Sure, create a miner too. A side project, put warships above the Green Dwarf or whatever we call it.
When I talk about survival, its more about not getting into a position of getting killed.
Again, don't worry about the miner overmuch until we have mines. And that requires the pirates to be defeated.

Out of curiosity, is a coup d'etat completely out of the question?
For now, yes.
Without good reason, I'd veto it most likely.

>Sue Greatwyrm for using the concept of "speed" in his game. Demand It be removed or I'll ban his game.
>Accelerate in the direction of work to 4 miles a turn.
Instead use "Agility" and "Movement," to save on legal costs.

Also, since I'm at work now, do I win?
1. GOOD ENOUGH FOR MR. MCSPEEDY
2. Because you are 20 miles away. And Cassandra and her run of luck got her to work, and now shes bored.
The "20 miles away" thing seems to be a continuity issue. I was fired, then started a new business.

Right, Spinal?
You're away from the major /only workplace until a few moments ago.
I got fired and a price was put in my head!
I'm at work, wasn't that the goal?

Respawn with a flamethrower with infinite fuel.
[4] You respawn with a flame-throwing pistol. With infinite ammunition.

Headshot Zombie nearest Furtuka.
[3+1] Twang, headshot.

Await shipment of goblinite. Prepare traps, then process.
[5] The goblins show up, deliver a load of goblinite, and vanish.

Respawn, thinking of a battleaxe.
[6] You have a state-of-the-art AI-enabled robo-axe, which [5v2] chops your head off. Respawn?

Grab the new Doomblade corpse and use it to beat the zombies to death
Which one? The headless one? [4v3] You beat a zombie's head in.

GM Turn:
The rifle [5] clears its jam.
The T. rex eats the Xantalos-Thing.
The elemental hops out and melds through the floor, not to be seen again.
The miniature marines [5v2] shoot everyone. It hurts.
The zombies go for misko and Furtaka. [5v1,4v2] Both are attacked, and misko actually shoves his hand into a zombie's mouth on what may be presumed to be accident.

Please note, the underlined rule about spawn items needing to fit in a pocket will now be enforced.

We don't have godlike charisma, and brainwashing people is -extremely- hard to do. It's also likely to backfire.

When I said "LCS style" early in the thread, I implied "attain loyal subworks to avoid getting our hands dirty". This excludes the videogame element of being the reeincarnation of Che Guevera, Adolf Hitler, Naploeon, And Karl Marx rolled into one in terms of charismatic abiltiy. That just dosen't happen.
You forgot one.
Sorry, I'm just that anal this time of the day.
Wait, what would make us Napoleonic? Height or a lack of Hitler's strategic brilliance? Incidentally, bazinga on the last phrase.

So yeah, pretty damn similar.
1. Napoleon is well-known for being height-conscious. Who cares if he was actually short? I was halfway joking there, anyway.
2. Napoleon was more successful before Russia, and never said his artillery could only be used by his personal command.

Yeah.  It sounds really fucking counter-intuitive, but it is much easier to blow a military base the hell up than it is to steal a shit-ton of gold from it.  So much fucking easier.
Aside from the fact that destroying a military base provokes more response than robbing it and that 4.5 kilotons of gold is really shiny, there's no benefit to robbing Ft. Knox dry. An argument could be made for robbing some of Knox, especially if we didn't have a lot of gold.
Of course, you would need a LOT of gold to make a profit on this...and a LOT of explosives to destroy the gold in Knox.

But let's try to get back on-topic...where were we when we left off?

Well, I think Ursula should be on her own for the first little bit...at least until the elder decides she's a hero.

DF Suggestions / Re: New Fortress Nobel - Magician
« on: December 10, 2012, 09:50:55 pm »
Why exactly do fortress dwarves need magic, and why would they consider it to be worthwhile to dabble in when they have steel, adamantine, and magma? It seems equivalent to suggesting that modern armies need bows and spears to go along with their tanks and artillery.
Magic is like a Swiss Army Knife that includes computer, lockpick, and bazooka attachments. It's absurd to say that steel and magma invalidate magic. Players are already using captured necromancers to all sorts of ends; imagine if magic was more versatile and controllable. Adamantine doesn't invalidate magic wither, but it's unheard of by dwarves before your fortress (in theory) and so deserves separate mention.

And could possibly cause tantrum spiral easily if one were to go crazy batshit, which seems highly common amongst wizards etc
...This is supposed to be a downside?

Oh you know you would like to see that.
I most certainly do.
Take out the randomness for randomness's sake and sure, me too.

DF Suggestions / Re: Exotic weapons in fortress mode
« on: December 10, 2012, 09:42:07 pm »
Is it ridiculous to think the fortress-dwarves are too inebritated to take a look at imported weapons and try to copy it? They are creatures of industry, and it doesn't seem totally unrealistic.
Maybe, but it's not easy for a society to pick up new techniques, and more importantly...why? Most of the exotic weapons are either modifications of dwarven weapons (mauls, pikes), or else not terribly useful for combat in theory (large daggers, whips).

It would be nice if we could just make any weapon rather than being limited.
Again, societal limits and why would dwarves make them?

I suppose limiting skill gain to X per month could work. Maybe also reduce XP from being hit with traps?

this world doen't run on video-game logic. Ships will have point defense cannons.
...Which probably work much better when they're shooting at things trying to hit them than drones flying about further out.

That's more or less what the Hiram-I's I suggested are.
Hirmam-Who?

Oh.  The ship.  Yeah, that's what I mean, but I'm thinking the pirate's bases are far enough from the sun that plastics don't melt, right?  So, why not make some drones out of plastics and glass?  They won't take many hits, but they don't need to if we have cheap drones spilling out every one of our cavities.
And plastic. Plastic is a wide-ranging material group. And a little iron so railguns work.

we dont know if we have cheap ceramics. we have plastic, glass and thats about it. that we know of.
And stone.
That has to have a reason behind it. They wouldn't have mentioned it otherwise, right?
