Not really.
He's strong but he has no effective weapons or armor and very low numbers.
If we fought on equal numbers he'd win hands down in a straight fight but he isn't overwhelmingly strong.

What equipment do I begin with Rhyme?

I have 750 men and I'm gonna split them up as 50 snipers, 100 heavy gunners, 600 infantry.

Do I begin with them fully armed to match my tech levels?
I've got 50ish guys, I'm not a superpower. I'm just great at psionics.
I can't imagine that they could mind-control more than one or two at once, so that's 75 or so of your soldiers...nine non-mind-controlled for every mind-controlled, and that's if they don't shoot the psions first.
I'm a scalpel, not a sledgehammer.

I thought that might mess up immersion, but sure, I'll do that.

Can anyone think of mutations they want statted out while we wait for the others?

DF General Discussion / Re: What Would Urist Do?
« on: November 17, 2012, 11:22:24 am »
Nothing, he needs another dwarf to bring him to a bed so he can rest.

What would Urist do with psychic powers that didn't work on elves or magma?

I know. I have. That stuff was stuff in the quoted post which has been discussed. I'm now a great wyrm gold dragon who gives optional quests, maybe does some trading (25 red dragon fangs->Ice Claw [pick or something which deals ice damage]; 2,500 berries->Amuletof Draconic Life [multiuse healing item]; crazy stuff like that) who also shows up in various shape shifted forms at random points, always subtley noticeable by the golden eyes.

Anyways, just finished reading the thread...sad...

In case being in the sane military wasn't enough...

I vote let them run and then escape. Somehow...

Sure, although I'm pretty sure we're all on the same side to begin with...

I fiddled with the numbers of my faction. Space Travel 6 should be enough for at least one large (although probably unarmed) FTL ship. I could help.

I'd like an NPC, probably, but I need to figure more out about what's going on before going into more detail.
Just caught up to here by skimming the last dozen pages or so!
Anyways...I guess I could take a PC. I'd be the buffer/debuffer. My main "attack" would be something like "Sanespeak," and would cause a minor debuff to friends and a major debuff to enemies. I would also have a firey breath (being a gold dragon), maybe some spells, etc.
Or maybe I'd be the quest-giving NPC. Either way, I'd like to be a gold dragon.
Just got here despite reading the past several pages in-depth.

I removed 1/3 of my population.
1000 soldiers.
And reduced the infrastructure a bit.
I still have all the buildings and stuff but I have less of them now.

But why make a person with larger numbers weaker?
Anybody can choose to have large numbers if they want to they just decided not to.
Keep the setting in mind. You're landing on an alien planet after the ship was heavily damaged. Besides, game balance.

At the moment, you outgun the militaries of all players put together, have a stronger industrial base than all of them, you have more food, more rations, scientific equipment better than most factions. Even if all players turned their full force against you, it's unlikely they'd be able to defeat you.
Remember my attempt at Feudalism, mesor? There were people who tried to have everything and one saner player who wasn't happy about it:-)

Fly to Earth, try not to crash.

42792
Disadvantage: Awesome.

42793
Hah somebody has to provide balance and stability to the rest of you and we all know doing it diplomatically ain't gonna fly for long.
So I'll just enforce it with a couple dozens choppers and some tanks :).
GreatWyrmGold

Still think I made a strong civ? ^) Compare with what mesor and weirdsound want... I'll get destroyed fast :)
And my only hope is to get support from one of these superpowers. Or to get a big tech buff, which I think I'll go do.

DF Suggestions / Re: Corkscrews as mechanized transport devices

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Screw-propelled_vehicle

:D

It seems like good idea for swamps or snowy area, though! Whenever there're vehicles implemented.
Not good for much else, though...
#7 is a pretty good explainer of big problems with corkscrew-based vehicles.

...Did it at least have a convertible top?
How did you guess. They included a plastic top to keep out the rain.
Lucky, I guess.
Not the craziest Russian military vehicle I've heard of. Right below the corkscrew tank in the above link is another Russian tank which had two huge wheels that made great targets and two really puny wheels. Why?

How's HT?
