Offer Donnel some of the liquid. (We still have it, right?)
Agreed. Greet him first, though.

Looking at it differently, it is discouraged to take apart others' creations. Not that that helps.
Not that anyone actually listened to that advice and ate all my shit, no i will not let it go!
I understand. And yeah, it kinda failed...

Doubtful. This is Bay12, you know. The only way to can make us bow is duct taping our shins to the ground and hitting us in the back with big sledgehammers for a while.

Depends on the intended setting.
The setting is supposed to be a static medieval world. Think your average fantasy setting.
Okay then. Here's some ideas.
Spoiler: Food Resources (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Metals and Minerals (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Luxuries (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Misc. (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Artificial (click to show/hide)
Hopefully I'm not overestimating your plans here.

Speaking of resources, are resources placed then towns, or are towns placed and then resources assigned to them?
Resources are placed randomly when placing biomes. It is based on the scarcity parameter.
Towns are then placed afterwards, again randomly for now.

The idea is then that towns "gather" whatever resources they are in range of. The towns then get an even share of all the resources. If only one town is in range of a resource, the town gets all the output.
My plan for today is to implement and expand a bit on this system, perhaps even make resources actual entities.
Neat.

General Discussion / Re: Humans, and eventually a colony on Mars.

1 advantage to the rotating space station is that it can move from place to place

not enough energy -- go closer to the sun.
Not enough matter go closer to sources of matter.
Not a big advantage over planetary bases, which have craptons of resources and nice Lagrange points which require minimal adjustment. Put some solar panels out there for Mars, beam the power back, bam! Power crisis solved.
It's an advantage, though.
Beaming back power doesn't work all the time. You'd need to set up relays for when the base is on the other side of the planet. (Because planets rotate around their axis, while the Lagrange point stays where it is.)
Simple. Geosynchronous satellites, beaming power to each other and the surface; or additional power stations at other Lagrange points; or multiple bases receiving power. Okay, none of those are cheap, per se, but they're effective.

Friendly? Well, at times.

...I just had an image of dwarves and cyclopes creative bronze colossi as part of their rivalry.

Speaking of hands, any idea of how to get a new one?

Glad to hear that the turn is being delayed for such great reasons. Congrats to your brother; may he and your sister-in-law-to-be have a happy life.

And we can't have the new year on the Winter Solstice because we don't want to deal with reshuffling months. Just imagine...December 31st is now where December 20th was. Is Halloween on the old October 31st (October 20th) or the new? How about birthdays? Expiration dates on legislation, contracts, etc?

Cartographer.

Anyways, maps open up some interesting idea, like exploration, selling maps, selling bad maps...

Semi- and megabeasts don't really do all they should. Aside from randomly killing people and maybe stealing morsels of food or trinkets smaller than the tips of their toes, they don't do anything. Where are rocs raiding herds of cattle, dragons demanding tribute, hydras lurking in sewers, bronze colossi...okay, they're probably fine the way they are.

The biggest problem with a "society" of semimegabeasts is numbers. There's a couple dozen per world, scattered over race and continent. If more than three or four minotaurs came together, that would be surprising. However, I could easily see them taking over groups of lesser peoples, especially minotaurs. (Minotaurs always struck me as being cunning, regardless of their intelligence. Their inspiration lived in a labyrinth and managed to avoid getting lost as he hunted several Athenian teenagers. As in, people from the city named after the Goddess of Wisdom.) At that point, in larger worlds, some minotaurs might hear of each other and meet up. Imagine a minotaur heading a goblin nation and one reigning over a dwarven kingdom uniting their holdings...
Cyclopes, ettins, and giants could do roughly the same things, of course. I imagine they'd mostly be a bit less effective, though. Cyclopes might be craftsmen more than leaders; ettins would probably argue with themselves, leading to the amusing case of factions following each of the ettin's heads; and giants would be hungry and dumb. (They're big enough to squash minotaurs and easily wrestle the other semimegabeasts to death and are bigger than hydras. They could use a nerf to make them semimegabeasts.)
Ninja'd, of course.

is there anything saying Minotaur's are sociable? Maybe they are not, in just why they are in the maze?
The original Minotaur was one-of-a-kind and imprisoned there. DF minotaurs? Who knows. Maybe they like living in mazes.

Why would Minotaur's want to live with other Minotaur?
Why do humans want to live with other humans? Oh, and the apostrophe is for possessive nouns and contractions only.

Why assumed Minotaurs like wearing amour? Maybe they believe its for the weak races and they dont need it?
They're supposed to be armed and armored to make up for the fact that they're just over 1/40th the size of the other semimegabeasts. Also, they're smarter than said other beasts. Minotaurs aren't realy the "Honor Before Reason" type the way I see them. They're smart enough to realize that horns and size don't mean much against solid steel.

I'll give you the vampire thing, how ever that's ONLY if he decides to make vampires "mindless beast" (in terms of needing blood) or civilized people. Both work, but you need to pick one and stick to it, or divide them in a way that is clear. I.E this one blood line is the "feral" ones, more stronger, but cant control and the other is more civilized.
Why? Why can't there be a middle ground?

DF Suggestions / Re: Being Husked Ends the Game *Spoilers*
« on: December 30, 2012, 01:34:02 pm »
The farthest I would go would be a choice. So the game announces that technically your old self has been erased, but you can still continue. After all, the logic of this relies on what you are.
That sounds good but unnecessary.
Why unnecessary?

The game should change, not end. After all, a being of such power is rarely made by chance...
Certainly change. It already does; you start killing everything instead of going around and killing stuff. There's not a big difference, but once social stuff comes into play your husk is going to be handicapped.
Unless s/he rides around the countryside in a minecart and hits people with another minecart. That's always fun.
