Two sources I found suggested water useage of ~60 gallons per person or ~400 gallons per family. Assuming a family of 2 parents and 2 children (to account for households with more children and fewer parents), a very rough but conservative answer of 75 gallons per person per day. That's around 300 liters. Assuming that half of the water is not used for everyday household purposes, and that the water recycling techniques can only recycle 1/10 of the total water supply per day, that's 6,000 liters or so needed in storage per person, so it would...um...never mind. I'm too proud of this math to discard it, darn it!

Well that's the other advantage of just flinging bulk ore into space.  The iron goes into the structure while the waste goes to the radiation shield.
Hm.

But as a short term solution just keep the colony inside the earth's magnetosphere.
Very short-term.

Use TARDIS to go to the future, get healed with future medicine, go back to right before Robama dodges, and place a long, sharp object in his path. Then run on a platform which explains the advantages of a time-travelling president, like being able to predict dangers before they happen.

>Assist if I can be vice-president
Certainly!

Roll To Dodge / The Art of Minimalism V: Derm'd By the Best, Furtaka helped
« on: December 31, 2012, 08:30:28 pm »
Yeah, right.
Welcome to the latest in the The Art of Minimalism series. If you know what this is, proceed; if not, read on.
It's a minimalist RTD with a few restrictions. Try not to go too crazy. Go ahead and be weird, but try not to summon elder evils. That never ends well.

-----

Join at any time.
You are a perfectly normal person. You cannot summon items or transform into stuff. That gets way out of hand. You can do anything an above-average person would, though.
Each time you die, if you die, you will return to the ship.

Starting Inventory:
Clothes of some kind
One common, mundane object you would expect to have in your pocket

-----

You awake. You are in a stateroom on a massive cruise ship, but you're pretty sure your bed is supposed to be on the floor, not the wall.
You wander out of the ship via a large hole in the side (once the lower hull) and onto an island, maybe a mile or two across, covered in grass except for a clayey knoll.

98: Have as LITTLE Combat as you can. Pointless Exposition is more important.

...
Again, inspired by real campaigns. My friend had only 1 fight in the entire campaign. 3 of our party against 20 pirates. One Intimidate Check later, we were facing just 1 pirate. The rest jumped overboard, and all died. (I was the one doing the Intimidate Roll. It was a 20 on one of the glowing D20's they have on Thinkgeek.)

Now wait; I might really enjoy that one.

99. have as much combat as you can. Plot? This is RPGs, players want to see numbers go up and down.

Now wait, other people may enjoy that one.

You have to look at your players.

Some like the discussion etc.,
Others want to play World of Warcraft while talking to friends.
The problem isn't the phenomena, it's the extremes being presented.
