Yes, but we were already suspicious of him.

Alright, I have a recruit and a prisoner, who I am trying to turn into a recruit. More importantly, I survived going to the coffee stand despite getting into a fight. I have another recruit soliciting donations and stole something without learning what it is.

...Okay, new problem. The police are raiding me because I kidnapped someone who apparently mattered. Advice?

You don't go picking up stuff where people can see you doing it?
Gee, thanks...I fugured that out the first time.

Essentially, go in, do some shit, go out. Quickly, preferably before the conservatives are alarmed.
Alright, I'll see how this goes.

He wasn't the first, and it doesn't really matter. The point is, it works.

Meh, why not. It's better than it sounded.

I've tried LCS twice. First time, I headed to some industrial place and was grabbing goods and chatting indiscriminately. I had convinced a janitor to come meet me later. However, when I grabbed some goods in the same square as some people, they turned against me and beat me to a pulp.

Second time, I visited the genetics lab. After freeing some animals, convincing them that I was a conservative (wait, genetic freaks are conservatives?), and fast-talking my way out of trouble, I found a secretary in a hallway who beat me almost to death. I ran out, convinced a janitor to come meet with me the next day, ran into an eminent scientist and some other conservative, failed to fast-talk the scientist, and got the rest of my excrement beaten out of me.

...So, how do I avoid dying the first day?

A sort of pudding.

One dimple cup seed, dwarven wine, dwarven wine, dwarven rum.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: A Fortress Divided

Don't do it. A fortress divided cannot stand.

Joke aside, do it. Segregate by age, profession, and gender; give each profession a level, each decade of age a section of the level, and each gender half of the section. Each section will contain enough workshops, stockpiles, bedrooms, and personal dining quarters for everyone in the profession. Haulers are the only exception; they travel everywhere they like, but have to sleep in a communal dormitory and serve in the militia.

Also, post the results when you're done.

They should siege.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Best Anti-Undead Melee Weapon?
« on: November 23, 2012, 09:34:51 am »
Chopping off limbs isn't always bad. I'd imagine that a swarm of undead hands and heads would be less frightening than a slightly smaller swarm of whole zombies.
This is especially true against hooved zombies, who can't kick without their precious feet.

Miners are uniformly cursed with one of the deadliest weapons in the game and pretty much the highest skill with using them that any dwarf will have with any weapon.
It happens.

General Discussion / Re: Bitcoins, e-currency or just fancy crap?
« on: November 23, 2012, 09:22:58 am »
To reply to the question posted in the title and the OP:
Bitcoins are as legitimate as you and the other person want them to be. Currencies are worth much less than what you buy with them; a 100-dollar-bill only has value because (almost) everyone in America (and many foreigners) have agreed that they will give you a certain amount of goods or services in exchange for those $100, because they expect that someone with something they want will be willing to accept those $100 for something they want.
Bitcoins are the same way. They're worth something if and because people decide they are.
