DF Suggestions / Re: Hot springs

Why just elves?
Because elves are the ones with an affinity for magic, and I think some of the ThreeToe stories even mention them having the power to use magic to bend wood and make trees grow together and such. You could make an argument for gypsy humans or people like that making a magic fountain, but it makes less sense to me.
First off, why is an affinity needed to work magic? Second, how are elves the only people who can have an affinity for magic? Third off, how is elven skill with trees related to hot springs? I might be wrong, but I don't think hot springs are made of wood...

Most of the time, plates move a few inches per YEAR. This would mean that, over a 1,050-year worldgen, plates moved under 40 feet. Even at that absurd rate, that one feature would move by maybe half a region tile by the end of worldgen.
Which is why having the terrain move as a result of plate tectonics would be a waste of Toady's time, in my opinion. But it would be cool to have tectonic boundaries at least defined, so you know where there's likely to be more earthquakes and volcanic activity.
Agreed.

DF Suggestions / Re: Slab Lists and Ghost involvement.
« on: December 16, 2012, 11:19:55 am »
Around here, specifically this subforum, it's fine to resurrect old threads. Thanks for searching, though.

Better slash lists are planned. Relatedly, I'd like to be able to select specific slabs for specific dwarves, engrave certain things on slabs, and engrave multiple slabs for a dwarf, slabs for a live dwarf, or slabs for events.

About ghosts: Maybe there could be a happiness score for ghosts, like with live dwarves. Happy and healthy friends and family, a good burial place, or a high-quality memorial hall could increase ghost happiness; corpses left to rot in the sun, burial arrangements beneath what they feel their station is, and the destruction or major alteration of places they liked in life could decrease it. Happy ghosts would fade to the afterlife or be helpful; unhappy ghosts would cause trouble. Helpful ghosts might share knowledge or occasionally join in battles and such; usually, they would just hang around, chatting, giving happy thoughts to people (especially friends and family, but not people they had grudges against).

The problem isn't the concept, it's the speed.

Doesn't happen a lot. Won't happen much without spreading actions out over a few ticks.
It happens all the time. I never stay next to the opponent to let him get free swings at me.
In between your turn and your next one isn't one tick. It's several ticks, with an average creature's speed giving them 10 ticks between turns. That's one in ten, at simplest and probably highest estimates.
Which is exactly what I was saying.

Well, look at that, they delivered a new consort right to our door! How convenient. If we capture the mage, what gift should we use? Maybe Withering Touch? Seriously, you can't have enough wizards.

Short-term, Corruptor's idea is a good one, if it works. As for the mage, put her in a time-loop like we did with Phyros--saves her for conversion if we so choose, and takes her out of the fight quickly using one of our best skills.
Agreed but still only capture her if convenient.  Our primary objective needs to remain survival especially with our unborn child nearby.  Eon manipulation sounds great so long as it does not give away our position any earlier than necessary.
If we time-loop her, we can extract her at our leisure. Why would eon manipulation give away our position? Presence, sure, but they knew that...

Side note: why do we still have beach sand in our pocket?  Also if the spear can turn items into sand maybe later we could turn sand into items.  Or people into sand?
Because the GM never removed it despite us asking him to?
We turned stuff into sand on accident. I'm not sure if we could intentionally duplicate it.

Lol, GWG, good suggestion. Just one little problem - Mage is male
...Somehow I mixed the female warrior with the mage.

I am against any attempts to catch the warrior. If we lucky get her alive =  nice. If not - too many consorts isn't in our best interests anyway.  Our goal is to win the battle
Okay. Fair enough. Warrior consort isn't as good as warrior/mage consort anyhow.

Actually it says "Above+ Yadda yadda yadda" which means that it has the same properties as the tile type listed above.
Ah. My bad.

I've finished Steady's attributes and such. I need skills for those of you who haven't sent me them. Give me skills to prioritize and I'll do the rest; tell me how many points to invest in various skills and I'll do that. Either or.

I wish I could reach him in time, but he's running out of time. If someone stabilizes him, maybe I could finish him off.
Who's Poison Ivy? Other than a Batman villain, of course...

You've collected various foods and plants:

Whispervine- A light brown-grey root that grows on cliffsides. You know nothing about it.
Blue Fern- A large fern with a strange blue coloration. It gave off a sweet scent, and you saw some of the rabbits munch it.
Spear-stalk- A large, green plant that grows straight and tall. You've heard of it being consumable, but otherwise, you don't know anything about it.

Put on the powered armor.
You can try, but Vorthon might not agree...

Any reason the warrior only moved one space? According to the side bar, those green spaces don't impede movement.

How long does it last?

Also, for Kai's sake, here's a summary of what we did after you left:
Left the dungeon. Returned to town. Town was burning. Killed monsters burning town. Talked with a High Priest of Hextor. Got exposition. High Priest aged to death. Leveled up.

Did I miss anything?

Crap.
Abandon fortress.
Flee to a nearby human town.
Retire.
Exit, returning to the real world, taking the pick and some adamantine with us of possible.
Incorporate pick and adamantine into chainsaw launcher.
Incite demonic civil war.
