1. Dwarf Fortress does mean the fortress is made of dwarves. Guess what? The golems are also dwarven.
2. Um, rare minerals, several units of metal (surely enough to outfit a soldier with armor and weapon of the same material), lots of time, and sentient lives. Not too bad,  if it's actually like you claimed.. Now throw in a good chance of the golem turning, unless you have a high-skill golemmaker (gained by making lots of golems, and therefore lots of rampages)...not really worth considering.
3. Yes, there's benifets. However, the arms and armor wouldn't actually be that much better than an axelord armed and armored with the stuff you could have smithed instead of the golem frame. Less vulnerabilities is the biggest upside, but when you consider the chance of that same golem rampaging through your fortress and killing your dwarves (less trained, armored, and possibly numerous than those goblins...) And your note about axelords taking out sieges on their own only further affirms my point. If conventional militias do fine and can't turn, why bother with golems at all?
4. Don't strawman me. I think that golem making should have costs relative to its benefits. Your proposed system does not.

More like, since a path to hell has been breached from the surface, the demons now have a route out through which to invade other surface settlements.  The army would have to take the site back to more or less turn off the hell valve.
That's what I meant. Although now that I think about it, what's to stop demons from going through the caverns?

Statues in Dwarf Fortress seem to be the classic greco-roman design. They're big, heavy and cumbersome. It doesn't make sense for a trader to drag these things from their homelands when they can just trade in regular trade goods like figurines.

Statues should have to be a custom order from an artist of that region. Custom made statues from other lands should be expensive to both make and import but they should be quite favourable among your population.
This is Dwarf Fortress. We don't need logic here.
I hate when people say that.
The game's still in alpha, guys. Anything you cite is probably a bug or underimplemented feature.

Neat idea. Presumably, this would be based on the AT_PEACE_WITH_NATURE tag.
I'm not sure if it would be sad or hilarious if they brought chinchilla guards.
In one of my older forts, I trained a horde of war chinchillas. They absolutely massacred anything that stood in their path. Unfortunately, that included my FPS.
These war chinchillas wouldn't be swarms, they'd be single, plucky, comic-relief sidekicks. Like Scrappy Doo, I guess.

Difference here is, with a title like "Should Dwarves Have Sexual Orientations," people on both sides are going to show up. People who don't like MLP are unlikely to come into a MLP thread to just say that they don't like the ponies, but a thread like this is different because it encourages both sides to share their thoughts. Indeed, the neg side might have stronger reasons than aff, like moral or religious considerations, which could shift the balance the other way.
I'm not saying the thread's not biased, I'm saying we shouldn't assume bias.
