Forum Games and Roleplaying / Re: The Last Night Troll

So, here's the plan: Get Foghorn to tell us where Alice is. Invite Alice to stay with us at our ranch while she recovers. Then, once Alice is safe and settled, we go on a day trip to the tower to get the dwarf whatever he needs for his artifact. Artifact in hand, we abduct Clairia.
The first step is the most important and least certain.

You guys seem to forget that unconverted Alice can do whatever she want and I suspect that it's quite possible that she will run away\plot a revenge against her father. Especially if left alone

Also, I'd not spend too much time in preparations, or Vindel may marry Caira

Also I don't understand why to not go to the tower now.

Also, I see no real reason to revenge Vindel, he treated us quite nicely after we attempted to kill him. Besides doing something bad to his love is a much better revenge
We're saving the girl who already owes her life to us, a possible consideration but if we rush and screw up we'll lose more time, we don't know where Alice is, he kinda enslaved us...hm, you gave me an idea. Could we use that enslaving gift on Caira?

Little problem... To release Alice we need to learn where we can find Alice

Also if we do bring birds with us to the tower, why not do it know? I'd rather not destroy food supply in that way
Gwen is going for the birds while we ask Foghorn about Alice. He just said that we can have her, so he shouldn't object to us letter her out of the torture machine.
You're implying that there are circumstances people would not want to be rescued from torture machines...

No.
...has a town hall, a pub, a general store, a small schoolhouse, a small tech support business, a bank, and a post office...
No library. It's a very small town.
Vale, a small town of about 50 people.

You start to drink yourself drunk, but are interrupted...

-----

You find yourself back in the "commercial" district. There's the buildings, the dog, the twins. Almost everything's like it was when you first made it here. Weird.

Work on finding a book on healing magic.

"I'll take a Sandwich of the Day, and a beer, too."
"Sure thing," says Jim, filling a glass with beer. "The sandwich should be ready in about five minutes. With tax, that's $4.28."
You pay Jim with a nice, crisp five-dollar bill you have in your wallet, get change, and sip your beer.

Nothing, he's suffering from severe trauma of the central nervous system.

What would Urist do if this was also a reanimating biome?

Attack the bandit in front of me!
Cut off his head if possible; slash across the chest if not.

HOLY SHIT IT'S SO CHEAP.
((OOC note, I just made the prices up. Don't worry about them.))
Can't you read?
...And who said it was set in the 21st century?

-----

"Maybe. I'm interested in hearing what the specials are."
Jim shrugs. "We had some pizzas delivered from town, two-fifty a slice, but that's gone by now. The sandwich of the day is MArtha's--my wife's--variation on Monte Cristos. Have you decided or do you want a minute?"

DF Suggestions / Re: Making coins useful in trade
« on: November 29, 2012, 11:19:51 pm »
Coins are just slugs of metal, with no more value than the material they're crafted from; they're not actually useful for anything.  They should barter for less than goods, as if you were trading scrap copper (or whatever metal) that has to be melted down, purified and worked before you can do anything good with it.
By that logic, anything without a good, practical use is also worthless except for scrap.

Quote
Currency allows you to easily transfer and redeem debts in a non-specific way, but only if everyone involved recognizes the value and nature of the debt, and the trading tokens.

I'm thinking coins should barter for significantly less than their value (because they have no inherent use) under normal circumstances, but within your own civilization (assuming a working economy), and with allied civilizations that maintain trade agreements with yours, they should barter at a higher value because of their attractive fungibility.  Merchants would take their profit cut either way.
I think that "within your own civ" was implied. If not...well, many non-American nations accept the American dollar; perhaps human or elven nations would accept coins from a powerful dwarven nation, or at least one they regularly trade with. Currency from their own nation would be preferred, of course, but dwarven coins would be worth more than mere "slugs of metal."

DF Modding / Re: Custom creature and webs
« on: November 29, 2012, 11:14:56 pm »
Interesting fact:  carnivorous vermin will kill other vermin.  I keep finding forbidden vermin remains near colonies and hives.
Could this be due to the webs? Webs kill most vermin which walk on/fly into them.

...Why are we already planning on how to use the bodies that we haven't even found yet to accessorize with? Shouldn't we find bodies (or a psychiatrist) first?

Is it just me, or did they just have a picture of a DF world?
They should so have had a screensaverey thing of a world being created, a fortress being built, etc, all abbreviated and on a loop.
...I now want a Dwarf Fortress screensaver like that.

DF General Discussion / Re: Do the Gods Exist Or Are They an In-game Lie?
« on: November 29, 2012, 11:05:57 pm »
HERECY! I like to think that Armok is the "creator god" who shapes new worlds, watches them burn and fill with silk socks, then creates another and another and another... Armok has no interest in contacting mortal beings personally, they're just pawns who screw around for his/her/it's amusement.
Armok doesn't exist, in-game. He's named after a variable in an older game Toady worked on (arm_ok).

Unique demon, most likely. I have never heard of any glitch causing the actual deities to manifest. Mortals will, actually, worship mega/semi-megabeasts and titans as gods, maybe some others as well, but they're also not the real deal.
Nope, definitely a real god. As I said, it was a very unique and lucky glitch that I've never been able to reproduce. Here, I have proof:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

There were also a few other historic figures that got resurrected into new bodies, like a long-dead kobold becoming a minotaur with kobold egg yolk for blood.

I still have the save somewhere, though sadly I think I killed most of the special glitched creatures before I realized what was going on.
Sounds like a demon who fooled the dwarves into thinking it was a god. I haven't heard of it happening to dwarves in vanilla, are you playing with mods?
It still seems more probable than the game glitching to let a completely nonexistent entity living only in Legends and engravings kill something and be killed by another without crashing.
